Patti.... so far I've only figured out what "group" of primulas that one belongs to. It shouldn't be a true annual though. They say the ones in that group can be "touchy" perennials, but actually hardy to zone 5.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Congrats on the seedling. I just dont have the patience but admire it in others.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

beautiful shots all

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

My lemon lime four o'clocks are actually sprouting, thought they were gonners. I trimmed some things outside when it got fairly warm a couple weeks ago, but then it got cold again....hope I didn't killl too much! My red rosa rugosa doesn't look too happy.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The sun is just coming up on another nice day.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice pictures shelly and congrats on the hellebore!!

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

Beautiful hellebore. What patience you must have! What time of year do you plant those?

I had to share this picture. I have a feeder that has a squirrel baffel, so heavy squirrels and birds can't get to the seeds and clean me out. This starling figured out how to sit with his butt just right so if he eats backwards he can keep the baffel from dropping and he can eat all he wants. Clever, these birds!

Arent they the worst?
Fat slobs,If they werent so chubby they could get to the food and load up more.
I guess if I starved between meals and had theit metabolism I'd eat like that too.

Victor, or anyone else with Clematis expertise,

I have some Clematis questions. I have 6 plants in 4 inch pots that I bought in the co-op sitting under lights in my unheated porch that warms up during the day. Do I need to harden them off? When can I safely plant these out? Should I prune them back, some are about 12 inches tall with buds now?
I'd appreciate any advice I can get as I am new to Clematis.

Dyane

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

onewish1, nice fat bulbs and congratulations on getting down and dirty. I only strolled around for a few minutes today as I think it not wise to stay out in the damp and cool weather we are having while I am still under the weather. I need sun!

Here is reticulated Iris histrioides 'Frank Elder'. Patti

dyane as long as you can dig a hole you can plant - and in the first couple years it is good to trim them down - every one trimmed means two more shoots coming up

Love the red, wha.

Patti, LBS is a beauty!

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

Oooo, that blue on the iris just pops! Cool crocus! Pretty soon everyone will be going "daffy". I have doubles that the previous owner planted that come up faithfully. The buds on all are getting fat and happy, only a couple more weeks I'm thinkin'.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks all!!!. I'm looking forward to seeing more of that plant! Love the happy dance Jan!

Jo Ann, that 'oh wait, I do..." comment was great! I really don't have the patience for pampering seeds either or waiting until they get flowering age. However, if the hellebores and bees do their work to make seeds, spread them around, and they happen to sprout, as was the case with this one, I'm more than happy to water and fertilize it! You can't beat a free plant! Just this season I have started to tinker around with cross pollinating a little, to hopefully get more seeds from some of the more colorful ones. However, they will likely still be on their own when it comes to germinating.

Drumlin.... that bird has no manners! Nice pics! Early in Fall is probably the best choice for planting hellebores, spring is second best.

It looks like your hard work is paying off there Bill! they're coming along great.
Patti, those iris are beautiful. So vibrant!

Allison, that pic is the sign of a true gardener! Nice work.

Dyane, Nice crocus! It goes very well with the bee!!

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

RC, what are you trying to hybridize?? That's very cool.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

RC you have no idea how good it felt to dig in soil outside and not feel cold hard chunks

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I bet that it was a great feeling Allison! You know that spring is very close!

Thanks Drumlin. Just hellebores. I know that 'hybridize' would be the technically correct term. But, I really look at it as I'm just trying to brighten some colors. But, who knows what I'll get from it!! Could be interesting! Could be nothing I ever wanted. We shall see..................

I started a diet in January(late) and am down 16 pounds. Its very slow going because of the meds I'm on but it has made gardening easier, not planting yet but just bending over to photo and check for emerging hostas (none yet) etc.
Blood sugar was main cencern, its much better too
Love the beni kawa Bill I am so Jonzin for one in a place DD wont let go of.
