sunnyg wrote: LOL I totally agree Sally! What handsome frogs, Bea and SW. From what I've read, Pacific Tree Frogs actually do change the color of their skin, and I know I saw a huge amount of variation in their coloring among my buddies last year. I seem to recall that the change has something to do with temperature...but I very well might not be recalling correctly ;-). Sorry for my half finished frog thoughts yesterday. I have a fully enclosed "yard," and the frogs and many other critters don't seem inclined to scale a 6 foot tall fence. :-( As a newbie to this whole thing, I bought a couple of smallish tadpoles at the pond store, and they ended up turning itno the giant bullfrog tadpoles pictured above. Given how tiny my pond/yard is, as well as my fish (bullfrogs eat small fish and birds), I decided to return the tadpoles to the store and get native tadpoles that would turn into more petite frogs. I was so sad about returning my bullfrog tadpole buddies, but felt it was the best option given the tiny size of my setup here. Your bullfrogs are so handsome and full of personality, Bea, and I'm happy I get to enjoy their antics here on DG at least :-). I'm looking forward to checking out the adventures of Mama and Melvin. Here's a pic from last summer, of a newly released Pacific Tree Frog froglet hanging out in some creeping thyme. He was about the size of the fingernail on my pinky finger. I swear he's smiling is this pic! ;-). |
