C would be perfect for iris!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

And this is what they did in the secret garden... I forgot about having them build a step to the middle level... so, that's what I'm doing today, before I break a leg or something.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

some coreopsis would look good in bed d, maybe some echies in bed b

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Stacey... Beds A, B, and C are all in full shade all summer... well, bed C might get some morning sun, but that's about it. I have Hydrangeas up next to the house, and was thinking maybe some hostas in front of them.

Bed D, on the other side of the house is full sun all afternoon, from about noon on to night.

The echies I bought in your coop will go in the secret garden where they'll get plenty sun... I already have a place for ready for them.

Oh, and I am not an IRIS lover... sorry, Bonnie... I just can't like the knives that stick up out of the ground after the blooms are gone...

Hello everyone!!!!I hope everyone enjoys their day.

Jaye,i enjoyed talking to you earlier.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL-I love iris too:) Ok, so all my ideas suck except maybe the coreopsis idea!!LOL

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

hosata are OK, but for a foliage shade lover, I would take heuchera any day-but I LOVE lots of color!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I see a tall rose tree somewhere in there BJ, or some daylilies, if you don't care for irises. On 2nd thoughts, dl have spear like leaves too.
Of course hostas for the shady part.. and how about a camellia for winter blooms.

Hi there Stacey!!! Any more thoughts to the Dahlia? I had asked my quilt buddies at the store, and they all say that's a lot of curve piecing/appliques for a newbie. You might be 'burnt' out too soon. But they don't know you!

Anytime you called, is always a happy time Cody! Take care of yourself now.. if you feel 'it' coming, you can hang up anytime. I understand.

Well the rain has stopped, so my plans for today has just been delayed a bit. Off to the box store.. get some bags of soil for repotting.
See me later everyone!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hello everyone!! I went MIA for a day and look how far behind I got! LOL

Dave was wound up like an 8 day clock yesterday so we went to the grocery story, upgraded his cell phone (now I have to upgrade mine and I wanted a Palm but his LG Vu is so cool I'm undecided,) and we put up a new ceiling fan, which took a good portion of the day.

Jaye,i would ever hang up on you."NEVER"but i would have to put the phone down. Thanks some much for understanding though. So please don't ever think that i would hang up on you because that is just not me.It would just take me a few mins to be a self again. So just bare with me at times like that and we are on the phone.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Jaye... DL have a more graceful foilage... I do like DL, and have several... there's already some orange ones in bed D... but I think I want to move them to get more sun.
Stacey... I did get some heuchera in your coop too... good choice for that shade area.
Hmmm... gonna have to think about the Rose tree.

Back to my digging.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

BJ, that looks so nice! I don't h ave that much shade here, so I could not even begin to tell you what does well in shade!
Phyllis, she will not forget my leaf, remember it has my name on it!!!
My garden area is 24 X 4 X 2 1/2. I was going to fill the whole area, but then we realised, I could not get to the back area, unless I climbed up in it, so we made it 4 feet wide, instead of 7 feet.
Crissy, you are very busy! Slow down just a little so you don't make the rest of us look too bad! But if you run out of things to do, I live in Texas... ^_^
Jaye, sorry to hear you have a sore throat!
Cody how you doing? How is that ear healing?
Susan, it is nice to see you posting! Your even siging!
Stacey, your one busy person also! Cleaning, and cutting your squares, getting ready to sew. Just remember to sew your seams backwards. It took me a few squares to sew, before I remembered. So out came the seam ripper...

LK

LOL LK!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

BJ he will love the Tut Exhibit…..my son has been a history nut since he was verrry little…..when he was aobut four or five he loved King Tut, had all kinds of books and pictures. So, when the exhibit came to Seattle my MIL took us to see the exhibit. As we started throuhg some lady, just loudly enough for us to hear, commented on how rude and dumb it was to bring a small child to this….they aren’t old enough to understand or appreciate it. A short time later we missed Shawn…started looking…..there was a large group gathered around one of the exhibits…there was Shawn giving a better explaination of it than any tour director. The previous woman was not far from us when my MIL commented that “it is too bad he is too young to understand or appreciate the exhibits”…LOL…even in the lowered lighting you could see that woman turn red!
Wow, what a wonderful Job!!! Love the walkways and cannot wait to see the beds all planted and in bloom!!

Susan glad you are popping in….new recipe sounds good. Don’t forget to let us know how it turns out…anything with squash and tomatoes has to be good!
No we don’t think you are some kind of Wacko (at least if you are, it is a crowded pond)….float on over and talk to Laura and I any time…we are often in that same pond.

Jaye, glad you are feeling better…..I need to get some things repotted….maybe that will be my project for payday…

Good afternoon everyone I have missed…….and everyone who is missing…..sure a lot of people we haven’t heard from in awhile??

With the 2 inches of snow we got last night no bike ride today so Bill is underfoot….guess we will get a few things done we have been putting off and I have a little garden sprite I have been wanting to finish…was too cold yesterday..

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

When I get stressed instead of freaking out I try to meditate and become the turtle which as you all know I love and float in a pond soaking up the sun... Some days it works well others as you can see not to good..
I will let you all know how dinner turned out... I have to boil milk and that has me kinda sorta worried...I have not boiled milk in many years....LOL
Hugs,
Susan

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LK, what do you mean by "sew the seams backwards"? I've never heard that before and I've been sewing for 41 years. Of course I don't always hear everything so...........

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

BIRDBATH? WHAT BIRDBATH?
LOL

came in to fix us a bite to eat, and decided on Grilled Cheese and warmed up Minestrone... then I realized that I have no bread, no butter, and no cheese... so Don went to the store for me... sheesh... I'll never hear the last of this.

Mike is so excited about our trip... he's on the internet now checking the weather, checking out all the other things that San Antonio and Austin have to offer... and has even told me not to worry about not taking him on a big trip for spring break... he really would like to see some Texas history... so, I'm not feeling so bad now.
Trisha... I think Don's more excited about seeing the King Tut exhibit than Mike is... I am too... but we watch a lot of History channel, so we kind of know what to expect there... will be cool to see first hand, though. Mike's requested to go to the Kennedy exhibit... and Don thinks it's not far from the museum we'll already be at... so we'll try to do both on Thursday.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When doing a rag quilt, you need to put the wrong sides, or the backside of the fabric together, not the right sides, so you will be sewing backwards to what you are normally doing.

LK

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

LK-no clue what that means, but I am sure MIL does:)

Shade-my front is a primarily shade bed-the front gets sun, so I have dianthus in the sun part. In the shade I have monkshood, heuchera, toad lilies, astilbe and brunnera....I know I have some other stuff too-just can't remember at the moment...also, Jacob's ladder likes shady spots and there are some really great ones out-if I can find this one neat one B4 I come BJ I will bring it to you:) Oh-columbine like a spot that get a lot of shade, so they would be cute in the spot that gets some sun in the am....ooo-and astrantia like that too:)

I am a big fan of clematis-so I have them in some of my full sun spots, along with coreopsis, veronica, sedum, flax, nicotania, some grasses, hibiscus, bee balm, malva, holyhock and some other stuff I don't remember. My fave bush for sun is my weigela. It is a hummer magnet!!

Hi LK,i'm good.My ear is still not hurting, thanks for asking. How are you doing?

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

LK-that still doesn't make sense to me??

So, no thoughts on the fabric I posted several posts up just B4 BJ's pics??

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I thought you just pur the squares together and sewed after I put and X in the middle to hold the muslin layer in....of course leaving a 1/2" on each side to "rag"

Coushatta, LA

Stacey, love the flowers in that picture.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Stacey, that is what you do, but make sure you have the seams to the front, not going to the back of the fabric, like it normally would be! So when you are sewing them together, place the backs together and sew. Your seam will be in the front to snip, not on the back.
I like the striped fabric. That would be nice for the new cushions! And that dragonfly fabric, will look very nice in the quilt!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Donna, my sympathy on the pre-move and move; having just done that… but we did a mainly car move where you’ll move everything at once. I’m not sure which way is easier.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Stace... columbine does not do well here... I have tried it before, and everyone tells me that it gets way too hot here for it... but some of those others you listed sound great... I'm going to plant what I have (some things just need to be thinned and redistributed in other beds... then I'll figure out what else I need to fill in. I still have plants on the sun porch that are screaming to get planted... so, after we get back from our trip, I'll get all over that.

Don's off to OK City, and Mike and I are getting our clothes together for our trip... guess we better put that chunk of concrete in the car now, so we don't "accidentally" forget it... LOL...

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I got drenched!!!!!!!!!!!!! Said to myself, if Trisha were to see me soaking wet, she'd be laughing!! Ain't it supposed to be this kind of gloomy unpredictable weather ONLY in Washington??

Hi Phyllis, Cindy, Crissy and Susan!!

Susan, you're in good company! If anyone were to deem themselves as sane here, then I'm in the wrong planet!

Niece, my opinion, since you asked. No, to the first fabric. It doesn't grab my attention, and YES to the dragonfly :D

BJ and to those who haven't seen the King Tut exhibit.. go if you have the chance. I was lucky to be able to visit the Cairo museum, seeing real gold chariots. And Trisha, my parents started us young, the minute we can walk, to tour museums or any important travelling exhibits that came to the city.

Laura, I can't count how many times I have moved, most probably contributed to the growth of moving companies. Each time I moved, I lose something, especially leaving family, friends and familiarity behind.

Sore throat's gone LK. Might return tomorrow morning. Kel says I've been snoring regularly. Hmm.. I didn't hear it :D

Waiting for my wygela to grow that big!!! Mine is a light pink.. so easy to take care of.

Keep that chunk of concrete, BJ.. I won't tell ;)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Can't depend on the weather channel. I just hope it won't be raining and freezing at the same time tomorrow!!! I want to go out and play!

Coushatta, LA

I know what you mean.I would love to get out and mowe. What part i did do will half to turn around and redo it again. That's ok though.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Mow???? Our grass is still sleeping!!!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Rained here for just a bit then stopped. Sure is over-cast though. I'm ready to play in the yard too.

I'm so amazed at BJ's "git her done" ambitious work ethic! Look at her new paved walkway! That's the cat's meow right there! You go girl!

Coushatta, LA

Jaye, before it started raining here,we had wild flowers growing on the grass. That means it time to mow.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I am making graphs for the 4 rag quilts I am making with the tink fabric to plan how I want the fronts and backs color wise....

Tante-I searched the Dmail and it is Wildest Dream-I totally forgot-thank you so much for remembering!!

BJ-LMK what you are missing and I will see if I can either split some things or bring seeds with me in May!! Or even see if I can find some and the place here that sells perennials for $1 each in 4" pots:) A lot of the stuff I get from them flowers the 1st year even!!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

what quilter is on right now that can help me with measurements to see if I am headed the right direction??

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Tante-you really don't like the fabric?? I know I want stripes in different shades of brown....

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Deborah... and if it weren't for getting to see LK agian, and the fact that Mike is anxious to see something other than Tool-By-God Texas... I'd be staying right here this week and getting everything back in order out there. But, it'll just have to wait till I get back.

I did get the steps built off the little patio though... but since it's all on a slope... now I need a step off the step... *sigh*... this could never end.

LOL... Mike and I both waited till the last minute to wash a load of clothes ... cause what we want to wear on our trip is dirty. We'd combine our loads... but we each have full loads.
