Didn't know about the holes in the butter ball! Ours doesn't have them. I do change the water often, too.
What do you collect... besides plants?
lol
Dana-
on a more serious note, red stuff WILL stain your teeth! I am "retired" from dentistry, and can give you a big long explanation, but in effect colored liquids DO stain your teeth.
Coffee is a big culprit, but sodas are the worst, because of the combination of dark color, extreme amount of sugar(which does feed bacteria), and the acidity level of colas, that break down your teeth enamel
Thank goodness for carbamide peroxide!!(the tooth bleach) gel, lol.
I just thought of another collection:
...my house collects dust, lol...
Oh, yes, I have dust bunnies! And parrot fluff!
here, i will give you a way out. You're not the collector, it's the HOUSE, that collects the dust. lol
The Butterbell is great.
I remember them being very popular in the 80's. I also used to make cheese bells. The cheese sat in the middle of the plate and the bell sat over it. Cheddar cheese was kept this way. Some of my customers used to drape a cheesecloth soaked in vinegar over the cheese with the bell on top to keep flies off.
I even made Melitta mugs. I'll see if I can find a picture
Yes! I do remember those. I saw a strange glass dish at a garage sale MANY years ago...I was just a pre-teen then, and I couldn't figure out what it was used for...
It was an old clear glass square dish that had raised glass ridges on the bottom and a clear lid.
She explained that you pour vinegar in the bottom, and that the cheese rested just above the vinegar, on the ridges, and that is how you kept your cheese...
I think I bought it just because I thought that was neat...Wonder what ever happened to that thing..
It looked just like this, but square.

Man, at that price I REALLY wish I knew where I put it, lol
wowzers, go find it girl..
for what kind of cheese would you use it. i don't see many roundies, and little roundies at that
i do have a cheese bell . but i thought it was a tiny cake thing lol
DH would kill me if I got vinegar near his cheese!
Dana-
your hubby will be so happy now that you've figured out what to do with your cake thingy!, lol...
Nery-check it!

i love vinigar and fresh mozzarella . some times it comes a bit tangy but i put more .
yeah...vinegar with your cheese, doesn't sound to appetizing to me, either, but I guess that is the only way they had back then
haha thats cool. and it stands up !
oh, but more importantly...it is RED...her favorite color :0)
Wouldn't bother me, but DH loves his cheese and hates vinegar (except balsamic).
my mom cleans the bathroom with vinegar . and i love vinegary things so i hate to smell that smell coming from the bathroom .
I bow to you, Taylor, research hound extraordinaire. I thought I was good, but u have me beat hands down. I think the link is foreign, but it won't be long til it gets to BB&B. Good job girlie. I have reached the end of my collection. Need nothing else....except if I can find a red cheese bell.

They used to make cheddar in huge wheels and you bought a wedge , thats beck when I was little late 30's
I used to find small wheels and cheese was cheap then too.
Here are two colages. The first one has a gargoile in it that used to peek above the bushes at the edge of the sidewalk.
The rest of the pieces are from the 80's when I made clay with wood accents.
Tray table, lamp w/wood neck and a cheese serving plate.

here is a red butter bell lol . i was looking to buy dh one
you guys are a riot
I am really laughing like crazy
GE, first of all, those are AWESOME. I adore the tray table and the veg. steamer.
Dana, another research maven, I see. I don't have a red butter crock. how am I ever going to complete my collection if you gals keep showing me stuff?
Ge-
fantastic pottery! I love the Melitta stuff. Very pretty, and nice glazing!
I've never seen a steamer like that...that is neat!
That is sad someone stole your piece...
Dana-
I purchased from that company a few years back, when I was on the butterbell binge. I bought the minis, so that during the holidays, everyone's place setting could have THEIR OWN, lol...I also bought those mini salt and pepper thingys, so everyone didn't have to pass the salt and pepper, lol...
here are the minis:

that company doesn't make them with the holes, though...

I collect music boxes. I have over 80 - some are new, old, cheap, expensive and some are made.
Alot have been given to me for Christmas, birthday, etc. I love each and every one of them. I have been collecting forever - every since the 60's. When I go on vacation somewhere special I try to buy a music box in that area. Example, we went to NY City - got a NY music box - went to San Franciso - got a music box with San Francisco on it. I alway try to get songs I don't have. It is fun.
Mary D.
I have fond memories of my grandmother's music box. It was the old-timey kind that you crank the handle and put in metal "records" with the holes all in them
do you have that kind?
I had a tiny ballerina music box/jewelry box as a kid...
My mom had one that played "younger than springtime." I used to sit in her room and play it when I was a little girl. I still love that song.
Kaper - you reminded me of something when you said that you had memories of your mom's music box and recall playing with it as a child.
My mom had a purse --it was made from plastic I guess...tortoise shell coloration (??) Dark brown with I think golden swirls. It had a handle made from the same material. I was fascinated with that purse -- I wonder what happened to it...
She also had a cross...with a little clear 'bubble' in the center.. if you held it to the light and looked into it you could read the entire Lord's Prayer! I saw that cross years later and the tiny paper holding the prayer (I am assuming it was paper) was just dust laying at the bottom of the bubble. I'd forgotten those two things..thanks for the reminder!
that cross sounds really neat!
They're selling those crosses on TV here!
Mom also had a little ring box - just a few costume things and a ring from my dad's mother that had a broken topaz stone in it. The cut of the stone was flat on top and it cracked. It is filigree gold and I just loved it. I would sit and listen to the music and play with the rings. Now that ring sits on the ring finger of my left hand with a new stone that won't break! She and my dad were so pleased I wanted it for my wedding ring. It is showing wear, but I will leave it to one of my sister's kids and maybe another little girl will play with it some day.
Nice memories, aren't they? Wonder if Mom still has that little box.
seedpicker_TX, No I don't have a music box with little records. They are very unique and are very expensive. Go on E-Bay and you will be shock at the prices. Everyone is talking about memories. I use to go into my Great Aunts living room where she had all kinds of what/nots. It was no touchy or else. She had two music boxes that I was drawn to. After she died I got one on them.
I let my granddaughters play with some of mine. Maybe they will have pleasant memories playing them like each of you are discribing above.
Mary
I hope so, Mary!
I knew it was special, and when she died, everyone fought over it...literally!
But then then will was read...but it caused hard feelings to the siblings that weren't the one listed in the will
They all had very scentimental attachments to it...
Great ring story and so wonderful to use as wedding ring.
Are the crosses on TV small. Mom's was no more than 2 - 2.5 inches tall. That tiny bubble was very tiny! That is why I was so fascinated about how the entire prayer was contained in there.
I have costume jewelry from mom and sisters. Pieces I too remember playing with as a child. Nothing I would wear now and some missing parts and pieces, etc., I just turn into Christmas ornaments and they sparkle away on the tree and hold a lot of memories.
Vossner Williams-Sonoma carry alot of red kitchen gagets. Pricey but they do have sales. http://www.williams-sonoma.com/
O I got so excited shopping for Vossner that I forgot to put down what I collect. As alot already know, I collect lists and keep them all in the Great Book of Lists.
What sort of lists are in your list book?
Besides many, many chapters of gardening related lists, there are chapters on things like food, articles to write, experiments to conduct, stupid laws, books, story ideas. There is also a dictionary in which I have corrected all the words that are spelled wrong in the existing dictionarys, red-lined ridiculous words and replaced them with better words. Some of my oldest and favorite lists are:
Things that Hate Me
Magic That Happened
Things Not to Do (EVER)
Important Correspondence to Write (My fav from when I was 7or so - Walt Disney because he killed Bambi's mother)
