Coffee Break #10 - Summer in Spring
Off to watch a movie with the family.
What movie, Victor?
Enjoy!
It was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It was cute.
thank you Louise.... and glad to hear it's still kickin... now hopefully we can meet up
better in a tree than in your house... we had that happen the first summer we owned this house... we now get terminx to come in and make sure that doesn't happen again... I was freaking out
:)
get some of that spray that you hook up to the garden hose... spray the base of the house... if you have any tree limbs that go over your roof they will come in that way as well... bad news for sure
I grew up in a city... I can't have bugs in my house... want to talk about culture shock... my co-worker just kept saying "you live in the woods now, it's going to happen"... my response was not if I can help it
almost... jump off the branch on to the roof... seriously
well more like fall if it's close enough
POSSIBLE STEPS FOR CARPENTER ANT PREVENTION
1. Correct moisture problems, roof leaks, and plumbing leaks.
2. Cut back tree limbs or branches that could serve as a bridge to your structure.
3. Seal cracks and openings around the foundation, especially where utility pipes and wires enter from the outside.
4. Firewood needs to be stacked away from the house, elevated off the ground if possible. They love to nest in firewood.

Oh great---our home sounds like heaven for carpenter ants, but I haven't seen any yet----however----I found 4 red lily beetles on my lilies yesterday! I'm soooo PO'd. I'm checking twice a day, & have a bleach solution to pop them into. Love that fountain, Louise! I'd love one someplace, but I can picture the airedale taking it apart----or peeing in it! Those who liked the sound of the soup----easy! Cook 4 cups of yellow squash(peeled if tough) in 4cups chicken broth, 2 cups water, 1 chopped onion, 2 cloves garlic, salt & pepper, & I use 1/4 tsp curry---you could use the amount you like---when squash is tender & cooled, puree mixture in blender. Add 1 cup evaporated milk, & serve cold.
sounds yummy
No bay leaf?
Thanks, Sherrie! I'll be checkin' in with you soon to arrange a veggie rendez-vous at your plant stand!
Robin - I'm not a squash fan, but I think I might even like that soup!
Happy Mother's Day to all of you Moms out there!!! We're heading down to Conn. to enjoy a cookout at my son's. We're not settled in here enough yet to have him and his dog here.....no bed still in the guest room since Hank has to repair and paint it first. Then, we are having a nice surprise on Thursday (Hank's birthday). His daughter is flying in that day with our new granddaughter that we haven't met yet. She is coming for his birthday and her sister's 40th the next day. What a treat!!!
Happy Mothers Day to you and to all our mothers on the NE forum.
Happy Mothers Day to all the moms!
Thanks Louise and Dave.
Thanks Louise, David and Harper! (Even my ex-husband wishes me happy mothers day each year.... weird.) You know, Mothers Day was started by Julia Ward Howe as a peace movement - we mothers would rather keep our sons alive. (I don't have any sons, but you get the idea,) I like it the way it is now, though. Happy Mothers Day to all mothers, step-mothers, grandmothers, temporary mothers, acting mothers, et al.!
My sentiments exactly! Lots of folks grow up in nontraditional homes, & it's a 'mother' keeping things together.
Happy Mother's Day Moms!
Victor--your card was lovely!
Thanks, Phoebe - Happy Mothers Day to all!
I'll start a new thread shortly.
