the metal art pieces LindaKay I buy when the Meaford and Barrie art shows are on...love rusted metal art..have a trio of herons, sunflower, dragonfly, butterfly..I find I like the rusted look because they fade well into the background of the gardens so doesn't look as 'junky'..

I've had a 5' stained glass blue heron under my back bedroom going on 2 years now..should find a home for it..did you ever want to make something badly, work on it, have it turn out spectacular and then not particularly like it...yep...that's the heron project..

Shar loved the 'kitty' thread..Riley and Missy don't particularly like each other..they each have their corner and don't let the other intrude..war zone...

Posted about the Chocolate Gardens Shar...how is your black garden coming along...

Must be a 'link' day...Terry, Jeff's girlfriend just wrote me a lovely letter, mostly about Jeff taking on projects for me...anyway, she started a new business...totally out of my understanding but says things are going well for her...

She is so much like Jeff...work/work/work, very little time to play!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty and all – I’m doing alright. It’s been a stressful month and I don’t know if that’s the cause or if I have a bug, but I haven’t been feeling good. None of this is seriously major, but defiantly has me down. The most of the reason I haven’t been on here as much is that I have 3 computer addictions at the moment and have to split my time between them.

I have my seeds picked out and my back yard more or less planned. I still need some more Coneflower and strawberries, but should be able to cover the fence side with what I have. The only reasons I haven’t got the seeds down yet is that I need to cover the path and haven’t been feeling good.

Tubby, I know I’m a bit behind, but this is so true of DSD towards me “

Morning, heavy rains here and will stay with us till tomorrow some time..

Excited about the weekend I dropped in and picked up the cushions for the wicker set on my way home, stopped in at Home Depot paid for the 7 cement slabs, dropped into Greg's work and gave him the receipt so he could pick them up on his way home...

While waiting for him I thought I'd week, it was about 6:30 pm when I thought I'd come in..my vision was off so on the couch I went, nauseated and truth be I couldn't even see the tv..very blurred movement just like relection of water on a sunny day..finally about 8pm I called Greg, unexpected the work crew came to do his driveway so he had to rush home to move vehicles and help, said he'd pick it up today..not a problem, called Home Depot and because I paid for it and should have picked it up they said most likely I'd have to wait until the girl on shift came bac on Wedn. if I didn't come in with my receipt..drats, could hardly drive, went to Greg's, about 8 people working on the yard, he's telling me to wait, I'm telling him I can't..so off to Home Depot I go, they wouldn't stamp the receipt for pick up, that would have been too simple, they had to re-imburse me the $$$$...barely made it home..took some meds, even that didn't help, even thought of calling a cab and heading into the hospital but meds must have kicked in and I slept through the night..

this morning I'm still hazing, off a bit..so will take things easy...even as I'm typing the screen here is fuzzy...must be some kind of bug...

Laura so nice to hear from you...something definately must be going around and with all the move/worry very likely that's what has been playing havoc with you...let's hope from what Trisha says, you will have nice weather and you can enjoy sunshine..that might help..looking forward to photo's of your garden...

Trisha, I've rhubbarb leave done up in the garden which holds water for the birdies..would have been a fountain but can't have cords running all over the yard...

Off I go, maybe back to bed...

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Morning All Mom & Sis are here ..Graduations this weekend..Sis's grandson Dillon...Good kid he has come out to help me different times..I payed him but he earned it...He'll be going to trade school..Wants to be a diesel mechanic. Good to see Mom & Elaine.!!!!

Why I Was Fired

For the Annual Company Picnic, management had decided that because of liability issues, we could have alcohol, but only one drink per person...

I was fired for ordering the cups.

Subject: Jasper and the Unbaked Yeast Rolls. . .

Those of you who had/have animals will probably appreciate it more. It is a story that is hilarious in itself and the person that wrote it is a good writer and makes the story even better.
Enjoy...

Jasper and the Unbaked Yeast Rolls

We have a fox terrier by the name of Jasper. He came to us in the summer of 2001 from the fox terrier rescue program. For those of you, who are unfamiliar with this type of adoption, imagine taking in a 10 year old child about whom you know nothing and committing to doing your best to be a good parent.

Like a child, the dog came with his own idiosyncrasies. He will only sleep on the bed, on top of the covers, nuzzled as close to my face as he can get without actually performing a French kiss on me.

Lest you think this is a bad case of 'no discipline,' I should tell you that Perry and I tried every means to break him of this habit including locking him in a separate bedroom for several nights. The new door cost over $200. But I digress.

Five weeks ago we began remodeling our house. Although the cost of the project is downright obnoxious, it was 20 years overdue AND it got me out of cooking Thanksgiving for family, extended family, and a lot of friends that I like more than family most of the time.

I was assigned the task of preparing 124 of my famous yeast dinner rolls for the two Thanksgiving feasts we would attend.

I am still cursing the electrician for getting the new oven hooked up so quickly. It was the only appliance in the whole darn house that worked, thus the assignment.

I made the decision to cook the rolls on Wednesday evening to reheat Thursday morning. Since the kitchen was freshly painted, you can imagine the odor. Not wanting the rolls to smell like Sherwin Williams #586, I put the rolls on baking sheets and set them in the living room to rise for a few hours. Perry and I decided to go out to eat, returning in about an hour. The rolls were ready to go in the oven.

It was 8:30 PM. When I went to the living room to retrieve the pans, much to my shock one whole pan of 12 rolls was empty. I called out to Jasper and my worst nightmare became a reality. He literally wobbled over to me. He looked like a combination of the Pillsbury dough boy and the Michelin Tire man wrapped up in fur. He groaned when he walked. I swear even his cheeks were bloated.

I ran to the phone and called our vet. After a few seconds of uproarious laughter, he told me the dog would probably be OK, however, I needed to give him Pepto Bismol every two hours for the rest of the night.

God only knows why I thought a dog would like Pepto Bismol any more than my kids did when they were sick. Suffice it to say that by the time we went to bed the dog was black, white and pink. He was so bloated we had to lift him onto the bed for the night.

We arose at 7:30 and as we always do first thing; put the dog out to relieve himself. Well, the dog was as drunk as a sailor on his first leave. He was running into walls, falling flat on his butt and most of the time when he was walking his front half was going one direction and the other half was either dragging the grass or headed 90-degrees in another direction.

He couldn't lift his leg to pee, so he would just walk and pee at the same time. When he ran down the small incline in our back yard he couldn't stop himself and nearly ended up running into the fence.

His pupils were dilated and he was as dizzy as a loon. I endured another few seconds of laughter from the vet (second call within 12 hours) before he explained that the yeast had fermented in his belly and that he was indeed drunk.

He assured me that, not unlike most binges we humans go through, it would wear off after about 4 or 5 hours and to keep giving him Pepto Bismol.

Afraid to leave him by himself in the house, Perry and I loaded him up and took him with us to my sister's house for the first Thanksgiving meal of the day.

My sister lives outside of Muskogee on a ranch, (10 to 15 minute drive). Rolls firmly secured in the trunk (124 less 12) and drunk dog leaning from the back seat onto the console of the car between Perry and I, we took off.

Now I know you probably don't believe that dogs burp, but believe me when I say that after eating a tray of risen unbaked yeast rolls, DOGS WILL BURP. These burps were pure Old Charter. They would have matched or beat any smell in a drunk tank at the police station. But that's not the worst of it.

Now he was beginning to fart and they smelled like rotten baked rolls. God strike me dead if I am not telling the truth! We endured this for the entire trip to Karen's, thankful she didn't live any further away than she did.

Once Jasper was firmly placed in my sister's garage with the door locked, we finally sat down to enjoy our first Thanksgiving meal of the day The dog was the topic of conversation all morning long and everyone made trips to the garage to witness my drunken dog, each returning with a tale of Jasper's latest endeavor to walk without running into something. Of course, as the old adage goes, 'what goes in must come out' and Jasper was no exception.

Granted if it had been me that had eaten 12 risen, unbaked yeast rolls, you might as well have put a concrete block up my behind, but alas a dog's digestive system is quite different from yours or mine. I discovered this was a mixed blessing when we prepared to leave Karen's house. Having discovered his 'packages' on the garage floor, we loaded him up in the car so we could hose down the floor.

This was another naive decision on our part. The blast of water from the hose hit the poop on the floor and the poop on the floor withstood the blast from the hose. It was like Portland cement beginning to set up and cure.

We finally tried to remove it with a shovel. I (obviously no one else was going to offer their services) had to get on my hands and knees with a coarse brush to get the remnants off of the floor. And as if this wasn't degrading enough, the darn dog in his drunken state had walked through the poop and left paw prints all over the garage floor that had to be brushed too.

Well, by this time the dog was sobering up nicely so we took him home and dropped him off before we left for our second Thanksgiving dinner at Perry's sister's house.

I am happy to report that as of today (Monday) the dog is back to normal both in size and temperament. He has had a bath and is no longer tricolor. None the worse for wear I presume. I am also happy to report that just this evening I found two risen unbaked yeast rolls hidden inside my closet door.

It appears he must have come to his senses after eating ten of them but decided hiding two of them for later would not be a bad idea. Now, I'm doing research on the computer as to: 'How to clean unbaked dough from the carpet.'

And how was your day?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty.....that does NOT sound good!!! Please get checked and take care of yourself!!!
I am spending the morning cleaning and doing laundry as Sage was sick last night:(

ROLF!!!! Tubby those are both great stories!!!

Hope you all have a great day....sun is out and it is supposed to be in the seventies today and tomorrow...have a Memorial Service this afternoon so doesn't look like I will get much Outside Time today....maybe tomorrow.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-worried that I haven't seen you:(

Terry-LOVED the Arthur/Lancelot one!!LOL

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, I’m going to try quitting smoking in a couple days, so I’ll probably feel worse before I feel better, but I think I might be to the point I can actually pull it off.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Laura - Good Luck! You can do it !!!

Stacey - me too.....worried...

I'll check back in a bit....

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Back from Church......still no Betty?? That bothers me....I didn't like the symptoms she was giving us yesterday......she needs to at least train one of the boys, or someone, to get on here and let us know what is going on when she isn't well.....we worry like old mother hens!

Lyndonville, NY

Just a quick pop in. One thing, even though we are all worried about Betty...as am I....we did have some horrible storms go thru our area the last 24 hours. It is very possible it took her power or internet out. I pray it is something that simple. As you said, do not like those symptoms at all.

I will post more tomorrow...just a quick hello, and good night.

Debbie

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello Debbie & Trisha - I am worried as well....

Bad storms through here as well....

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Morning All
I sure wish someone would tell us if things are okay with Betty..Hope it is something like power outage....Waiting & wondering...

GREAT NEW PHOTOS
Here SHE is! As you scroll down, notice the two twin towers on top.

Here SHE is, the USS New
York, made from the
World
Trade
Center !

USS
New York
It was built with 24 tons of
scrap steel from the
World
Trade
Center .

It is the fifth in a new class of warship -
designed for missions that include special
operations against terrorists. It will carry a
crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines
to be delivered ashore by helicopters and
assault craft.

Steel
from the
World
Trade
Center was melted
down in a foundry in
Amite , LA to
cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured
into the molds on Sept 9, 2003 , 'those big rough
steelworkers treated it with total reverence,'
recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there.
'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.'
Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that
when the trade center steel first arrived, he
touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my
neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for
all of us,' he said. 'They knocked us down. They
can't keep us down. We're going to be
back.'

The
ship's motto?
'Never Forget'

This is so everyone can see what we are made
of in this country!

Morning, no worry, spend pretty much all of yesterday laying down, had chores to do but Greg came over then Cathy came over and spent most of the day doing them for me..got myglad rages on and went over to Mike's 60th..had to do that!

Stayed just long enough for him to open gifts, share in a meal and home, straight to bed..

The sun is beaming in, went to let the animals out and chilly it was..thank goodness the plants were brought in..no snow but even the fountain has signs of ice build up..

Only thing I can think of to do today is dig the hole for the 4x4 for cafe birdhouse and cement it in..Greg picked up more patio stones and said he and the boys would be back today to get them set in..only thing I could get into would be putting the curtain rod and drapes I just got for dining room window(which need shortening)..that is barely to no effort..

Still a touch of headache, finger aren't as numb, just a bit...I know, go to emergency..we've done that before right, ended up spending the night on the emerge floor coming home without seeing anyone...

This is our long weekend, you'd not get to see a doctor unless you were dying, which I'm not..if not better by Tuesday I'll surely be seeing one...

Lazy day for me, hope it's the same for you..well perhaps not, it would be nice for you to enjoy your gardening, biking and family...

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty glad to hear from you..Headache & numb fingers..I think going to Dr Tuesday even if you fill better..Don't sound like a good combination..
