Phyllis - Thanks! Glad you are enjoying my photos! Cardinal Climber is a pretty vine and petite blooms, but in my zone it gets quite aggressive and produces a LOT of volunteers. I grew it once and enjoyed it (and so did the hummers), but it sprouted everywhere as the season progressed. Probably one that should be grown in a container that is sitting over concrete in my zone. :-)
Becky's MGs
The red flowers are from a Red Bougenvilla (bougie)... I put it into the ground and will see if it comes back next year, hopefully it likes the area, it also climbs, I want to make it go around the windows and meet at the top of the rock wall... there are so many colors they come in. When I get myself settled somewhat, I'll take photos, it may be a couple of weeks. I've got to get the cactus garden in the back in and I've got to do that before it gets too hot here, gives the roots a chance to settle in the ground. There are several cactus pots that need to go in that have been in pots since we moved from CA to NM, so it is time they go in, they have been getting acclimated in the area they will be planted for these past two years, so I know they will make it there.
You all are doing great though, some very pretty unique flowers going around.. just keep isolating the ones you like and we can preserve that flower for next year.
Becky, the package (cardinal climber) said it was NOT invasive, but my Dad said the same thing as you did. I was going to put mine at the corner of the old shed that we keep lawn equipment in, but maybe I need to re-think that. and give the rest away. Ive got another 60 pots of wintersowing.....i cant keep all of them.
Does JMG transplant easily? I bet i put 10-12 in a 3 gallon pot and was counting on being able to transplant them ok.
whats your experience?
thanks for sharing pictures.
We have Cypress Vines sprouting everywhere. They are a weed here and I never planted them either! I`m constantly pulling them and disengaging them from my other vines. :)

Good with the Fuji No Monet. Mine are progressing in the F2 to more conformity and less segregating into other other colors with and without spokes.
Mine has gone form a 1/3 true to 1/2 of them being true. In time improvements will be made for those seeking flowers that look all the same.
The fuji no monet that I grew last year, all the flowers looked like Becky's, so, hopefully they won't revert to whatever they were before.. it will be great to get it going and not lose this strain.. I've not seen it for sale again either, I wonder if she ran out of seeds, or is growing more? Either way, I'm glad we all have some.
I'm growing the white cypress vine, pink, and red from Onalee's, she sent so many neat extras and I've got them all going, hopefully the winds here will go away soon! I love to hear it at night, but I hate what it does to the plants..
Becky, I got some cream yellow daylilly pots at wally world call Vanilla Fluff and it looks like a double. I sure hope to see a flower this year, the others have bloomed red, they are single though, more like ditch lillies.. I love those also.
A.
Hi Gourd, They are Fuji No Monets it is just possible they can carry for other traits and colors. If our seeds came from tasteclectic the same source then it is likely they will be similar or you got seeds that happened to conform more than mine did. I hope yours are perfect 100%.
But I have a different experience. I`m not wearing my rose colored glasses today. I seperated the Fuji No Monets from the other variations and tied blooms. Sure,I got a lot of Fuji No Monets but I grew out 30 something of them and found variations. Now we have gone from 1/3 of them being true to 1/2...now it looks like more and more conformity. Soon mine will be up to speed for trading. I`m just glad I held on to mine long enough to see if it would breed true before I gave them to anyone.
Phyllis - To transplant MGs from pot to ground requires carefully trying NOT to disturb the roots. The more the roots are disturbed, the more likely they are to die. MGs are actually pretty fragile when transplanting. Which is why I, personally, just plant seeds where I plan to keep them for growing and blooming. But I have successfully transplanted very young seedlings. I've not transplanted larger vines, so don't know how hard they are to tranplant. Good luck!
A - I look forward to your photos and seeing your garden designs around your yard.
I've had 3 blooms on Fuji no Monet and all are the same pattern. Looks like it may be a stable vine that I am growing. I hope so. This morning's bloom had tons of pollen, so of course, I hand-pollinated the bloom. I had a lot of pollen left over and only ONE other vine blooming - which is growing outside - so I cross pollinated with Hanafubuki! Wouldn't that make an interesting cross???!! Totally different colors of vine blooms and a contrast in bloom patterns too.
My Hanafubuki is not producing pollen. I have a pretty strong hunch about all this. Will share more about my idea on that topic after I see a few more indoor blooms from other cultivars to know for sure if my hunch might be on target...
Karen - Good luck getting a stable vine.
Hi Becky, The vines that are Fuji No Monet do have a stable pattern on the same vine. I haven`t seen any that go lighter or under go any drastic color changes on the same vine. All I have seen from the tasteclectic stock I purchased is possible carrying for recessives that can crop up and also lack of dominant genes being paired up to produce 100% conformity.
That is not to say yours will be the same. Yours could be paired up and not need any work at all. Mine will take another 2 or 3 generations.
I can't believe you are growing Clematis now. I didn't think it would even grow here. Used to love them when I lived in NJ.
I love this thread! You aren't seeing any from me as we have had winds above 40mph for months now..............usually they end in April but there is no sign of letting up, so I will have only summer and fall MGs.......All my outside plants are going bye bye.
Even my 30+ hoya baskets have been blown so hard on the front porch they have pulled out the biggest screws from the hardy plank and plywood from the ceiling and smashed them on the Mexican tile floor. So..........the month of May will be getting rid of every single hanging basket on the front porch and any plant outside that can't take our spring winds.
Thanks for the 'show' you have given us Becky and yes, I love the woman from Scotland and the two children who sang after her.........both the little boy and the incredible 10 year girl.
Simon Cowell, I am told, is already planning to manage the lady's musical career.
Becky loving all the updates.. raining so much here, had to drill holes in the new wine barrells out back to keep from drowning everything, all the water bottle plantrs are in the ground or hanging in the rose and honey suckle trellis on the porch awaiting their spots along the fence.. I had two kinds of seeds that LOOKED the same.. chilean jasmine, was one, and lavender moon vine was the other, so I plantd them one on each side of the front porch trellis, in two days I have huge sprouts, but they look the same.. hmm love cardinal vine and cypress vine in the shrub hedge and the lilac shrub after they quit blooming.. been running around pulling up volunteer mg sprouts everywhere from last years grow outs. cameo elegance and minibar rose are up.. I am about to lose my beautiful audrey hepburn rose so I pulled her out of the rain bogged clay sod and moved her to be with Golden Eagle and Angel Face.. all my loniceras are leafing out, john clayton is really kicking into gear as is the pink and blue wisteria *sigh* I love spring, but this rain is bogging me down.. keep posting pictures so I can get some ideas from you
So glad y'all are enjoying this thread! Lots to talk about and lots of photos to share!
gardenpom - I am growing 3 different Clematis. The other 2 haven't bloomed yet. Will share photos when they do!
Sorry to hear about the wind and rain that some of you are experiencing. Hopefully the weather will clear up for ya soon!
Here is today's bloom from Fuji no Monet. I just love this color and pattern. Makes my heart stop when I first see it each day!
More beautiful blooms Becky.
Beautiful Becky!!!! You really are the Queen of Vines!
Good luck with your cross. With parents like that it will be lovely! You are the best plant Mom around so they will certainly thrive. :)
The clematis is wonderful! Karen
becky, love that pink.. it is to die for!
This is another clematis I am growing. It is called "Ernest Markham". I love the red color! I, too, was surprised that these would grow well in my zone and yard. That's why I try everything once, cause you just never know! :-)
BTW - I was told that certain cultivars of Clematis will do fine in my zone as long as I keep them watered regularly. I have some aggressive Sweet Autumn Clematis growing in pots. I hope they finally bloom this year. I got them from a DGer as small seedlings. So it is true that Clematis WILL grow here! Much to my delight!
Oh my, I love the way the tipsy pots look. I've got company coming so I've got to sign off, but will come back later.
Great shot of Fuji no Monet...
A.
Beautiful MG. Are there any cats that feed on your Clematis, Becky?
Not any that I know of because I haven't seen any bite marks, so ... I think these vines are for sheer enjoyment and looks like the MGs! :-)
You are so welcome and I think you will get a lot of seeds, it has a lot of pollen.. Keep using the extra pollen on other MGs that don't have any pollen. That is one of the way's you can ensure that the cross too.. god only knows what it will look like, but, if you are like me, you will love whatever you get. I think it is great.. I am anxious for mine to grow... these winds here are almost done and I hope real soon too because they are so darned strong.
I've been looking inside the Indica and it has no pollen anthers at all, I am thinking that is why it never makes seeds. It needs different cultivars of I. indica to be able to get pollen off of. Then again it could be the wind drying everything out. I had 3 varieties in California so that explains how I got all those seeds. I'm hoping that with the two I have now maybe I can supply some pollen. Who knows?
I like your clematis, I had a couple here last year but it is too darned hot and they did not come back this year.
