YAY! Me first!
That cake looks lovely. Think I'll make a "Waldorf Red Cake" for my DIL's birthday. They're coming to celebrate mine on the 11th, but hers is on the 12th!
Is a Waldorf Red cake similar to Red Velvet?
Save a slice for me Cookie.
Ooooo did someone say B'day Celebration? Don's is tomorrow... but he has to work... DARN... so, we'll do something on Thursday while he's off... don't know what yet... but maybe no more than go to Mike's track meet together... then, maybe go out for dinner.
Maybe I should bake him a cake though... might do that if I feel nice Wednesday.
I didn't say feel "good"... I said feel "nice"... I haven't felt very NICE lately.
Does Waldorf Red Cake have anything to do with walnuts?
Don't matter what it is called, all the cakes sound good! Pass the plate please?
Happy Birthday Don! Have a great day!
LK
OH yum, Rick made a chocolate cake day before yesterday, I've had 2 small pieces ^_^
Did some googling, seems as though Waldorf Astoria Red cake is similar to Red Velvet cake.
Here's the recipe to Waldorf. Adding walnuts to the frosting will be yummy.
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 ounces red food coloring
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon baking soda
5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
Cream together the shortening, sugar, and eggs.
Make a paste with food coloring and cocoa. Add to shortening mixture.
Add salt and buttermilk to mixture.
Next add flour, vanilla, vinegar, and baking soda in that order. Mix.
Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) in two 8 inch round greased and floured cake pans. Let cool.
To Make Frosting: Cook 5 tablespoons flour and 1 cup milk until thick, and then cool.
Cream together 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 1 cup butter or margarine and 1 teaspoon vanilla 'til fluffy. Add to flour mixture.
Cut layers of cake in half lengthwise. Spread frosting on each half layer. Stack and frost over all.
Hi everyone! I got home from the hospital about 5:00. They found no blockages. I had quite a bit of bleeding, though, and a lot of pain, so I had to stay over night. They gave me demoral twice. I don't know why my knee hurt so bad! I was in tears!
The knee replacement surgery is set for the 24th. I'll be glad to get that over with!
I'm going to bed, now! Good night!
Ok, I found my way here this time.
Here you are.....!!
A long day at the hospital, but much better than I had expected! Jackie and I have set up crafting in CCU...she is knitting and I'm doing clay...have phone access and computer connection so we are good to go.......will be a bit rough tomorrow....they are going to try to remove the breathing tube again.....they took it out earlier in the week but his throat started to close up again about 16 hours later.....once they get his lungs and breathing cleared up he will be able to go straight into rehab.......so my other SIL and niece are coming over this weekend, Laura and I are here during the week...we will all rotate to keep Jackie company until things improve.....at least you will know where I am when I'm not here....
Hi...
Trisha and Laura, Keeping you both in mind and prayers. Lots going on for you.
Laura, my gosh, Thank you...would have never thought insomnia!! LOL beats the day lights outta mid life, roflol, tho, that is not ouruled.
Marion, lol, I was thinking as I told my DD#1 Julia, ok I got 5 minutes to change!! hahahah!
I do rather hope it is just insomnia, it's just weird to me for it to be happening.
BJ...Been there on the anger thing. I am glad you and Jaye got to "battle" the thoughts in conversation, best to get it out.
...Almost wish I was there, lol love a good argument now and again.
..went for my eye exam, was ok perscript changed a slight bit..I hate insurance! (not to make anyone mad) but it does s**** cuz i pay big!,we all do
OMG...Jaye, lol, you are too funny..more like PG since it is Easter as well.
...We will enjoy ourselves and well roflol, anyone can use their imaginations, right,?lol.
As long as I am able to attend Mass, (with the family is even better) am happy!
Sigh, it is only 8:30, i am exhausted, Walked about 2.5 miles today, but i happened to find the most prettiest Windchime for my buddie, I would like it! so I hope she wil as well...Just love store hopping(sometimes).
Well...told yuz all my news for now. hopefully I can sleep tonight! LOLOL, man i blab way too much, it's now 8:40!
Good to see you, hope your all well.
Well it has been very quite here. I've been all over DG looking for anyone to talk to. :( Couldn't find anybody.
So many missing, What is UP!!
Stacey, Kathy, Debra, Deborah,
Hope you all are alright.
Good night ladies. I am still trying to catch up ith myself from the trip. I take to the Dr. in the morning for his heart monitor, then back again Thursday for the results.
LK
Dang... this is scary... no chatter at all this week...
Let's see... Trisha's at the hospital, Cody has her son tonight, LK went to bed, so did Judy... so, where's everyone else?
I sure hope you're all getting a good night's sleep since you're taking those minerals now... I know I'm ready for bed, and fixin to go there...
Gonna get horizontal and watch The Universe till I fall asleep... shouldn't take long...
Nighty Night.
Well, I have been trying to get some thing done around the house today as I have one last meeting regarding the festival on Thursday evening. Then my life will be my own again until late February, March 2010. Actually someone new has volunteered to help with the vendors so it should not be so hectic for the next one. Hope so.
Kim is on Spring Break and we have been trying to "downsize" some things now that we have lived in the same house together for a few years. Have a much better idea of what we will and won't be using.
Trisha, my prayers for you and your family. Know I am here and you are in my thoughts.
BJ, you could have kept this cold weather!!! I am oh so ready for it to be nice and warm--not hot but warm. I want to dig in the dirt, get dirty, messy and just enjoy being outside. Glad you and Jaye had a chance to "rant" together. Now all our problems have been solved. Right? LOL
Judy, I am sure it is just insomnia--you are way to young for a midlife crisis. Personally, glad it have been there, done it and over it!!! Ahhh, the joy.
Linda Kay understand about the trip being so long. We were dealing with Spring Breakers on Interstate 75 which really made it stressful driving. As if all the construction wasn't bad enough there was bumper to bumper traffic.
Tina from MB, did notice you posted earlier. Have missed you--what have you been up to?
Cindy, you are going to have one really nice yard when all is finished. Lucky you having someone to help with the work.
Well sending a big hug to all I missed--but I am headed to bed. Still tired from the long weekend and driving.
Sleep well everyone.
I'm back, have Sage, finishing up dinner.....lost our ball game.....
He he he.. you shouldn't have reminded us of those minerals BJ!
Did some work this evening after supper, and now we're ready for bed! Right on cue!!!
Judy, try the mineral journey.. you've nothing to lose but maybe 20 bucks! Keep having imsomnia, and you know you'll be always feeling too tired to do anything in the daytime. OMG... and heavens forbid!! You'd turn cranky on Steve!!!
Good news indeed Audrey. So, you won't have any complications when it comes to your heart during your knee surgery.
Trisha, I am sure your SIL is very grateful to you and Laura for the company. Wish we are all living close to each other, and we all can be in the crew as well. In the meantime, we will uplift you and your family in prayers.
BTW, I hope you'd attract some potential customers for your clay faeries.
Well Cindy, apparently some are very very busy. Debra for one has the RU. That takes a lot of organizational skills and time.
Wondering if Phyllis has returned...
Deborah's attention is constantly on her grandchild..
Wishing all the best for your dad, LK.
So.. I'll bid you all goodnight, and see you all in the a.m.
Well go to bed as soon as i get on.
Good night Jaye, sorry i'm just getting on.My baby was fighting his sleep. He just went to sleep.
Lolol Cody.. okay I'm here for you now!
OOooooooops.. there goes me brains!!!!
Marion, I failed to add that Kel and I took upon BJ's "rant" further this evening!! Think there's no appeasement to this "rant" as long as there are intelligent opinions!!
Good night Jaye, I wish we all lived closer together too.
I did enjoy spending time with Jackie today....she is Bill's youngest sister and we were never very close.....we had a good time talking today and agreed that the family needs to get back together again.....everyone sort of drifted apart after my FIL passed.....so while this accident was very serious, some good may come of it.....HE works in mysterious ways.
Don't stay up too late Cody.......
I will most likely be back at the hospital tomorrow so I will probably turn in early tonight...
Jaye,if you want to go to bed i understand.
That is NOT UGLY.It is PRETTY.
That's the same thing. The middle has already fell off.
Good night Trisha.
Nope, the middle isn't as full. That plant is right next to the doorsteps, so I won't miss a thing!! Just disappointed with the color, but I still love it!
I like that one.I will have to find it.I'm glad you have your camera going.
Well we will have to find us a real yellow one.I still think it's cute.
There are some deeper yellow ones, but sold in Australia. Now all we need is a lilac or purple camellia, Cody :D
Poor Alex, glad he finally settle down. Must be rough juggling his time between you and 'him'.
Did Kel,get his tummy full when he ate.HEHEHE
Remind me in June, to try to propogate camellias, please.
I'll definitely take cuttings of Sarah Bernhardt. Tomorrow morning, we'll be at Lowe's, maybe they'll have camellias on sale.
Those are pretty!!!! And yes I am definitely on the Mineral Program!!
I will be off and on for awhile, still have to finish NCIS and Dancing With The Stars!!
You heard his tummy growled, didn't ya??? Well, he was hungry for bacon, grits and eggs... all the cholestrol stuffs. Maid M.. don't read this!!
Cody, say goodnight.. you need your rest, Alex will want his mama all to himself tomorrow!!
Yea Jaye, that baby is so confused with him going here and there.I just which it would change.
I will remind you in June.
Yes,i heard it.
Ok Mama Jaye,good night.
Trisha.. I followed DWS for one episode!! And for NCIS, I just watch the reruns...
so far the 'wrong' minerals are helping my moods too.
Cody, stick to your guns. Keep being a good mama, and let him make his mistakes. You already have the court on your side ;)
See you all tomorrow.. sleep well..
Good night again, sweet ladies!
