What have you ordered for spring 2009 - Part 5

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

YIPPEE!!! I was thinking about you all morning. I am beside myself with excitement for you!!!

Just don't have a poppy seed bun. It actually showed up on one of DH's tests many years ago.

I remember that poppy seed bun. It was military guys that got poinked.

Thanks all - lets see what goodies I can get my grubby paws on :-) I know I have seen carts and carts of abused plants go to the dumpster. I will save them money on trash fees

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

great news sherrie - so does your employee discount work chain wide?

South Hamilton, MA

Great Sherrie! Look at it from the other (customers) side. They will get better service.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yay Go Sherrie, Go sherrie!!!!Woo hoo!!!!

I dont know what is on the internal side. Gotta get my foot in the door and then all heck will come our way !

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You'll be an asset in the gardencenter

We will see Jo, I might not be able to stand up that long without hurting. You know.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You'll ajust.Take your time.You'll be great.
It takes me weeks to get my gardening legs in shape.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Schickenlady, For many years I worked in the rull time in the restaurant world and had to also work at my bookstore full time, so my feet suffered horrible. It took years to finally be able to have the bookstore support me. During this time I finally got smart and made sure that I switched shoes several times a day. Not exactly sure why it helped, but it sure did. I now wear those jelly heel pads when I am planning on an all day hike on hard pavement when I am site seeing. Those things seem to help. But I do need some extra space in my shoes, so I have to make sure I have the right socks or they pinch my feet.

I hope you can encourage HD to water their plants and that you can keep an eagle eye out for that evil hosta virus. I heard some sad tales of people losing all their hosta from buying from sources who had no idea or interest in making sure that their truck loads that they got were getting were healthy. Also watch out for those terrible lily beetles. I think some HD stores have great and caring help, but others hire bodies who have no interest in plants.

My niece worked for HD for years and now her husband is a manager of one in Okla. She has a real love hate for the place. She got run down by a fork lift and has had three operations and after 5 years is still trying to get her workman's comp and settlement from HD. She was the HR person for that store and she still can't get them to pay her hospital bills. Watch out for those fork lifts!!!!! But enjoy the perks. You will have to tell us where you work so we can pop in and say hello.

Victor, you are too funny. Which drugs would you be recommending?

We just went to HD today for plastic wire ties to use on our deer fence . They had some fruit trees in, apples, peaches, prunes, and cherries. They looked pretty good, but I didn't buy any. Then we hit our favorite Agway in Keene for bales of peat and bags of moodoo and some plastic domes for my seedlings. I love those tall ones that have a vent. I also picked up hardwood stakes for caging some of my soon to arrive shrubs. They had some great tall narrow clay pots for hippeastrum @ 2.79 each. We bought some various plant fertilizers and shrub spikes. We have now loaded the truck for an early departure to Nantucket. I have saved a bit of space in case I see some nursery open on the Cape with some pansies and ??? I am sure I could find something to finish filling up the space.

I can't wait to see my new Japanese Maples. No doubt they will be taller than Victor's. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Patti - please note LJ's comments on my gargantuan specimens on the JM thread.

I've yet to be in a HD where they took even basic care of the plants. I call HD plant purgatory.

Patti's 'gellin!!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, Yep, "gellin" for sure! I did read that you got sent the biggest box, but that it was filled with PI rather than JMaples. Lucky you.

Did you all see that Boojum is having a RU on June 21st. Her garden is wonderful. It is close to Greenfield Ma. Patti

Hard to type when you're doing a DANCE OF JOY FOR SHERRIE!!!

Thomaston, CT

Yea, Sherrie! You go teach them a thing or two about plants! Are you working in the West Leb store? If so, I'll stop in.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have posted this before, but this is a great place for moss baskets and other moss containers. Very reasonably priced. I get the 16" super deep ones for the hanging baskets. I love the natural look of them and they hold hold moisture. They do wear out after a few years if you leave them outside like I do. Also, the birds do pick at them sometimes and make holes.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Also Mickey sleeps in them in the winter if you store them in the garden shed. Doesn't chew them up though.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

this is good stuff as well.. Michele used it last year in two trough planters on her garage... there must be water gels inside the stuff

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

coops are dangerous - more geraniums and ferns - although i stayed away from the hay-scented variety

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Why?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

South Hamilton, MA

We have hay scented fern along the side of the garage. Very welcome green in that spot; not yet , of course.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I love the scent in fall.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

This is pretty cool. Very space efficient.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Love the agastache

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

think we are on the same page

:)

I started a flat of green bell california wonder peppers on the 16th. In the house with no extra heat. Its been 5 days and the roots are just starting to emerge. About 1/3" long.I soaked the seeds 3 hours in water and a teaspoon hydrogenperoxide. I really think it sped up the process.

Dont bother to look at the blury pic
