What have you ordered for spring 2009 - Part 5
I have been developing a new garden in front of the woodpile.
There will be mostly annuals in this traffic area off season.
The two co-ops will supply coleus and caladiums.
Its a shade-partshade area.
side view, the pile is straight off the deck and about 10 feet wide.
I have divided the 75 feet along the property line into seperate gardens so I dont get lost while making plans.
These are the plants for the area. These perenials will go at the side and away from where SIL walks to get wood.

the only one I am not sure of is the thumbalina... it's only 3 - 6" tall .... right?

Just moved a Gouachamole hosta yesterday.
The heucheras are due in a month.
Other hostas ie:August moon and blue cadet arent big enough to find in the spots where they grow.
How did you move anything yesterday JoAnn? I thought the ground was still pretty frozen. And it was so windy yesterday.
Ground is thawed here.

I started at 8oclock when the temps were 54* and hardly any wind.
It was hard to move the Jap.Iris out of their plastic pots.Temps 40* and 30 mph gusts.
The pots blew away so fast I couldnt catch them.
They are probably behind neighbors stoch ade fence 5 sections of which blew down hahaha we arent fond of the fence.
I had to move one JI at a time and come into the house to get warm between the four I freed from the nursery pots they were in- in the ground.
2 inches of wAter standing in the holes when I lifted the whole pot out.
Well, I'm impressed. I haven't even done any clean up yet, waiting for nicer, drier conditions. I am getting antsy to do it though.
It drove me nuts.
I assumed sence a lot of the plants were dorment ,they could be moved.
The three days of warm weather and rain thawed everything.
Weather should get warmer today and tomorroe, Sat will be good got gardening.
I am giving a 1 day workshop on the Woodcut print method I reserected three years ago.
Hard to believe you're already moving/planting stuff, Jo Ann.
Its a risk I know ,but these were due and no loss if they dont work out.
The JI's might be at risk but they werent going to survive with wet feet from being in the nursery pots even tho there were big holes cut into the pots.

so now a limelight will be added to the great list. a nursery near by has claimed to me they plan to specialize on hydrangea's this coming year - they will have incrediball - so i'm interested to see what they bring in.
under full disclosure i have been ordering from coops - i will not be posting a list as i'm not as organized as patti - i ordered 4 echi's - 6 jm's - 12 or so geraniums, a few ferns yet to be confirmed and i think that is all.
Wha when are you going to have time to work on the Great Wall of Wha with all these new things?

dnut the wall is sort of finished - when i can afford granite steps i will do the remaining 10 feet going up the front steps - we are talking about 15 or so steps - i have not even priced that yet - i will install the steps myself.
work is going to offer me time off here this spring (nice way of saying impending lay-off) probably beginning of april - the silver lining will be i will have time work on the yard, provide my wife with a clean house, and look for new employment.
victor - of course you have both :) is limelight a good one - it has not stood out to me.
Last year was the first year for Limelight. I was underwhelmed.
thanks - it has looked like any noid hydrangea to me - i will investigate more though since i am sure the plants will be large

Found the Final Great Wall of Wha. Obviously I'm having a brain fart cuz I did see it at the time. Looks just as fabby the second time around ^_^
I'm trying not to purchase too much in the way of plants or seeds this year, although I know something will catch my eye that I just have to have. Rather, I am putting my $$$ into more containers and pots and plant boxes to pretty up the back patio area.

Ouch! I need to get out & dig pennisetum grasses---4 clumps----am not looking forward to it---also have to replace fencing---must call & get a quote for that---I need a job also---maybe DSs in-laws will let me pick & sell blueberries this summer!

I've been avoiding this thread and keeping my credit card locked up but true confessions time - I spent $75 at Graceful Gardens this morning! They had a little chart comparing their prices to everybody else's including Bluestone and, well, I fell. 32 plants, mostly perennials. Does anybody know about wallflower? Supposed to be very fragrant perennial but PF says it's an annual.
