Garden Photos of '09.....#23

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

It's hard to tell but this a web that Sam made to attract the hummers. It has caught the falling Mayday blossoms and looks like a big flower from the distance. Sam is a very creative spider.

'Happy Generation' from the outside. Only in their second year so I can't give it a thumbs up yet but I'm really hoping this one doesn't poop out.

Ta for now. Out to the greenhouse to pot up tomato babys before it gets 150F in there and more planting out, planting out, planting out.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Thank you, Pixie. Don't have it's name handy. It's growing in total shade under Maples.

Daisygrll, that Climbing Night Owl color is spectacular.

Dahlianut, I really like that Stolwik Gold.

GE, unless the color is really skewed by your camera, I don't think the Hosta you're trying to ID is Sum & Substance. S & S is a very light bright spring green, bordering on Chartreuse, with fairly thin shiney leaves. The color of yours seemed to look more like this Bressingham Blue.

I had to move this Sum & Substance last fall as it was getting too much wind and the leaves were ripping. Now that my neighbor put up that white fence, I may have to move it again.

Flowergen !
I have that orchid Lamium,Its a "goer" and will sprout up anywhere. Just scraped some away so I could put Black Barlow in.
Stormy!
You are right about Sum and Sub my hosta is lower and more spreading and the leaves are bluer, Ive had about 4 possible id's. Big Mama for 1 . Yours looks close.
This was a new transplant last year so the leaves were tall I just figured it was Blue A. Since the person who sent it w/BlueA's doesnt have Sum and Sub ,my plant is surelikely to be something else.
The neighboe miss id'd. This is how names cant be trusted.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

GE, I would post it on the Hosta Forum. Those folks are really good at ID. They even count the vein pairs, something my eyes blur at trying even in the garden.

It could also be this Seibold Elegans, blue and lower growing, and another biggie. Look at that piggy bird. He ate the entire feeder full, chasing away all other comers!

You have the winner in Bressingham Blue.
I googled and saw several versions including 1 that looked like Big Daddywith cupped leaves. I found one that was names BlessBlu that looks like mind.
Here is tha comparison with a pix I just took.
Who is Bressingham anyway, the name is on all sorth of plants.

If you've never smelled a Laburnum tree flower, you're missing out! Also called Golden Chain tree, it's a member of the pea family. They grow up to 20-25 feet, but mine is only about 6 feet so far. It smells utterly heavenly!

I saw a Golden Chain tree that was 50 years old and I'm here to say it was magnificent.
