What's happening in your spring garden #4

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Okay guys. Can anyone give me a proper spelling for this. I know it sounds like DIE-EE--DES

I'm relatively certain it's " Dye-ET-teez".

It used to be called Moraea iridioides.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

However you say it, it sure is pretty!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I have the pronunciation, I just don't know how to spell it. Can anyone help with that?

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Also, I'll have some of these for the RU in October.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Dietes is the spelling of the genus, not sure what species you have.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Really pretty flower.
WIB!
SW

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thank you soils.

Let me know if you want any of these SW. I can bring as many as anyone at the roundup may want. Have lots that will meed to be removed for dividing by fall. That goes for anyone that's going to our RU in Oct.

SK, I just saw the picture of your granddaughter, what a beauty and I love that shot you got, oblivious to the world.
I love the name Hannah.
Everyone's blooms are wonderful, they're sure winding down here except the irises, almost peak bloom! Yea!
SW, when you're up to it, we can meet at the garden, anyone else?!?!!?!??

Sue, what a beautiful combination!
I'll have to look that last plant up---I love the blues!!!

A blue ajuga with golden Angelina sedum intermingling! A self seeded silver euphorbia and a deep red Brown Velvet rose included in the picture.

I did a large trade with another DGer last fall, daylilies for iris. Here's the first one, Spirit Mountain. It's actually an even deeper purple than shown here as this was with a flash. It's in the center if the bed shown above so you can see how dark it really is.

Digger's Speedwell is absolutely one of my favorite plants, I picked up a second for the other end of this bed and am looking for another one now. The leaves look like small grayish eucalyptus leaves, drought tolerant plant too but looks better with a bit of supplemental water.

I cropped one of the bed shots, you can see the plant to the left side here.

That columbine is gorgeous! I've never seen one that color before.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Here's some yellow to contrast that deep purple columbine.

Oh well that columbine pic didn't turn out very well. Maybe the Gazania will be better.

That yellow one is nice, too!

The fountain grass is poking it's hair back up after the winter shearing.

The perennial sweet pea will just about bowl you over with fragrance. With the right breeze, you can smell them from 50 ft. away.

What a great time of year for photenia.(sp) The blossoms and the red 'new' growth.

Great pics, love the gazanias, almost as much as Arctotis and Osteoporums

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I love the fact that they're evergreen and incredibly hearty even in poor soil conditions.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Sue the osteoporums of yours, the black-eyed ones are just dazzling. I absolutely love them. I have a white one with variegated foliage. A friend gave it to me, first one I'd seen.

I guess I should have included the picture.

OK, that speedwell's on my list. Thanks!
DP, my cannas are still just barely showing leaves; I'm amazed you're getting buds already!

imapigeon: That's only on the Red ones. My Tropicannas aren't even close. My yellows are a little ahead of the Tropies but still not close to the reds.
