Garden Photos of '09.... #15

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

when I was growing up there was a bear track that crossed our yard at sun up she would come walking by with the cubs and at sun down would go the other way so if one of us had to leave or come home at those times we would look first before getting out of the car or walking out of the house, it was a pain and dangerous so glad that I dont have to deal with them in this area

Here are some of the daffs.

More bulb shots. Not sure what these are, but I want about 1,000 of them!

One of the hellebore clumps...not sure of the sp. This one I think quadruple in size from last year!

what is the location of your hellebores is it in full sun and which side of the house is it protected since I had trouble growing mine in toronto which was a 6b

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice shots, Thom. Those look like tulips to me. Real nice, too.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Partial sun. It gets some afternoon sun, for maybe 2-3 hours. It's sort of in the middle of a Youngs Weeping Birch, a Birds Nest conifer(not sure if it's a spruce or not), and 2 JM's.

It's smack dab in the middle of "busy." There is a 2nd clump behind this one, same Genus/sp. That died back completely...why this one grew like this is beyond me, but I'm not complaining. The leaves are almost "sharp" looking with saw like teeth all along the edges. I have a similiar Hellebore planted further up in this bed, but it didn't flower as of yet.

It's in my front left bed, in front of my home.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I thought they might be some of the species tulips that I planted, like 'Tarda,' but I have those coming up as well, they are mixed in with Muscari, and are about 4-6" tall, these guys are almost a foot tall...so not 100% sure if they are species tulips gone amuck or what...lol.

This is the whole clump, I planted 2 different waves of these guys. They are about 8-10" tall!

Congrats, Celeste. Beautiful blooms!

Thom, Your Hollyhocks are looking very healthy, thanks again. Nice to see your garden coming alive.

Victor, that picture from the Public Gardens brings back great memories for me. It was always one of my favorite places to sit and clear my mind when I was growing up.

and that point to what north south east or west

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

This is the other "wave" of them...now that I'm looking at their foliage, I'm going to agree with you Victor that they are tulips, what species, I have no idea. I bought them at the Christmas Tree store last year during their 50cent sale!

Lucky you - who cares what they're called!

Thanks, Dyane.

I believe, not 100% sure that it points NW'ish...more West.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Dyane, I saw them coming up here too! I planted 4 of the Hollyhocks that I started. I might actually get a bloom from them this year!

On the species tulips, are they Tulipa turkestanica? If so, both Scheepers and Brent & Becky's carries them.

This is a close up of one of my turkestanica this year

Thom.... I love the waves of daffs. Nice job!

Lovely yard Robin! I'm so glad that you have one of the bleeding hearts left! what a bummer about the rest of them.

Pixie.... It looks like everything in your yard decided to open up all at once. It's great.

Victor.... you made the kerria look beautiful!

Good morning Shelly.
I'm still looking for those Blue Angels you gave me.
Many hostas are up ,Its going into the 80's today and rain tomorrow so maybe they will break thru.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I sure hope so! Mine are about 2 maybe 3" above ground now. But, it was 80 for four days a week ago. So there's still plenty of hope!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

What about little hosta nana? That one is always the last one to come up for me. I have to be really careful when I'm weeding to not weed that area until they are fully up. If not, it's too easy to weed them! Nana just poked itself up last week and is now about 1/2" about ground. A real growth spurt for that one!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have all plants marked with white plastic spoons and NaNa isnt up yet ,plus last years blossom stems are there to remind me. The plant is under the JM and safe from my big feet. The viola odorata is leafed and I'm looking for a med -lg NOID hosta you sent.
My FranWilliams just shot out of the ground yesterday as well as Gouachamole.
Its just barely light so in an hour I'll "walk the line" to see what appeared overnight.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

lol.... thanks! now I'm going to be singing that song in my dreams! I'm so glad to hear that nana's so well marked. It's just an easy one to go by the wayside. the problem with my patch of them is that they're close to the edge of the bed (why wouldn't they be, nobody could see them if the were behind anything else) and folks who have a hard time finding the 15' wide driveway manage to drive up too near them. This winter someone did drive over about a 6" wide section of them. (which is a lot of those little plants!) I was peaved, especially since one as to drive over some pretty big rocks to do that!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Hummmmm sounds like quite a party LOL
Thats when I always over exceede the driveway.
If yours is that wide ,they must have been drunk.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

That's the way that I look at it!! lol guess I need to line the driveway with small boulders for those folks.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You'll need help from Bill in CT.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

lol.... very true! I'll have to look into that. Although, I think that my budget would be shot by the time he made it to the midewest. But, you never know......

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Great talkin to ya.
I'm outta hee now that the sun is up enough to scout hostas

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful shots, Shelly. Can't improve that JM much! Which clem is that? Love the lewisias.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I too like both those lewisia's and that clem is very pretty.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Very nice display to look at this morning. Thank you everyone. The blooms are much appreciated.
