we didn't get as much rain as they said yesterday.... supposed to get some today though... 46 now and going up to 53
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 43
Raining now. A nice soaking rain without wind.
We have been getting a very nice mix of sun and rain recently. It's raining here right now, too. DH hasn't had to water the beach plum trees he put out at all so far, which is a huge time-saver, and my early spring veggies are very happy in my garden.
Rain all night & lighter rain now--the winds sounded ok.
Raining and cool. My better half is fishing as it's opening day for Trout. I think he's nuts but....I'll be driving down to South Jersey in this. Yippee. The rain is good for the plants so I'm not complaining too much.
gaddict, maybe you could visit some of those nurseries while you're down there ;)
what is a tad
overcast and 39 here - need to get going
tad = smidgen
Rain rain go away, we have a b-ball game to attend...it's supposed to clear out by 1pm...we'll see.
Raining and 44.
Pouring again. Raw day not nice and the wind is picking up. Patti
slow start to the day going out now just misting and raw - good day to plant and transplant
Well it's 1:37 still raining the daughter and I stayed home...not into hanging out at a b-ball stadium to see if the rain stops.
Pouring here. I don't blame you, Jen. Nothing worse than sitting there in the rain, only to end up going home anyway. 41 degrees.
Raining non stop all day, lots of flooded streets. Patti
Raining here, too. We did our big dinner at noon, then an indoor egg hunt, then dessert with a bunny birthday cake for my DIL that my 2 granddaughters helped frost. It was - UMMM, interesting. Now, everybody has gone home. Sure is quiet.
We're just waiting for everyone to come--supposed to get here at 4:30----rained all day--41 deg.---am sick of this! I want sun!
High 40's and SUN. No riding lessen today for DD because of rain yesterday. Hope to be out in the garden later.
We're in the mid 40's with full sun, and a little wind.
Temp dropped to 47.... game was canceled so they got rain check tickets.
Getting brighter now.
Still pouring. 41 and starting to blow a bit. I am staying inside tonight, worried about my poor new Japanese maples that I planted yesterday. Dumb. Patti
Statement as of 4:52 PM EDT on April 11, 2009
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM EDT this evening.
This advisory is for Nantucket Island. Northeast winds will shift
to north this evening and increase... with sustained winds exceeding
30 mph. Gusts may approach 50 mph. Seas on the nearby ocean south and
east of Nantucket will rise to at least 10 feet this evening.
If the area is well-drained, no need to worry, Patti. I always plant mine high.
Patti, I'm wishing good luck to you and your new tree's!
Last week we had torential rains but they said the winds would be out of the East blowing 10-15 mph with some gust reaching 25. They lied!
We had gust of 50-60 mph and the rain saturated the ground so much that the stakes to my mini GH became loose. The only thing that stopped it was the handle of my wheel barrow as it pierced it and wedged it (GH) between the house and plow truck.
Victor, Yes well drained , but what do you mean "always plant mine high" The trees or you? How high and why? The trees, not you. I took off any suckers that I found below the graft. Anything else I should have done? You got me started with this mess, then Wha did my in, so I need help. Thanks.
Pouring more, where is the ARK?
Pixie, that is what I am afraid of, higher than expected winds. You got nailed. I took 10 rose bushes that I have had in the GH since planting them bare rooted in Feb, outside yesterday to start getting them ready to plant. They are going to be blown to bits as will the new maples. Sad. My endless stream is overflowing. Patti.
Both!^_^ Mounding up the soil is the best thing for improving the drainage. I do that in all the relatively flat areas. If I plant on a slope or a raised bed, I don't bother. Three or four inches is more than enough.
patti i always plant them in a raised bed because of the clay here - or as victor says on a slope.
that bloodgood i lifted last weekend was in a raised bed until i raised the front of it more and then it was in a depression and suffered from "wet feet".
you will love your jm's - this batch is only the beginning:)
Supposed to go down to 30 tonight. Brought in all the leafed out stuff still in pots.
forgot about it getting cold tonight - need to go rescue some plants.
Even colder tomorrow night - about 25! Where is SPRING???
In the mattress, Victor, in the mattress.
sorry to hear about the GH Pixie... that's the reason I haven't gotten a setup like that yet.. I am afraid of that happening to all the babies I cared for this long
34 now going up to 51.... looks like the temps are getting better this week
39 here now with a good breeze, but not a gale. Last night it was blowing a good 30 to 40, but not over 50mph here. Sun is out through some high clouds. Patti
29 with blue sky's this morning and windy
going out to try and get a couple things done before the feast
Sunny here also. And windy.
Happy Easter all!
