Coffee Break #12 - Remember those who sacrificed!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That was cool, hate to be driving into it though.

FYI....need to clean fingernails after working in the garden?
if you've scrubbed them and they still look dirty, soak them in lemon juice for a few seconds(yes seconds!) Amazing!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I did happen to be in the city one time on one of the two dates it occurs.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Was it as impressive as it looks, Victor?

Jen - great tip on the lemon juice! I think we must all have that problem!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - pretty cool.

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

I listen to WCBS from New York all the time, I can't believe they didn't mention it! Those are cool pics, I get the feeling of a little sniffiness from the BBC reporter, though! Heee.

Jen, that's quite a fright, I hope there's nothing wrong in general with your breakers.

Robindog, that's cool to see so much wildlife in a short time span! I'd love to live up in Litchfield county, but let's face....there's few jobs. Can't get thea from hea!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Love CBS!

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

Can't live without it!

Thomaston, CT

Litchfield County is quiet---Goshen, where our son lives, is tooo cooold for me---it's always 5 degrees cooler there---but he commutes daily to Cheshire, so the peace & quiet are good for him---but with 3 kids four and under, don't know how much peace he gets! And the blueberry farm he lives on will be open to the public for picking this year!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Cool! I love the NE and NW hills of CT! I used to live on the Willington/Ashford line. I really miss it! I am just finishing up the blueberries I picked last year--They were soooooo good!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I know where Cheshire is! I grew up there till the age of 11.

Happy Anniversary to me! DH and I are celebrating 11 years. Going out for dinner but it's a surprise. Worked and relaxed all day in the garden.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Congrats, Deb!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Although it is a pleasant breezy day, it's quite warm in the sun trying to get more things planted. Needed to give the poor feet a break for a minute. Too hot for Java. A soda will do. If people would stop dropping by my garden, I'd get a lot more done. Four neighbors visited today!
My grandmother was born in Ireland and whenever her feet hurt, she'd say "Oh me dogs is barkin"!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Congrats, Debilu!!! Enjoy the dinner.

Then mine are saying 'woof, woof' and my back is protesting. I dug up some sod and enlarged a bed a bit. DH went to his school's graduation and then a party, so I wanted to surprise him by having it all done. I did get my son around the corner to help me double dig though, but 'MUM is the word'. Mom and I did take-out from Applebee's. We shared a dinner. Now it's off for a shower - after I check a few threads here.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Had my final hot tub of the season with the kids. Will drain it tomorrow. Refill in late September.

Thomaston, CT

Best wishes, Debi----hope the dinner is yummy! My niece Laurie, whose parents celebrated their 50th today, was asking about you & Jo Ann---she'll get me to Gro-More for the peaches!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My parents will be celebrating their 50th in a couple of weeks!

We had a very nice dinner at the Conesus Inn on Conesus Lake. They're known for prime rib but we both had seafood. Started with a cream of crab and asparagus soup which was outstanding. Between the 2 of us we had crab legs, crab cake, shrimp, halibut and haddock. Then chocolate decadence for dessert. Haven't eaten so much in a long time. We watched the sun set over the lake, it was a good time.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

WOOHOO!! Sounds divine.

Anniversaries, birthdays, ... so many special days my friends here on DG had this week. I've been away from the internet intentionally, because I had a lot of housework and paperwork to catch up on. I kinda disciplined myself. "No. You simply can't go and play with your friends until all of your chores are done". Darn it all! I can be so hard on myself sometimes!

But, if I could just sneak in one more Memorial Day photo? This one made our local TV station's scroll. It's my granddaughter, Taelar, pausing to read the gravestone of a veteran. She was very impressed this year with the true meaning of Memorial Day, or Decoration Day, as it was once called. She joined the other children of the town when they all went to the cemetery to place flowers.

I got the greatest tool for my garden in the mail a coulpe of weeks ago. We had an apron swap on another thread, and here it is (with my tools in it) Now I don't lose my tools as I go! Wanted to share.

Great idea, I'm always forgetting where I left my trowel.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

My biggest thing is to remember to put them back! I'm getting better at it.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I was thinking to myself the other day that I need an apron for the garden. I spend way to much time getting things together.

Apron wouldnt help, I keep forgetting where I left the shovel...

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

lol...yep apron would NOT help, maybe a backpack?

Maybe just buy a shovel for the veggie garden and each flower bed?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sherrie, I have several but like one better than the rest. I'll hunt all over the yard for the ONE shovel.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I read a suggestion somewhere to spray paint or put colorful tape on the handles of your garden tools so they are easy to spot.

Hear ya - do the same thing here. I have a 3-1/2 foot shovel. Small and just my size. I can dig a hole just to plant about anything.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

I always wear a similar, but not so nice apron in the garden. It saves me countless walking and searching. Since menopause killed my memory brain cells, I need all the help I can get!! The pockets hold ties, marker, cell phone, chapstick, pruners, scissors, gloves, camera and dandelion digger. Yes, I have tried to spray paint the tool handles in vivid colors. I try to buy all garden items in vivid colors.

Hello all!
Was away for while.
Double congratulations Deb!

It stopped raining!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hey Dave.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Hi!

Missed the Memorial day stories. I have a few WWII connections. My Dad served in Italy & Germany toward the end. His brother was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and went from 200lbs to 96lbs by the time he was liberated.
A maternal uncle was at both D-Day & the Battle of the Bulge (and later served in Korea). He never spoke a word of any of it. His brother died at Anzio.

It is hard to conceive of what they, and all our soldiers in harm's way must face.

Look at these new shoes! I want them! edited wrong link
