Ok, next time I will get there early to hitch a ride!
Beautiful photography as usual Candee, wonder if they are American reds? love those! they are the most expensive apples in our supermarkets LOL!.
The blossom seems to come and go in a flash! I missed the boat on snipping a bit from my neighbours apple tree this year! Thanks for sharing yours.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Oops thanks Terri but the same one twice
No they are not the reds at the cabin but the deer love them they are sour green apples, but the trees are beauties all the same

What a nice variety of plants we have here in May in the garden. And it has only been three days!

May flowers are certainly in abundance. Here's another azalea.

and a photo of persimmon flowers. My mom was over the other day and commented that there didn't look like there were any persimmons this year. But, the flowers are small, greenish, and easy to miss. If you look closely, there are quite a bit of flowers. But, the leaves of the trees are large, and tend to hide these little flowers.

Hi Dianne, I love May, so much to see in the gardens!
Your Azalea is a gorgeous colour, do they last long in arrangements? I find alot of garden flowers flop so easily.
What do Persimmon taste like? I don't think I've ever tried it..
My Geum has started to flower, but it's not a very nice day here, it's rather dull and cloudy for photo's.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Pretty color in that azalea Dianne. I see mine blooming a bit out the window, but just too rainy to get out there today so will enjoy yours. I have never had a persimmon either, perhaps you will take some to the cafe so we may try them.

Christchurch, New Zealand

I have a tiny orphan azalea that has flower buds.
It didn't have any when I bought it so it will be nice to see what colour flowers I get.
I am surprised to see it coming into flower now, my other one puts on a nice show in spring.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

That persimmon is lovely! I dont have too many today.. My boxwood actually bloomed. It has teen tiny white flowers on it.

Will be waiting to see that azalea dalfrye and what color you have nutured from your orphan.
Blossom, I am always amazed at the lilacs. I have several and they just don't want to produce much, they are hundreds of years old just like me and just get a few measly blooms, matter of fact this year my oldest one got a few and some didn't even do anything with all this rain? Yours look stupendous! Now get the ladder and pick some for me eh?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, I am no expert on lilacs. but have you tried taking the dead or older wood out of the bush? Sometimes bushes benefit from a sever pruning. I am nooo expert though so maybe you should see what Daves plant file says about them!

Mine are the dwarf variety. French I think. So no ladder neeeded although I do have one huge monster out there on another bed. It is about 2x as tall as those above. I have a later variety that blooms in a few more weeks. It has a wrinkled leaf and I have no clue as to what variety it is. I got all of them through Arbor Day one year and well, it was what ever came then.

Going out to pick!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Yeah I do that pruning stuff and have similar woes with my wisteria, get flowers but only a nominal amount and lots of leaves. Will have to do further research although must tell you that I know of a lot of lilac bushes around town that go untouched for centuries and they are full of blooms?

london England, United Kingdom

How do you know they have been untouched for centuries? you Aint that old mate !! LOL

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

LOL, you don't know that! I just see some that are in a location that cannot be reached on a steep bank and they just bloom like crazy.

I know you're still a workin' gal.... hey I'm really sounding American now LOL!

Blossom, your lilacs are a beautiful display there! I was too chicken to cut the blooms off the lilacs I saw down the street today! Afraid some loony might come out and shout at me !!
I have a rescued Spirea!! my neighbour was throwing it out, saying it was ugly!!! she said it's called Jacobs coat and it has different colours. I put it in a big pot for now.
The Japanese painted fern is a strange thang!! Thanks for the photo's!

Hi dalfyre!

Haighr, restricted on time I've not read the whole thread, but based on your initial post, please explain (perhaps again), the benefit of the coffee grounds for azaleas?

Wanted to compliment the first picture to. LOVE the vibrant color of the birdhouse! So many birdhouses are lost in the garden and yours a beautiful focal point!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Terri that is a perfect presentation for dalfrye, bet she is really getting a kick outta those babies, adorable.
Tir, my mother always said that azaleas, rhods and that sort love soil that is acidic and nothing works better than coffee grounds. Thanks on the birdhouse, Steve made it for me and I picked the colors, I love the colors in the garden, brings out the best in me and the garden LOL!

what a great combination, dalmatians & flowers, my two favourite things!
thanks Terri :)

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

You may only have one blossom but it is a lovely one! Would love to see a lighter photo of that columbine, is it reddish? Looks intriguing.
dalfyre, Terri always comes up with an interesting combination!

That iris is a brilliant purple, do you have lots of those?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

No, its one of a kind purple iris as far as I know! I used to have quite a few bearded iris but the flooding here has done a lot of them in. I have one large bed and its already full of grass and the other bed is smaller and full of yarrow and grass. Then I have patches of them here and there. All different colors and although at one time they did have named labels now I have no clue as to what they are. The a-hem bad stray birds around here seem to get a kick out of plucking my plant tags off. Grrrr.

Well here is a cutie that will not be plucking any lables!!

Its my pic of the day for blooming things in 2009 month of May!

Now that is quite a bloom blossom!
