Synda thanks..

I'm not driving today with my head sore this bad, this is different kind of ache, sore. Randall is tied up with major work emergencies. I tried calling for appt., but got put on hold twice for long times. Calling first thing in the morning often can gets same day or next day appt with my doc. (overslept and didn't do that today) ER said to see him after 3 days, so that should be good.
believe it or not, I'm not dizzy dizzy today. it shook up my head pretty good. hurts on left temple side where ball struck, and on right side opposite even worse. in ER, my soul just wanted to sleep. they checked my eyes and told me it was reaction after adrenaline. from time ball hit, was nauseous, but that faded by time we left ER. last night I felt like I'd been wrung out. took the vicadine and motrin. today am feeling like I should just take it easy. foam neck brace is really working good. if anything, neck is better than it's been because of brace.
It's all for fun.I was in a contest last week to guess the birth date and weigh of a DG'ers DGD that was coming and I guess the weight dead on 6 lbs 13 oz......LOL.And boy is Baby Emma Beautiful !!!!!!!! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/973727/
Bonnie, get REST,REST and MORE REST.Hope you feel better soon.
Bonnie when my neck or back is out of place I'll get dizzy migraines, maybe a chiropractor would help.Sometimes nerves get pinched. I told you maybe it knocked the dizzies outa ya.......
today just gets better! across the street neighbor, the one that in retirement fixes lawn mowers and mows everyone's lawn but ours, brought his rider over and mowed the back while our mower is in for repairs. he did an awesome job around the iris beds considering he's not seen them before.
long handled winged weeders arrived. 2 mins. later I was out trying them. weeds are so dense, I cut down 3 iris fans. need short handled too,(and new glasses). these work so well I ordered one. it's still a lot of work, but these do seem to make it easier and faster. and before anyone complains, I lasted 10 mins. With these long handled ones, I never got down on my knees. and no dizzies! it's not hot, it's not sunny, it wants to rain again.
well, the living room is neater, folded 3 load of waiting laundry. tomorrow, we buy new glasses and go to doc if I can get appt.
Kim, that's already looking like your home. Great job!
am so envious right now of these with fowls. fowl? pl? Randall says NO.
Cody, where'd ya get all the cannas? those look awesome.
I want to share an Email I received today from a friend. My youngest brother Shawn spent 16 months in Iraq and came home safe and sound, thank the dear Lord.
Will you give this to my Daddy?
As a Company, Southwest Airlines is going to support 'Red Fridays..'
Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed One of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.
Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camos. As they began heading to their gate, everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering.
When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and Cheered for, it hit me. I'm not alone. I'm not the only red-blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families.
Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal.
Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our Service men and women, a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old ran up to one of the male soldiers.. He kneeled down and said 'hi.'
The little girl then asked him if he would give something to her daddy for her.
The young soldier, who didn't look any older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give to her daddy. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.
The mother of the little girl, who said her daughter's name was Courtney, told the young soldier that her husband was a Marine and had been in Iraq for 11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her daughter Courtney missed her father, the young soldier began to tear up
When this temporarily single mom was done explaining her situation, all of the soldiers huddled together for a brief second. Then one of the other servicemen pulled out a military-looking walkie-talkie. They started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it.
After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney, bent down and said this to her, 'I spoke to your daddy and he told me to give this to you.' He then hugged this little girl that he had just met and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He finished by saying 'your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you more than anything and He is coming home very soon.'
The mom at this point was crying almost uncontrollably and as the young soldier stood to his feet, he saluted Courtney and her mom.. I was standing no more than 6 feet away from this entire event.
As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and looked around, there were very few dry eyes, including my own. That young soldier in one last act of selflessness, turned around and blew a kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek.
We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their families and thank God for them and their sacrifices. At the end of the day, it's good to be an American.
RED FRIDAYS ----- Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority'. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.
We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing.. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday - and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.. Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar will wear Something red..
By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.
If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever; certainly more than the media lets on.
The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is...We need your support and your prayers.
Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and wear something red every Friday.
This is Shawn.
just seen this if anyone is interested..................

Thanks Synda for reminding me about Red Fridays. I had heard this a while ago and have been trying to remember to wear red.
never heard of this. i'm going to tell everyone I know
Synda, my son to spent time in Iraq. He came home in one piece but with 30% disability. But he is home. He has been living with me since 2006 and believe me when I say that only within the last two months has he finally slept in a bed. Every morning I would get up and find him on the floor in a sleeping bag. sometimes I would peek in to check on him and he'd be sitting up in that sleeping bag, eyes wide open, but sound asleep.
I support our troops fully. Their's is a job like no other. Toby Keith's song 'American Soldier' defines it close. If you've never heard it, please listen to the words closely. I've watched my son shine his boots, I've kept his oldest for the year he was gone, and his wife.
I've watched him miss the birth of his son, his birthdays, his first words, his first steps. They miss so much so we can have so much.
God Bless Our Troops! And their families, because they also serve. Unless you've been in their shoes, you have no idea how they serve. The soldiers are trained, the ones left behind face it alone, untrained for what they will be facing. That was, I can actually say, the absolute worst year of my life. I did not leave my house for weeks, would not answer the door, the phone, I talked to no one. But one day my phone rang, and it should up as 'satelitte call', my birthday. I answered and Dale was on the other end. He asked me would I send him a few things. I told him yes, then when I hung up, thought how can I go out in public? you looked at me, I cried. I could not open my mouth to talk, I choked up and started crying. I was a mess!
But I managed to go and get the things he asked for, that was the beginning of my coping with this awful fear I had. I would wait on the calls, and then I'd go shopping. I started shopping for the whole platoon. I spent every dime I had on those boys and girls. But it was a healing for me. I sent fans, dvd players, foot spas, air mattresses, I even sent a 6' tree with the all the ornaments and lights. They asked, I sent.
Homecoming, even the captain looked for me in the crowd to thank me for adopting the 396th transportation company. In the beginning, it was just Dale's platoon, but when the 3rd I.D was sent home and Dale's company was extended for 6 months, I adopted the whole 396. I wrote Dale everyday, and I mean everyday. His wife asked me how could I write everyday? I told her, my son was not going to go to mail call and NOT have something from home. He has a pampers box full of the letters I wrote. I have a box of the letters he wrote me.
And so we survived that war. Now we are waging a different war, but we will win. The bed was the first big step! I told all my girlfriends, 'DALE SLEPT IN THE BED'!
When I first looked in and saw he wasn't on the floor, I paniced, woke up his little brother and asked where's dale?! He just calmly says, in bed, and rolls back over. I asked 'in bed where? to which he replied, in his room. I ran to look , sure enough , there he was sleeping like a baby. I quietly closed the door and said, 'Thank You God'. It was a start.
So when you pass a soldier, or you know they are a veteran, stop and meaningfully say a thank you to them. They have seen things, not even the movies can show.
God Bless Them All
I'm sorry ladies, I didn't mean to get on my soapbox again. I tend to do that when it comes to our soldiers. I am red, white, and blue ALL the way through. I may not agree with the war, but our boys and girls work for Uncle Sam, it's their job to go where he sends them. I support them! But I also hope that I don't have to send another one over there again.
Got to stop. I could write for days, and sure dont' want to tie up the thread like that. lol
But thank you for letting me soap stomp a little. Our veterans hold a special place in my heart.
God Bless You Mcrochet and God Bless Dale and all his fellow servicemen. They have my love too.
I forget how much disability Shawn has.I know he can no long wear contacts because of something that now effects his eyes if he does, his knees are bad,and he's having trouble with his one shoulder. He wasn't in the roughest part,he has military clearance and worked in the offices a lot.The FBI had to check out our entire family and friends before he could get his clearance. The FBI actually came here. But Shawnwanted to keep his Clearance so he joined the Reserves now,and still could get deployed. But Shawn had his laptop with a webcam and every night I would get on Yahoo Messenger and talk to him and I could see him on the webcam. If he was late getting on I'd panic!I did that every night until he came home. And I have saved every Email he ever sent.
You know the fear then Synda. A fear only a mother can know. How did those mothers before the internet survive between letters home?
When Dale could get in off the 'runs', and managed to get online, I could instant message with him too. That's when I started leaving my computer on 24/7 and tuned my ear to hear when he came online. wee hours of my morning, I could 'talk' with him.
It would take 14 days to get a letter and sometimes longer, depending on how long he would be away from the base over there.
Things arent' that much different over there now, you just don't hear about it on the news like you did.
Dale has lost a lot of his hearing, they told him he would be looking at knee replacement, and let's hope they don't cut the veteran's care anymore than they have done in the past. We owe them all we can give them, as some gave their all for us. The debt can never be paid to them. I still fly my yellow ribbon, and my flag. and honey you want to see my blood boil? flag a tattered flag. ask the middle school here. lol, they'll tell you how I feel about the flag. Let's just say, they now have a new American flag, and a new state flag, and they didn't have to pay for it. Now if I can just get the paint for their flagpole. lol
the fella (my age) that has given me space for my 2nd iris location is out of military on full disability. they were packing for his first tour in Iran when he dropped his end of a storage container. picked it back up, it dropped right out of his hand. come to find out all those parachute landings, something in his shoulder blade/spine region had given way. He has nerve damage to his hand. he is so peeved at "missing all the fun" as he calls it. he was master Sgt. [of course, he bought a hog/chopper. and he still has that damage, and within a months had a major wreck when he lost control in emergency manuevre, now he's all messed up. Knucklehead]
he sends care packages, anything he can think of, over to "his buddies" or his buddies' buddies, or anyone that needs them. he buys things at flea markets by the case he knows they will need. I think he's trying to keep them in toiletries and things like talcum powder all by himself. sending especially to the ones he trained.
my Dale keeps me apprised of all the tea parties and the American Eagles groups. I'm not pro-war, but I am RW&B to the end. wish my son would get with it and enlist. would be good for him.
Please don't think me bad or wrong, but I still have one son who hasn't served, and I don't want him to enlist. I have one son still in the guard and a grandson. Try not to think about it now, but the day is coming when I will get the word that they are heading out, I know. Unless their enlistment time elapses before that happens, but I doubt that. they look at those enlistment bonuses as 'easy' cash, well it's not worth a dime if you don't live to spend it is it?
I was so used to buying for boys, that when I first started shopping, I sent boxes to 'c/o any soldier and Dale's platoon address. I received a letter from a sgt. who was a lady, thanking me for the box she received because she hadn't gotten anything from her family since she'd been there. I thought, geez, I've been buying for guys, never once thought about the girls. So I shopped for the girls too. One wanted some Ambi shower gel. Well I drove all over Madison to every store looking for it, drove to LIve Oak, drove to Valdosta, Georgia, no shower gel. Went online and found they were discontinuing it, so I called the Ambi people in Texas, they still had some, so bought a whole case of it and shipped it over. Those girls were thrilled. lol
But I must tell you, when I got a letter from one requesting 'hair', I had met my match. I took the letter, (knowing Sgt. Reid's race) and went to a store that sold such. I showed the letter to the lady there and asked her to help me out. well she wanted to know what color, (I had no idea, Sgt. Reid didn't request a color) so I went with black. I asked how long this 'hair' lasted and she said maybe two weeks, depending on the 'conditions' of where she was. So I bought 6 months worth of 'hair'. I am pretty pleased with myself, and then the lady asks me if I need a lighter. I asked 'Lighter"? as in a cigarette lighter? when she says, yes, I ask what in the world for? lol,
Needless to say, I learned ALL about 'hair' over that request. The girls in the 396 had the best hair in Iraq. lol
Marilyn, my heart goes out to you.
my son needs the military. the way he lives now, oh my, so destructive. he's my only son. I trust Randall. Randall says the boy needs the training the military offers, and I believe it. It took the two of them 2 years to talk me into letting him enlist in the Marines....and then he didn't. Randall served 12 years in Navy.
it's like his dad. he trained ROTC for 2 years in Army and 1 year in Airforce, and didn't enlist in either, kinda a wannabe washout. It took me a while to realize what a bully, and coward, the man was. I want better for Danny. several of his friends enlisted, served, and changed into great young men. he didn't. can't think of any other way to put it. he needs to face that challenge and that danger so he knows what in life to value.
I understand. And I think I am very lucky that my older four 'watch' out for the younger one. they have helped me 'shape' him to what he is today. He looks up to them and respects their opinions, he does listen to them, and to me for that matter. But he also has a good head on his shoulders, seems to have always had that. And he has also been my supporting post when I needed a reason to go on.
But no matter how old he gets, he's always going to be my baby, and the baby is the hardest to watch grow up and leave home. that's one thing I haven't faced yet. him leaving home.
but all my young men have never given me any problems growing up. They were boys, they did mischievous things, but they never did malicious things. They always respected other people's property and opinions, and they still do. God knew what He was doing when He gave me these five sons. I couldn't have been more blessed.
Hello Ladies, alot of reading I had to do since this morning. All of those funky meats ya all mentioned about eating YUK. I'll stick to chick, pork and beef, Thank You. Although I did have Belgian Hare once and I loved it. There was a german resturant that we used to go to YEARS ago, it was call Schidells, I don't know how to spell it. But that was the only thing I would order and it came in a cream sauce with peas and string beans. Man it was good.
Syna, I had a lady friend that used to make my daughter and I dolls. They have been packed away for about 3 years now. While I was up at my mom's and going through my shed I came across the tote of them. Thought I'd share them with you. I thinking about turning the guest bedroom into my doll room. It was Rick's daughters room but since I moved in and my mom stays more than his daughter, I have declared that room no longer "HER" room, Ha Ha
Oh my gosh Cindy, Rhett and Scarlett! Gone with the wind! A doll room, that sounds so neat. Now one is never to old for dolls now are we? lol That room would be great. So when are you going to start? tomorrow you say?
LOL, nooooooooooooo I need to plant 80 glads bulbs, 22 Dahlias, 18 Caladiums
and get wine barrels ready for my fish.
I think I'll leave that for a winter project.
oh Lordy! "why Mr. Butler!"
Mom SOOOO wanted to name me Bonnie for the little dark haired girl in Gone with the Wind. Dad said "Bonnie Jones is too plain." she got out the baby book, and found that Bonnie was nickname for Bonita. I didn't even know I was Bonita until kindergarten! yeah, my sister is Melanie!
no thanks - I've seen that movie. all I remember was legs being cut off!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ladies I am going to bid you all a good night. 4:30 comes early, and my bus is down for repairs. I am driving an antique spare, so want to leave a little earlier in the morning to make sure I arrive at my first stop on time.
This bus has no seat belts. first thing my children say is, 'NO SEAT BELTS!'. I tell them no, but you will sit like you do have seat belts. They were the best today! They sang 'the wheels on the bus' all the way home. they made their own version. When I told them the wheels were off our bus, they sang , 'the wheels on our bus DON'T go round and round. I laughed , they were comical today. I told them how good they were and how it helped me to drive. I had to figure out where all buttons were located, being used to having them at my fingertips, made it a little difficult to drive at first because I had to 'find' everything I needed.
But they all got home safely, and hopefully we will have our bus back tomorrow afternoon.
So please all sleep well, and may you wake up to a gloriously beautiful day tomorrow. And when your feet hit the floor, the devil will moan, "Oh god, she's up"
good night ladies.
Cindy - you and Randall......nope, he won't eat pork, just ham.
Night Marilyn Sweet Dreams........
that goes for me too. got a new plant propagation book to put me to sleep.
Night Marilyn,
Synda, I have a baby doll still at my mom's I need to get a bed for him. I had a whole lot more dolls but gave them to my late hubby's neice because she loved them. I have 3 Gibson Girls that I will bring down also. I will take a pix of them next time I go to my mom's. They stand 22" tall, I would like to put them in a glass case. One of them is a Bride and Bridesmaid, the other is just a Gibson.
I've got some magazines that I need to read Fine Gardening and Organic Gardening so I will also say
"Good Night" ^_^
That is really cute Trisha.A lazy Gnome would be cute in there.
Great Minds think alike!
