I believe this peony to be 'Bowl of Beauty,' although I'm not 100% sure.
Garden Photos of '09.... #18
Nice, Thom! Love the peonies. Have to name that dicentra Jason!
Those peonies are wonderful Thom. I agree with Victor.... 'Jason' is a great name for that Dicentra!
If anyone happend to come upon my house, this is the view of the right front bed. I always dreamed that the cascades from the 'Young's Weeping' Birch, would "flow" into the red JM, which that would flow into the green JM. Finally, after about 7 years, possibly 8, it's starting to get the feel! I can't remember for the life of me the names of the 2 JM's...they are both very heavily dissected though...so they may just be JM palmatum 'Dissectum's' but I haven't a clue...those plant tags have been long gone.
Just catching up--at work all day...Dyanes--that parrot tulip is amazing! Boojum--I should warn you...I'm a vicarious, virtual gardener this year(and redchic's chainsaw caddy!)....but I could contribute some AV's, and I have a few baby paph orchids looking for a home. If that's ok--I'd love to come! And I love iris! I also need to check my work schedule....It was so nice of you to ask me to join in!
I should, even as it grows now, if I were to push back the foliage on that Dicentra, the roots are still visible.
There is sort of a v or u shape between the 2 JM's and I wanted something there that could handle the shadiness, and moisture factor, but still handle getting some afternoon sun (albeit fleeting afternoon sun)...this Hellebore is about 2 years old, and HUGE.
In the very right front of this bed, is a little slope that I tried just about anything to grow there...pretty much everything died. It happens to be right near my sidewalk and my neighbors sidewalk, so, in the winter time snow with salt from the road gets dumped on this area. After reading and viewing other NE members trials with ground covers that were tough as nails...I came up with a winning combo. There are 4 ground covers here. Along with a blue globe spruce, and a chameacyparis. The basket of gold is nice now, and has a nice scent to it. The golden creeping genny, is doing it's job, and snow in summer is remarkably tolerant of just about anything, and the other ground cover (can't remember the name) is doing well in this area also...It's taken about 8 plants, about 2 of each variety, and about 2 years (3 growing seasons) to get this matt look. I still have dandelions popping up, but not nearly as much when this first started!
Great wide shot of your front, Thom! Looks real nice. 'No hana' or 'No too sura'?!
Nice to see you back Thom, I've missed your garden. ^_^
RC that cat is simply beautiful. I want to reach out and touch his/her fur! It looks so soft and fluffy.
Dyane I love that T.Boo and I have never seen a columbine so loaded before! Your Azaleas are lovely also, such a rich color.
Victor your 'June' Hosta is scrumptious, I hope my baby looks like that some day.
'Jack Frost' starting to bloom now.
Very nice everyone!
Why is Tahiti a disappointment?
Very nice, Celeste. I always say I will grow Brunnera and never do. Great tulips.
Thom, you may call them generic, but those Peonies sure are pretty! I love the leaf shape on Wolverine, too.
Celeste, your Jack Frost is looking lovely. It looks like mine did not make through the winter. I am going to give them another try.
Shelley, I just planted 'Sappho' this year. I love it.
I checked on the Geranium. It doesn't seem to have scented leaves. The largest leaf is about 4 inches wide but the flowers are tiny. Here is a shot of the whole plant...
wow wow wow.... great photos today kids!
the cat pictures put me over the edge though!
Dyane, is that a Samobor geranium perhaps?
What ever it is, it's lovely!!
Everything is looking so luscious and colorful everywhere!! Nice photos everyone!
I am pretty much just shades of green, but many spots now to tuck in some splashes of color.
I was cleaning in the GH, making room for more seedlings and started preparing all the variegated jades I have set aside for those who were interested a bit back. I sprayed them down with rubbing alcohol, washed quickly off, and a nice spray of Safer Soap. They looked clean, but I don't want strays hitching a ride to their new homes.
So, Allison, Jen, Jo Ann, Karen and Victor, I am thinking June 1st will be safe for shipment. I will keep y'all informed. They are probably tall enough to cut back and make cuttings out from.
Jen, Tahiti shows a lovely orange center,,,,mine does not... It's more like egg yolk!
See how pretty this one is...

Wow---don't know where to start---Patti---that new bed was going to be just iris & DL's, but when I saw the size, I knew it needed more---so, it will have short, bushy roses & peonies as well as the others--I need plants that won't shade out the veggie garden on the other side of the fence. Dyane--the 'black' parrot tulip was my Dad's fav---brings back memories. I think you have a per. geranium, but not J's Blue---I think phaeum. Shelley---my cousin wants to rid his place of wisteria because it's strangling everything---your cat is too adorable! Thom & Victor---lovely photos! The JMs are getting to be favorites. Pixie---nice pics---I really liked the blueberry tulip you posted earlier.
oh ya, big difference.
Thanks, Willie!
