well it doesn't affect me as my div. is being sold off - and the acquiring company will probably not need many of us - so the resume is good to go and waiting for the severance - we are past the initial shock and preparing for the future.
on a positive note i may have some time to plant all these deliveries that are coming this spring.
Coffee Break # 5 - One week to daylight savings!
Oh man - good luck, Bill!
thx - we'll be fine
Just finished my taxes. Never fun, even though I'm getting a refund. Seems the most time is spent on things that are not worth much.
O dear such not good news :( :( Sorry all to hear these things.
sorry to hear it Bill.... I have been laid off from the state twice now... it's never easy... the first one was good I was 20 and they laid me off in June for 2 and 1/2 months... PARTY TIME.. it was such a mass lay off I didn't even have to do a job search for unemployment ...the second time was for 6 years... but I ended up getting a higher paid job in that time.. I only came back because I had 8 years and 2 months in.. and we need 10 to be vested... all that time would have been worthless... and when I was 19 paying into the pension was chicken scraps ... as you get older it becomes more expensive .. and the state jobs have less stress than the one I held in between
the gov. is not allowed to knock our pay rates down... but isn't this doing the same thing???
1st question I asked... can I pick the day if this happens... and they said no... but I feel real bad for my co worker... him and his wife both work for the state... big chunk out of those checks then... it's not like we make big money to begin with.. I am waiting to see what the union is going to do with this.... but I keep wondering if he is just threatening the 12 days just to get the union to agree with the 2 days he originally planned... too many political games
Cute cat Victor. Which one is that?
Thanks, Harp. That's Spooky.
allison - the folks at my company can just pick the days they want
you would think they would give us at least that
FL is trying to cut the salary of every state worker who makes over $100K by 5%. Good idea.
yeah leave us poor sleeps alone!... go hit up those people!!!
my February sow list is done... time to move on to March
http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/vbc/onewish1/72433/
Allison, that's a lot of seedlings!! Do you have them indoors under lights? I'm gonna start sowing this weekend.
Harper
yeah lots of lights... some of them I only sowed 6 seeds... don't think it's a whole tray of each
but with all those cuttings taking up room this year... I had to improvise
This is the week where I work. 10% of us gone by the end of the week. Security shows up at your door and out you go. They mail anything personal from your office to your home. I'm glad I lived through the 80s and have seen it before so I'm a little more callused as an ole boot than I was then but it's still pretty brutal. I just hope that everyone affected has loving friends and family as in the end that is what matters. I do know we will ALL get through this with love and laughter.
My sister went through that treatment.
I went through that treatment to. But I get my revenge. They where never able to find some one who could the job as well as I did. My sister is sweating through another downsizing at the same company.
that is how in the main office they know the grim reaper is close - part time security is on the grounds
And your desk is in the men's room.
short walk.
Welcome back Candyce!
Bill, Sorry to hear it. Good luck.
Ladies room is better Victor. We have lotion. I'm bringing in a ton of hellium balloons tomorrow and setting them free. We will go with laughter (and funny voices).
Best of luck, dnut!
best of luck d-nut!
sorry to hear that sherri!
has a scare here our div. man. is in - normally only on Monday's - sits right next ro me - think it is only to puch a couple people to get some things done before the boom lands - he's been asking questions to me that will take some time to resolve.
one more day - one more day :)
Wow---am really sorry for all of you ----since I was in educ. all my life, never had a problem with layoffs---of course, I never made much salary-wise, either---and NO---I never had many summmers off--- I had to take courses, & some years had to teach summer school--since my DH was also in the educ. field, I remember summers with mainly hot dogs & beans, or lots of pasta, & PB&J., & anything I could grow in the garden! But then I hear my Mom's stories of the Depression---they had 2 kids then, & my Dad was working for WPA.
This economy is really hurting all walks of life but I hate seeing it happen to my friends. So sorry all, if i can help in anyway, please ask. I'm not sure how..... but I have tons of seeds I can share. ^_^
Wow, sorry to hear that it's rough for a few of you, at least as gardeners we'd never starve.
Rough for this lady too...

I'm so sorry Sherri. This is so sad. Well it's done here for now - 200 people out the door in 3 hours. I don't feel lucky. I feel sick.
Oh how terrible, dnut! My best to you. Sherrie, to you guys as well.
dnut glad you made it and i know how you feel - tough times right now
Best to everyone. I hope they can network to a new place, but who is hiring?
That's the problem. Wait until we get the Feb numbers on Friday. Won't be pretty. Probably 700K more job losses.
My potato's arnt right. I bought 2 bags and if "anyone remembers" I said "I did scalloped potatoes and they turned black" - willyb said what the problem was. They turned after everything including baking and putting away!
So I said to dh - I am not buying that kind again. Got another different kind of potato - good grief is it me? What do you see? I just opened a new bag of a different kind.
Did both of those come from the same bag??
Here is a listing of the seeds I started. This is just some of the veggies and herbs.
Tomorrow will be the perennials and the annuals.
I want to REALLY REALLY REALLY! thank EVERYone who participated in the Round Robin Seed Exchange and let you all know it has been a BIG help to me this year.
