Garden Photos of '09.... #18

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

DiggerDee, I think you've nailed the ID. Thank you. I brought it home for it's good looks but it's nice to have a name to go with it!

Robindog, it's a funny thing about that tulip, when I was a kid I would look through my Dad's bulb catalogs and pick out all the darkest, oddest looking Tulips in the book and my Father would never buy them. He liked very classic simple flowers, still does. Now it's so much fun to be able to plant what I like. So, I have my father to thank for that tulip, too!

Good story! I always like the odd ones too.
I finally planted a few of the new rhodies.
Before (we just cut out the saplings):

No problem, Victor!

Lookin' Good, Boojum!!

I like the odd ones, three.

Hummers are all over the quince like a cheap suit. Crabapple behind is huge.

Love to have you at the RU, phoebe, with or without plants (although I'd love some phals since I rotted a bunch this winter)!

Pixie, I took a shot of my N.Tahiti today. Sorry for the mud, poured again last night here. I planted it in 2007 from EFlower @ .50 each in two spots, both doing fine. It has held up through all the hard rains. You got a dud or maybe it is Narcissus 'Golden Ducat' which I don't have, but have seen it. Patti

Victor, I love that columbine close up. It looks like a seahorse.

Redchic, great cat with impeccable posture.

Hemhostaholic, love the photo's that show a peek at your beds. Great combo of color, texture and shapes. I can't believe you already have peonies.

Boojum, great to see some shots of your garden. Always looks great. I was thinking about you today when I found 2 SDBI open. I love that one that DyanesGarden has called Dwarf Bearded Iris 'Tickety Boo'.

Here is 'Snow Tree' and 'Sparky' along with a swallow who seems to like the bird houses near the iris. Patti

Link to my pictures from last week. Enjoy.

Thanks! What a great day. Time for the ibuprophen!! Patti, I love snow tree. Hope mine blooms this year. Now to look at your pics.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Wow! Amazing display, Patti, and too many to comment!! I must look at this in the fall and get some of them!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Boojum, I think I spy one of your new primula from Tower Hill in that picture. Sooooo jealous.

Thanks, I have some choice little narcissus. I know you do to. We must compare notes. Did you see the early spring show?

My frit.persica is a winner. Well at least I finally got one to bloom. I still get foliage, but no blooms on some older ones in the garden. I almost couldn't get up after taking this picture. I should have had one of those "I've fallen and I can't get up" things around my neck. The dogs couldn't figure out what I was doing. Patti

Thom... wow, your yard is definitely fully out of hibernation! most of my hostas are up but haven't uncurled yet.

Thanks Pixie... She's definitely a soft, fluffy, fur ball and loves any body who reaches out to pet her....... and give her treats!! lol. Your Jack Frost is lovely!

Dyane... oh, you'll so enjoy the saphho. I have one word of advice though, it has a tendency to get very leggy if it's not bud pinched when it's younger. If you do that for a couple of years in a row... it will be beautiful. However, if you want tall and gangly looking, don't bud pinch and it will be perfect for that.

Allison..... 'Precious' say's "thanks you!" (she sat up and put her paws up - her way of saying thanks!)

Thanks Robin and Patti. I admit, I'd never seen a cat that could sit up that straight before her. and she has great balance while doing that too. So long as whatever she's on doesn't spin, she can usually stay upright for quite a while.

Great photos Patti!

Boo. ... your yard is beautiful. nice work.

This section is coming along quite nicely. Filling with coleus near the BirdBath, too much traffic in the winter to and from the woodpile
What a difference three weeks makes.

I found the second Nana. I'll send a pic when the sun comes up, altho we are due for wind and thunder storma..
Blue Angels are comming along too. The NOID you sent is slow but there.

OMG Patti. Planting those thousands of bulbs sure paid off. I have never seen half of those bulbs! I especially loved the reticulatas. Where did you buy those??

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes Patti we want to know. I tried to replicate from your pics but just for color ,not varieties.

Ge1836, love the spoons stakes. Your garden is starting to explode. Another early morning for you too!

Wha, I admire your garden beds as they have such great architectural form and you have taken such care in selecting the right plants for each. Mine are a jumble. I need to practice what you do and be more selective. Doubt that will happen, but I can dream about it.

It is foggy and damp here this morning. I was hoping to have another stellar day like yesterday afternoon. No excuse this morning to avoid house work. drat!

Boojum and Jo-Ann, I am glad you like them. I am a big fan. In the past I have bought many reticulated iris on sale from Eflower, Brent and Becky, Van Engelen, Touch of Nature, Scheeper, Coops, and Mcclure. However, I will get any new ones that I don't already have from those folks at any price or from anyone else who has one that I don't already have. The only one that has not returned is one called Natascha, which was kind of a washed out nearly white one, but I may try it again. They come up so early which is another big plus for me. I need color as soon as I can get it.

I am starting to get things besides bulbs blooming. Here is a dicentra Alba that is always a favorite. Hosta are erupting, except for the ones the deer mowed down the other night. But most of our hosta have been planted inside the fenced area, so they are all fine. I have to have some hosta out by the stream and about now the deer usually leave them alone until the fall. DH sprayed again yesterday after the damage was done. They will come back. Patti

omg, does it look like spring! Thom, that wide shot is absolutely wonderful. worth the wait, I assure you. I envy ALL of the JM's. I only have one that was put in by my original landscaper...I think it's a 'Bloodgood'.

RC, I have Kitty envy, too. :0)

Great pics, everyone. I'll have to show mine later. I haven't downloaded them yet
