Thanks Haighr! Here is a coreopsis.

I keep trying with that pathetic camera.. been switching with my hubs periodically too so if you are seeing larger shots, those are his camera now and my camera are the little frames. I have simmered down to a low roar over my frustration with it.. So been sooo trying to adapt. (I hate change!!)

I got this form DIRTYGIRL71 - it is a cutey! I think I am going to bump it up and put it into a hanging basket. I hope I can winter it as a houseplant! I am also going to try to make cutting starts of it.

Sally,

Wow! Fulton Mansion! They sure have remodeled it! I used to go to Fulton Beach a lot as a teenager and I remember it well! Isn't it supposed to be haunted by a sea captain's wife? We went to Rockport, Aransas Pass, Fulton and all around there. Padre Island, St Joe's Island... Oh to be young again and walk the beaches...

I have traveled and been to Padre Island. Swam the beaches of Hawiia, Maui and Kuai, walked the beach in California, seen several beaches on the east coast, drove the beach on Corpus Christi, hit some on the east of Canada, but never did never saw Fulton though and from your veiw, it is by far very lovely wiht its mansion!! Thanks for showing us!

....Pink rose, hmm might be a duplicate post... owell!

Valarian For the life of me I cannot understand this plant. It smells heavenly from a distance, but stick your nose right to it and it takes on a new aroma!

And my last but not least for May 2009 is our old wisteria from our old farm,. Its just a shade lighter in color than the China Blue.

Lovely pics and chatter here in the May 2009 in the garden everyone!

See you in the June 2009 edition!

Does someone have the link?

Hey BB I was on a black sand nude beach on the big island had to climb down a cliff to access it. The water spilling over the black sand gave the illusion of sparkling diamonds. What a beautiful spot.
Now is that white valerian? Mine is rose colored and it smells good close and far?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL! No waaay are you or anyone for that matter catching me on a beach nude. That black sand however does sound intrigueing.

I was disallusioned by Diamond Head. I saw it on TV on that Hawaii 50 show and it looked soooo big. But after seeing it in realife, it was small to me. Its only about a mile long and it looks waaay bigger in the show.

The beach off of Diamond head was black lava rock.

They had a fabulous zoo in HIlo. Awesome and beautiful. Parrots and animals galore.

We toured some botanical gardens and man I saw plants there that I will never again see in my lifetime. So beautiful and unique.

I recall one plant that the islands had lost their pollinators and the people had to do the insects job otherwise the plant would go extinct too. Terrible thing how we take the insects for granted until we have to do their job.

Well, dont know about you, but I am off to the new June 2009 in the garden thread so if you would like to join me, I am going here!

Sally, haighr. terri, everyone, I enjoyed the chatter and the lovely pics here, hope to see you all there too!

Christchurch, New Zealand

we have black sand beaches on the west coast of the Nth Island.
High iron content makes it black.
Used to love going there as a child, really magical places.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I thought in Hawaii it was black due to volcanic ash. I would love to see the one in New Zealand one day, but must likely just dream about it. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

This is the black sand beach we visited in Hawaii. Kehena Beach and the write up.

Quoting:
If you plan on going on vacation, this isn’t the place to take your family, especially if you have young children. The beach is said to be a nude beach, though this is illegal in Hawaii. At Kehena, you aren’t alone. Here you will find dolphins, which is why this beach is sometime called Dolphin Beach. You can even swim with these dolphins if the current isn’t too bad. Most people that go to Kehena just sit in the sand and enjoy the weather and water.

You can see how you have to climb down to it. We didn't see any dolphins on our visit.

Dint see any dolphins in Hawaii either, but we thought we say a couple sharks off a beach in Maui. That was a great beach though! Nice and clean.

That trip I took was back in the mid 70's.

Heard there was a place you could swim with the dolphins in Mexico, but dont know where. I guess its a tourist thing, but man that would be awesome to grap Flippers fin and go for a ride! (Oh GOD, am I dating myself.. does anyone remember that show.. FLIPPER?!! LOL!)

Christchurch, New Zealand

lol - I remember Flipper...
used to watch that & Gentle Ben, Daktari & Black Beauty.
Animal obsessed - who me? :)
there are places in Aussie where the wild dolphins will come in to swim with people if they feel like it.
Monkey Mia is one place.
In NZ you can swim with seals or dolphins in a variety of locations.
The difference being that the boats seek the dolphins out,
mind you if they don't fancy human company they can just swim away.
Whale watching tours are popular too.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Yeah, animal obsessed here too! But then some of the actors in them days were gorgeous too! And man, that was when tv was GOOOOD, none of this crap they got on now.

Christchurch, New Zealand

Reality TV is a contradiction in terms!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Aint it though!!!... Jeez, nothing real about it. Staged every bit of it... I quit watching tv over a year and a half ago and dont miss the shows, the news or any of it. Including the monthly bill for paying to watch what should be free. Dint really watch much when we had it....

Dont get a paper either. Seems nothing in the media effects us direct anyway. So I center myself around my home, my family and friends and get more done that way.

Oh sure, I get the news, but about the only thing that really concerns us direct is the weather.

Well, dont know about you , but I am heading back to the garden, go tend my animals and get down to reailty living and a real backache. Seems when I twitch my nose or try that "genie" thing with the arms...., stuff dont get shoveled. planted, watered, fed or anything else gets done.

South, TX

I love some shows and HGTV for sure. We have a really great 50 inch HGTV and the shows on the History channel are gorgeous. There was one about the core of the earth last night, amazing. We love HBO movies too.

I also watch a lot of Fox News channel. The only news I watch, the others are slanted. We do still get the newspaper. Great for local events going on on the bay, museums, garden shows, etc.

I like to watch and have my laptop here on my lap with my feet up. I like relaxing after watering all of my violets, gardening, housework and pet care.

Christchurch, New Zealand

the office at work turned into horticulture central yesterday.
The boss & co-worker Jan repotted some of the African violets that are thriving on the window sill in there.
I got the hanging baskets down from outside.
The old potting mix went on the garden & they filled them with new mix & plants.
I will have to dig up some of my nemesias to put into the bare bit of garden.
Will brighten our outdoor area, it has been looking a bit dreary since the plants died back.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Out here you pay big bucks to get the good shows like HGTV and the history channel and even the weather. Those fix it shows were pretty good, but man the rest was raunch. We used to have a huge screen tv too and that was great, but it is not good when there is 300 channels of nothing on and you gotta buy it.

Dalfyre that soundsed like fun at the office!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

TV not our thing here either, but I do remember Flipper! We swam with sharks and rays in Belize. We got shirts that say we survived Shark Ray Alley. We went out to an area near the reef which they say is the second largest barrier reef after australia. We plan on doing the dolphin swim this winter in the bahamas, one of the shore excursions. They have one excursion in which they take you out in the open ocean to a spot and they call in the dolphins and you can swim with them and the other excursion is in a lagoon. Think we are leaning toward the lagoon as neither of us are very strong swimmers anymore, so best not be in the middle of the open seas LOL!
