Good Girl Betty..Glad you are checking with Dr..
Hope it is only minor "whatever"

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you...well our long weekend is behind us and yours is still in the planning...

As I mentioned when I arrived home on Friday aft. I worked out in the garden weeding, came in, headaching mega time, decided to lay down, couldn't watch t.v. because of my vision being blurry, layed down and rested..nauseated so went to bed..woke up during the night not feeling the best so quietly I tried to figure things out, didn't want to call 911, not sick enough to do that, then alternative would be to call a 'cab' and by the time I concentrated long enough as to how I would go to emerge I fell asleep..lol

Saturday we had torrential rains till almost 4pm..it was lay on the couch and watch t.v. - not sure if Greg called Cathy to sit with me but she spent about 4 hrs. at the house... Greg was involved in doing a stone patio..planning Melanie's 40th birthday so wants they yard tip top shape...at 4pm I had to give myself a nudge to go to Mike's 60th birthday party..sun was not out but no rain..heaven sent for sure..Ann had about 60 people, mostly family..I could not get over the size of Mike's arm, looked raw and painful..all were trying to avoid mentioning cancer as per Ann's request..another couple friends that Roger and I had were there...omg what a shock..Chuck who was the life of the party who told jokes non stop and his wife Doreen and he would play instruments and sing, well Chuck found himself a corner and slept most of the time..he's lost about 100 lbs. - just bones...he had a heart operation a few years ago, but I think he has something far worse this time...the party was enjoyable, good eats and nice friends..omg they even had a friend who is similar in age to me, kind of paired up..he was sweetheart..even ran into him yesterday and had some laughs on the bike trail...

Sunday, the wind was up, Greg/Kyle came over to finish the patio, then cemented in the 4x4 for birdhouse cafe...then the rest of the day was on the couch resting...

Monday, finally a day of sunshine without the wind...walked the gardens, did a bit of weeding..about noon, Kyle dropped in and wanted me to go for a bike ride, said we'd do just a bit so I'd be prepared for his 'bike-a-thon-cure for cancer' June 7th..I told him likely I'd just go a mile or so and he was fine with that, after all it's been years since I've been out...so off we went, OMG I did the entire trail ride and more...must have done 20kl...but, we sat at the parket's they have on the trail system, ran into people we knew either skateboarding or walking, stopped at the hot dog stand, Kyle brought $$$ with him so we ate and had a pop and went past my home to Ann/Mike's to say 'hi'..think the stress of worrying about Mike finally hit Ann, she wasn't feeling the best so we sat outside and gabbed while Mike worked on his boat..I even got a laugh or two out of him..he's just soooo quiet..then on our way out, Ray (gentleman that was at the party was crossing the bike trail coming home from shopping, stopped and gabbed for him for a few sec then both Kyle and I took on different paths, he home as he had to pack for his school trip to Ottawa (left at 6am today) and I home to rest...

Couldn't believe the local channel had NCIS shows one right after the other, so covered with a warm blanket I watched t.v. till 10pm and off to bed I went and there was my long weekend..hope yours is more thrilling

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Well I got part of my back yard seeded, and it looks like things are coming up. I still have to get my herb garden set up and seed/plant the house side, it get almost no rain, and the shady area, but it's a start.

I'm trying to quit smoking today, so I don't know how much I'll be on. When I've tried in the past I've had a couple different reactions, one of which was sleeping all day except when I was at work and eating. I'm also going to try to do things that I've found myself doing for over three hours without noticing. But, I'll try to pop on and let you know how it's going.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are all so sweet...just got on-line...

I just couldn't believe it, it was Dr.Jilesen's day off (office work only) and she got me in..got there 5 minutes late and he was sitting waiting for me..oh/oh...

Said my blood pressure was high (never in 34 years of being his patient has it ever been high)...he DID remind me though that I'm not the young woman that first came into his office and said without asking he knows I've been doing the 'go/go/go dance'...yep, that's me..lol...he has me pegged...

Anyway he gave me a sheet for blood work, will try to be at their office at 8:30 tomorrow morning...making a cat scan booking, not sure how long that will take, then he reminded me that I should have a mamogram, I won't get excited about that because his secretary told me they are booking late December...imagine...

He was concerned though with the tingling of fingers and vision..although he said that because at least 2 or 3 times a month I'd have to get needles to put me out because of migraines that with age they might lessen and react differently..but too many 'could be-s' said we'd start with these tests first...

Came home and Cathy was next door at the variety store..came over to tell me that my brother Bernie was here today, did some work and told her to let me know my Aunt had fallen this morning...so, rather than take the car I decided to take my bike and ride the 5kl. one way (omg 10kl more on the bike) and see how she was doing...

She's almost 80 and weights 78 lbs. just miniature..she went this morning on her walk with the dog and was up the road when a man came running to tell her what he thought was a rabbid skunk was running the road, guess it startled her, she turned and fell..omg you should see her arm/leg..can't move..wanted to take her to the hospital for x-rays..well we know who I take after, nope wouldn't go so I walked the dog, got her something to drink and treats and she said she'd call if she needed me...

Took a photo in her yard..was so pretty..Stacey you might remember the river...

Fairy, anxious to see 'tatoo', how did the interview go yesterday..just got computer back so haven't read the posts of the last few days...

Laura, I'm proud of you 'sweetie' won't be an easy road to follow but I'm sure Trisha and all of us will be here to offer support..just DON'T ask that Judy and Liz...nope, hands on hip and shaking my head....

Debbie, so nice to hear your voice..have a few calls to make tonight but will give you a call over the weekend...

Sat on the bench on my way home..trail was so quiet, me/birds/Canada Geese and Mother Nature....all at their best..

This is the inlet bay from us

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, good luck with the tests; hope they figure out what's wrong, that it's not too serious, and that they can do something about is. Good thoughts coming your way.

The river is beautiful, wish I had it in my backyard.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I am enjoying this biking thing..just have to have a 'gel' seat..you would think mine would be well padded but 'not'!

Wanted to show you a photo of my friend Mike...shows you a little of the growth on his arm...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I've tried to do it several times before, so I know what I stumble on, and I have better motivation. It might take awhile with some stumbles along the way, but I have a lot of hope that it'll work this time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure it will Laura..will add you to my prayers...has your weather co-operated, have you been working on the garden..that certainly should take your mind off 'smoking'...

Received a swap 'gift' from Barb last week but did not want to open it until after her appt. with Norm and the specialist...but tonight, received a 'd-mail' although she is under the weather as well it was 'open the box' so that I did..

OMG, hugs/kisses Barb and am jumping up and down..knowing I'm not a cook..lol...she made me an apron that is twofold...one for gardening, included 2 dishcloths, with lovely wording...then you turn it on the reverse side and OMG/OMG it's tools..she knows me too well..look at the beautiful apron I have received...

Now Barb not only did you make it but much thought went into shopping for the material...you are such a dear..I'll cherish it..it's far too pretty, will not want to use it for either gardening or for my construction projects...

Look and see...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now look how pretty the tool side is...isn't it just fantastic???

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm excited...maybe I'll wear it to work tomorrow....won't bring the dishcloths though...they just may put me to work..lol

Will read all the posts tomorrow, promise..

Have a few calls to make tonight..brother Michael is having an operation tomorrow..his hand/arm broken in a few places...a week after the fact they realize they must be pinned....

Please enjoy your evening...
Fingers crossed my computer will still be up and running tomorrow...

Betty, I think the weather has been good for the plants; we’ve had 80+ and sunny and rain. I have to say I like both of those states, I’m not so keen on the dry cloudy day we got in the middle though. We’re supposed to get nice weather later this week, which is good for the garden and me. We’re going to DH’s family reunion this Sunday.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All!

So glad to have you back Betty! You keep us posted on what the tests say...

So....a guy friend named Ray ? Maybe he would like to go bike riding with you?

Trisha - I have loads of cannas...if you tell me how to send them...I will.

I have a variegated /orange by the pool, a red leaf/red flower (hasn't bloomed yet - we've moved it a few times), a green leaf/yellow flower, and a green leaf orange/yellow flower....(not sure if that last one has spread enough yet)

I love cannas....DH - not so much....since they spread so much.....

Laura - You Can Do It ! (((HUGS)))

So glad the thread is back on track.

I'm headed out Saturday morning...So I'll be AWOL for about a week after that.... :)

Hugs,
Mary

Rev Ole and Pastor Sven

Reverend Ole was the pastor of the local Norwegian Lutheran Church , and
Pastor Sven was the minister of the Swedish Covenant Church across the
road. One day they were seen pounding a sign into the ground, that
said:

"DA END ISS NEAR! TURN YERSELF AROUND NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE"

As a car sped past them, the driver leaned out his window and yelled,
"Leave us alone, you religious nuts!"
From the curve we heard screeching tires and a big splash... Rev. Ole
turns to Pastor Sven and asks, "Do ya tink maybe da sign should yust
say

'Bridge Out'?"

Baton Rouge, LA

HA TUBBY!

Linda Kay - It's a crazy quick trip. I feel DS needs some alone time with me. So before the girls head out for visitation...we're leaving to go visit my Dad in FL.

We have to be back the 28th....so it's a very quick trip...but I couldn't resist....Dad lives 5 hours from Orlando...So I booked a day for DS & I to go to Universal/ IoA and see the Blue Man Group...

then drive back the next day.

Have you heard of Blue Man Group?

What is going on in your 9A world? Have you gotten any of this really odd "Cool" weather?

It was gorgeous today....

(((HUGS)))
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have seen the blue man group on tv, and I watch them on you tube! They are great!
It is pretty cool for us here. it has only been about 85 degrees this week, as opposed to the 107 we had about a week ago! But I am not complaining! it has been really nice, and the plants love it!
Have a good trip!

Baton Rouge, LA

Thank you LK! The Cool weather has been strange but it's over now...

DS & I leave Sat....head to Marianna FL... (Near Marion)........a few days later head to US / IOA .....Then Blue man group....

I am thinking DS needs a little alone time with me right now...he is 17 and dont' think he is making good "Choices".... :) (((HUGS)))

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Sounds like a good doctor B, and he is doing right in giving the CT scan. Could just be the migraines, some people get silent migraines, I have had a few this year, it is weird. No real pain, but you feel weird and see weird stuff. I am glad you are safely back home.

Liz, only three succs did good and 2 others hang in there, the soil I put them in was too heavy, If I move them they would do better, but I am waiting for a raised planter to be done. Maybe there. the one is huge though and all are flowering now.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sorry I have missed everything tonight....helped mom with their monthly neighborhood get together. Ended up sending our 90 year old neighbor to the hospital. She has congestive heart failure , cancer and some other issue.....she passed out on us twice tonight. Her daughter is in Italy and son is in California this week.....they have her staying at an assisted living facility while they are gone....we picked her up for tonights meeting......finally got in touch with a grandson.....I just cannot see her continuing to live alone with these health issues.....

Going to call it a night.....talk to every one tomorrow.

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Dawn, forgot to say hi 'sweetie' so nice to see you post...how is Greg doing (have to ask about him you know, he has such a friendly kind voice) and you, are you still enjoying the new position, not that new now, you must be in a routine...the planter you made last year must be spectacular in color - are you making more of the same..would love to ses photo's..are you settling in being a 'grandma' and how is the little one..not so little now..do you have a photo you can share..

Mary, hmmm must think about the Ray and the bike ride ..maybe that's why my blood pressure is up..LOL/LOL Am sure you'll have mega fun with DS ..did listen to the group as the link was posted by I think LindaKay???

OMG Trisha, how terrible for that poor woman..she's probably fighting going into a facility but at some point we all might have to make same choice..after picking her up and her fainting, you must have been terrified..sending prayers for the dear old soul!!!

Tubby, how's the gardenig going...

Laura, be kind to yourself today..I've never smoked so I can't say how hard it will be, listening to others I'm sure it's overwhelming..think of it as 'no smoking for today' then tomorrow you can have same thought..one day at a time...

Well, came downstairs and someone pooped, not ME! Old girl getting old, must clean it..it's also garbage day and I want to leave earlier to see if I can get my blood tests done this am before work so better run..talk later

Pacifica, CA

A good philosophy

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Beers

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else---the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'

The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

Yep, Betty, the doctor is on the right track. Test, then you'll know what is going on. That high blood pressure is really a sneaky thing. Nothing to fool around with. Keep us up on how things go.

Getting ready to leave for Texas and BJ's. She is going all out for us; has been working for weeks and has Mike and DH working, too. Now she is baking tons of cookies! We should have a ball meeting everyone for the first time. Send pictures when we get them.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Been lurking but I am headed to Texas also. Bummer as Mary will be very close to me and might have been a great chance to met her!!

Betty, take seriously all the advice given here--do what the doctor says and keep us posted.

Off to finish packing and getting some last minute things done before in the morning.

Jancie, see you and the Tink very soon!!!

(Cathy), MO

Hello everyone. Saw the thread and thought I'd pop in and say hi. I see lots of familiar names and some new ones also.
Betty it sounds like you are as busy as ever! :-)

Lots of changes in my life the last 6 months or so. I have moved to a new area, have a new guy, and everything in my life is good! Better than good actually. There is some adjustment to be done, but this is something I should have done long ago. Lifes too short!

I just skimmed this thread and am way behind, but it's good to see you all here.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Ate my hot dog & cheetos..Now back to work

Laura wishing you the best to kick the cigs
Barb & I are doing it..If we can help in any way just ask..

LOL Betty. You know I don't get into details much on DG! Suffice it to say I relocated, got my job headquarters moved also. Starting over and it's looking great!

Now if we can just get YOU settled health wise!

Baton Rouge, LA

Marion - I guess we can just wave at each other as we pass each other by on I-10! Where in Texas, to visit family? As I recall your girls aren't too far from you....right?
I have a room in Marianna for 2 nights, one in Orlando 2 night....we are literally driving every other day...at least 5-6 hours....I must be a lunatic for even planning this.....but need to talk to DS....something's up with him....

I'll read back in a bit....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now that's not much information..lol..but that's ok..just nice to know you are on top of the world..not to worry about my health..neither the Lord or the Devil wants me so here I stay for now....starting over, been there done that...that's actually when I started here at DG and met all of you wonderful people..takes a lot of courage doesn't it to start all over..sometimes we have no alternative but to do so...you still have a place and time for gardening though don't you? hope so..

Bev, last year you tried the 'hosta' sale, are you going to attempt it again...how is Scotty doing??? I'm sure with this weather you've been visiting the trailer???

Vicky, how is work going, haven't seen you on for a bit, think of you often as I do with all of you...last time we chatted your hours were reduced..

When speaking with my brother Mike last night he was saying he had to give the order to put lay-off slips in the paychecks of 300 tomorrow..didn't feel very good about that..car industry work!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary you are so going to enjoy this trip..break up the 5 or 6 hours of driving..so much to see along the way..is DS looking forward to the trip or is it mom thinking he needs this vacation with her ..lol...I remember when in New Orleans and travelled to Clearwater Florida, we left early morning and think it was late night when we arrived..but beautiful travelling the coast...care to pack me in your bags...
