Becky's MGs

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

Becky, do you normally nick your seeds? I forgot to do that to the ones I planted last week. I wonder if I should dig them up and do that? I planted them Friday.

and gosh, how do you keep up with all those names? =)

I cant wait to see how the yellow ones do.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Becky - cool non-MG vines! I especially like the Pipevine; never heard of it before.

Darren - Dmail me about the Pipevine. I can only keep track of requests that way. My brain just doesn't remember stuff these days with everything else going on. Or maybe my memory really is failing ...

Phyllis - Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I personally don't nick or soak my seeds unless it is something special and I only have one or two seeds of it. Most I just put in the soil where it is going to grow - be it a pot or the ground. I, too, am excited to see how the Yellow Chinese Evening Glories are going to look when in bloom. The blooms are small from what I understand.

Joanne - Thanks! Pipevines have one unfavorable characteristic. The blooms smell like rotting meat. Yeah ... nasty stuff! But I love how they look and am willing to put up with the smell. And since I garden for butterflies, it is a host plant for a butterfly I would like to woo into my yard. :-)

Here is a photo of the Hanafubuki today. This is such a pretty vine and blooms. Looks like a tear drop in the center. I just love this particular cultivar!!!

This is the first bloom in the big pot full of LYK vines. I need to remind everyone who got seeds from me of this vine that there is a high probability that it will be a cross because it does not readily produce pollen. And I am seeing that characteristic in this first bloom. Looking at this I immediately thought of Mini Rose Bar without the variegated leaves. So ... it's quite possible that it is a cross with MRB. Sure looks like it!

Off topic ...

Y'all know I am a freak for vines ... just about any kind. Here is a gift starter plant from Elizabeth. She sent me two different cultivars, but one didn't make it unfortunately. This one is Lady Lavender Passiflora. Very pretty bloom. I am growing quite a few different Passiflora cultivars from seeds shared with me from another DGer. I want some red blooming passiflora vines, so am trying to get some of those to germinate. Wish me luck!

I'm with ya on the vine thing Becky; I love them too. Great looking passion flowers. I have a couple I overwintered in our heated garage; I'm still waiting for it to be warm enough to put them outside. Will spring ever actually get here?

Joanne Ü

Joanne,. if its like Vegas it will Come and leave again repeatedly at least 3 times so for! lol~
and Becky, that memory thing is why i have a Garden map each year for my plants/bulbs, and a journal to not plant plants that did not work again!!!
:D

Mesilla Park, NM

fernman, I keep a journal also of what is where, of the fruit trees, iris, daylillies and in the order they are planted, that way I know which is which if the tags are gone... sometimes it works..lol it really throws me off when something else blooms that I didn't plant there.

Journals are good...

Hi Jo, good to see you hope spring arrives quickly for you.

Hi Becky..

Thanks y'all! I am glad I am not the only one with a bad memory. I, too, have pages I put into a Garden Journal to keep track of everything I am growing ... which is one heck of a LOT! So many plants ... so little room and time ...

Here is today's Hanafubuki. Can this one get any lovelier?!!! Now I need y'all's positive vibes to get this sucker producing some pollen so I can hand pollinate it! I seem to have this problem a lot. Must be something in the soil or lack of to cause such low pollen. :-(

First bloom on Carnevale di Venezia which happens to be an I. purpurea. I love seeing these lush vines! You can barely see the flecks of pink on this white bloom. Furture blooms should show more stripes and flecks. Love it! Thanks Sylvia for sharing this gem! :-)

I've become smitten with Clematis species. This one is called "Viticella Venosa Violacea". :-)

This is some species of Datura. Not sure which, but the blooms remind me of Dracula MG. :-)

This is one of the 5 Gulf Fritillary Butterflies that I released today. I have a huge crop of these cowpen daisies growing in my 3 tiered bed.

One of the squirrels eating breakfast. This little squirrel comes right up to me at times. Not close enough to touch me, but she is not afraid of me. Mostly curious, I suppose. I don't want to tame these wild creatures ... could prove to be disasterous for both of us down the road.

that was a nice mixture of furry friends and flowersto see before I 'hit the yard' running.

Becky, the vines on the Carnevale di Venezia look so green and lush. the clematis is gorgeous too!

have you ever seen/grown something called Cardinal Climber, Ipomoea multifida? those were part of my wintersowing seeds and the first leaves look like MGs. supposed to be great for hummingbirds

Sweet pix Becky. Love your fuzzy squirrel friend. Ü

Found this one growing among my cottage garden plants. Probably I. hederacea. Not sure how a seed got all the way over there. Perhaps via a squirrel or bird ...

Ditch daylilies blooming with Mums below them also just on the verge of blooming, too.

Unknown Daylily bloom. I have a lot of pretty yellow blooming daylilies around my yard, but lost the tags a long, long time ago.

Oh, I am so happy it bloomed for you and true at that.. I was only able to harvest a few seeds last year before my fiasco with whiteflies. I have two seedlings going also for Fuji no Monet.. I hope they make it thru the winds here.

Very nice lillies too, I'm just now getting into daylillies, last year I put in several and hopefully they will start blooming this year, I'm getting ansy.. also, got about 20 pots of daylillies to put in this year, at wally world, they had them 1/2 off and some have buds, so I don't have to wait another year for blooms..lol

Good to see all the mgs going there, you are so lucky..

Showing the whole vine of Fuji no Monet. This is so cool that the seed grew true!!! I am excited. I want lots and lots of seeds from this one! A - you are the first on the list to receive seeds, too! :-)

Fuji no Monet is out of this world!!

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh Thank you Becky... lets hope it makes lots of seeds.. I was only able to send one or two to 3 people at DG so I'm going soon they will be around for everyone.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I happen to have a growing love of daylilies and got a few of Pammeke in a DG coop months ago. Love these colors.

Thanks, Joseph and A! The first bloom appeared to have pollen and I tried hand-pollinating it this morning when it opened. Fingers are crossed! :-) There are lots of buds on this vine, so surely I will get some seeds from it. I am NOT pruning the vines of this current window sill grow-out, just wrapping them around and around the stakes. :-)

yes, keep feeding it too.. I potted up over 100 three gallon pots of mg seedlings yesterday. I still need another 50 pots to go, but my back can't take two days straight potting.. so, I need to go shopping for more potting soil..lol for tomorrow.. this is crazy.. but, I did manage to stake all of the ones from yesterday, this morning. I have several crosses going too, so this should be an interesting year for me.. I'm not getting as good germination results as I would have liked, but, we have to roll with the punches.

I've had this one to keep me company.. I. indica from a California nursery, it is alot darker than the one I used to have there.

Where are you putting all those pots, A? I have about 25-30 MGs growing right now and I can't imagine having any more at one time. Since I work and leave in the mornings, I am hustling to get outside or inside to photograph these blooms. Unfortunately, early morning it is still darker and the photos are coming out blurry. Too dark for sharp photos. I don't like using the flash because the blooms are all washed out. :-( What a dilemma ...

Love that Indica bloom, A! Is it a perennial vine? I have seeds from you. :-)

Mesilla Park, NM

Yes, they are perrenial and the funny thing about the three I had last year and the year before, the only one that made it is the one that went thru the pot drainage holes and is in the ground. The other two in pots that were elevated did not come back. So I guess they do better in the ground in drier areas. In CA I used to have them 15 gallon pots and they still went thru the bottom and rooted everywhere they touched ground. I loved them, but DH hated them. They seem pretty controlled here and a little behaved, I won't know for sure till this year.

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh, I forgot to tell you, all the pots are outside, same place as last year. Only this time they have been outside before they got transplanted in their flats, I wanted them to get acclimated and also they already had their first and second feedings.. they are growing really fast so I decided to transplant all of them.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

A - You gotta take a photo to share with us of all your vines! Seriously, I have to see how you are growing so many together! :-) Sounds awesome!!! Beautiful photo of the I. indica. What is the red blooming plant in the background?
