Best/Worse/What did I learnt today...visit with friends #88
sheesh! gone for half a day and you all have a party without me! teehee!
I think San Mateo bridge is about 10 minutes from me, so not sure how far Liz is from there! lol! I am literally right where Dumbarton Bridge road ends :o( so we get lots and lots of traffic on my part of the freeway. the worst is late at night...for some reason everytime a highway patrol pulls someone over, its right behind our wall. they get on their loud speaker and yell at whoever they are pulling over, telling them to exit the freeway, over and over again. problem is, I have a huge sunroof in our bedroom that is right over our bed. We keep it opened a little so we can get some air in the room (only other window that opens is the sliding door, and we are not in a safe neighborhood) I'll be sound asleep and suddenly hear that blasted loudspeaker yelling "exit the freeway! exit the freeway!" maybe someday I'll tape it and take it down to the CHP to let them know how horrible it is :o(
LOL! Liz, I showed DH the tin man....he said 'no way!" I guess my list of projects for him is kinda long! lol! He's still finishing up the arbor, then needs to install a sump pump and drain out back, so I can finish pouring my cement cobblestones, then has to move Mt Bailey into the front yard, so I can finish my new beds in front, and then needs to run water and electrical to where Mt Bailey is so I can hook up my fountain and then I get to plant that huge bed! lol! and he only has a month to get it done! (just kidding, I'll give him a month and a half! teehee!)
so, if I want a tinman, guess I gotta do it myself! lol! Is it just screwing the pieces together using machine screws? no welding right? and do you fill the bottom pieces with anything? to make it so he wont blow over?
please tell! teehee!
I went out back to take a pix of the wonderful (not!) freeway sign that lights up my back yard....but thankfully neighbors tree is now hiding it! yippeee! then I got a little distracted.....
set my camera down to feed some treats to the chickens, opened their gate and one of my girls literally flew up on me and landed in my hair! I set her back down on the ground, fed them their treats then came back inside for coffee (forgeting my $2000 camera outside! ugh!) so back outside to get my camera before the rains come, coffee cup in hand.... glance at my shoulder and there is blood on my jacket! I'm not bleeding, so must be one of my girls! go back into their pen and this time instead of jumping in my hair, she jumps out of the pen! just sitting there looking at me... shes never done this before, so I pick her up, cuddle her a bit and put her back in the pen. then I notice that one of the other hens (the mean one) is pecking at her! pick her back up and notice that her whole bum is red and sore and bleeding. This must be why she is always sitting on the water tower and flew onto my head when I went out there! they are all pulling her tail feathers out! grrr!
she is now seperated in her own cage (lol! in my sons studio....he's gonna LOVE that! teehee!) and seems happy as a clam now! will keep her there til her bum heals and feathers grow back in.
if that mean ole hen doesnt quit it soon, will be shipped to Redding to join my friends flock...where SHE will be low one in the pecking order! lol!
I think its really time to start naming these girls...now that I know they ARE girls! lol!
after all this, I come back inside, see that I have this thread up, remembered my camera once again! lol! outside I go to get my camera, come back in and wait....where'd my coffee go? back outside again!
I think I'm loosing my mind! teehee! I'm exhauseted, and really all I did was move a hen into another cage! grrr!
okay, gotta go try to get some work done so DH doesnt think I just sat around all day! lol!
1AnjL Hi you can get some ointment to put the little girls bum stops pecking
Ask for anti peck med..at your farm store..We have very good luck with stopping that bad girl behavior
Seems to be worse with young chicks..
Good luck
Tubby
Thanks Tubby! although we really dont have a farm store nearby :o( I have to buy my feed at the pet store at a hefty price :o( may need to take a drive to Livermore and pick up feed and ointment there....will call around tomorrow and see if they have any
JUST a little %%%%%%%%%%%
WHERE DO RED-HEADED BABIES COME FROM?????
After their baby was born, the panicked father went to see the Obstetrician. 'Doctor,' the man said, 'I don't mind telling you, but I'm a little upset because my daughter has red hair. She can't possibly be mine!!'
'Nonsense,' the doctor said'.
'Even though you and your wife both have black hair, one of your ancestors may have contributed red hair to the gene pool.'
'It isn't possible,' the man insisted.'????? ?'This can't be, our families on both sides had jet-black hair for generations.'
'Well,' said the doctor, 'let me ask you this. How often do you have sex??? '
The man seemed a bit ashamed. 'I've been working very hard for the past year. We only made love once or twice every few months.'
'Well, there you have it!' The doctor said confidently.
'It's rust.'
Really neat You will all like this

Hello All -
Tubby/Terry - I've actually heard that one...it is funny! :)
Liz; - Yes - (A/ I) The Redhead is only 16! Hard to believe how she works the stage as she does at that young age. My 16 could work a stage like that...she is very dramatic....but she can't sing. :) She is in the school play/ on the dance team, etc.
Crissy - I think you mean Kris. He is from AR. (Arkansas). I have not seen Lil Rounds....Has she been highlighted on earlier shows? I haven't missed many. BUT I will miss next Tuesday ....have to hold the Band BOoster Meeting....so if any of ya'll want to watch and keep me posted...it would be much appreciated. :) We like Danny, 16 yr. old, Adam....so far our fav's. I like Missy too...but she's not in Top 12 yet.
Stacey - Where did you go for Florida Band Trip? What instrument did you play? 2009/2010 will be our last year as Band Parents.
RE: Washington DC...the Theatre was an unexpected find...I'm not sure if they have tours....but it is right across from the Hard Rock Cafe.
Betty - How is Sailor doing? Our Indy (probably 13+ yr old greyhound) is peeing/pooing almost everyday now in livingroom, doorstep outside...everywhere. He is like a grumpy old man. I love him but he is taking his toll on DH....as well as me. Can't get him to eat, gain weight....I'm concerned...think we'll lose him soon. And we just lost Smokey...(cat)....so concerned for the kids....
Stacey - The holocaust museum looks like a wonderful place to visit....wish we had been able to stop there. We did The Memorials, Most museums.
Sharran - Yes - Honestly....it is the time of my life... When all the kids come over here I am so fulfilled. They really are good kids. (So Far). But we usually have about 6 running around the house. I like the fact that they feel comfortable here....I want them to hang out here so I know what they're doing.
When Betty is in Washington....we will be in Ft. Walton Bch, FL. Rented a Condo that sleeps 8. Second year of a tradition I am trying to start. DH & Me, and 3 kids with 1 guest each. I started this tradition...so that every year we will have a vacation with the kids...no matter what they are doing, or where they go.
Brock (oldest) will be a Senior next year. I am totally scared about the "after graduation" part of his life.
Hugs to all ,
Mary

Funny
A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.
The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah".
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
Th e little girl replied, "Then you ask him".
A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work.
As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.
The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."
Betty, you didn't post again after you left work, and that always worries me, particularly with your weather.
I do hope you are OK.
I have been up till this wee hour because I got a text message that my daughter (in Fort Lauderdale, Fla) was in an accident on I 95 on her way to work. She was sort of smashed between two trucks. She is fine, but was in the ER for 3 hours. Her car is totaled. So this is a sleepless night, but am thankful there were no serious injuries. She is insured, so that is a good thing. It doesn't matter how old our children are, they are still our children, aren't they?
Needless to say, I was not up on any ladders tonight.
morning all,
shar omg! how horrible glad to hear ashley wasnt hurt what a thing to have to go through, big hugs to you know you just must of been frantic, your painted room is wonderful love the color so warm and cozy.
OMG Shar, Lord must have been travelling with her...your adrenaline must be pumping overtime..no wonder you can't sleep...regardless of no visual or internal injuries, she'll be hurting just from muscles and sometimes that can be more painful than breaks...wow, that is worrysome to get such a call...I still thank the Lord for when Suzanne and I were hit by the transport truck, only through good driving on her behalf are we still here....hugs to Ashley...
You know Shar, with going to bed between 7 and 8 this week and having a late night Thursday night I came home and within minutes the telephone rang, was my cousin/SIL ... she was at emerg as well, using some sort of slicer and almost slicing her finger off, so we began to chit chat, hung us, got comfy laying on the couch with my new garden magazine and just woke up when Sailor wanted out....how's that for a good night sleep...
As for the quilt, I'm going to pull it out, it is a queen size so perhaps as you say might be too large to do what I want...it's a long hallway so that wouldn't be a problem...
Will have my coffee and check it out...
"Tubby" love the joke with the rust..my morning laugh..what does DW have you doing today, do you have a 'to do' list like the rest of the hubbies...
Mary, great tradition to start, hate to say it though, doesn't take many years before these youngsters have lives, jobs of their own and you just can't seem to get together, it always seems impossible just to get them all together for a day much less a vacation week...am hoping you CAN keep this tradition going...Sailor is losing ground which breaks my heart..hasn't made any mess of late but most likely that's because friends, neighbors have been dropping in to let her out...Thursday with me being away all day, Cathy and her mom came 4 times...then Wedn. all the girls were here so she was spoilt..just taking day by day am hoping when spring comes and she can spend time outside with me I'll not have to think of doing the obvious..but will for her benefit when time comes..then NO MORE dogs...
AnnMarie when I lived on the farm (moved 4 years ago) we had goats and chickens...my job was to pick eggs and to hand feed baby goats when needed...we had several mean chicks, they became someones lunch from time to time...I don't know why, I never enjoyed eating our own eggs..we didn't sell them, gave them to neighbors and that was hard going because we were in farm country and most had their own chickens...we did enter some of the chicks in the county fairs and won, that was fun, from time to time more toward Easter I would have the chicken hatchery upstairs in the craft room and all the grandchildren were young so Easter week we'd have chickies galore..was a fun time....
Ohh leaving an expensive camera like that outside could be trouble...
OMG someone is tooting and it's just me and the kitties, KNOW it's not me, Sailor scratching on the door, she wants in...it's -21 right now so best I go, be back after..
Morning All My mom would get giggle Betty..I spent a few summers with oldest DS & her DH.on a farm in SD..When I would be telling DM & DD about my summer.I would say I was picking eggs..Mom would say You gather eggs & pick apples..LOL DM still gets a grin when we remember I'm on my own today..DW is working today for the lady that work opposite of her shift She wanted to spend the day with her GS.His birthday So they switched .DW was home Mon. Tue. & Wed. Putting up with me .LOL
Shar Thank God is right..Times like this make you ask

Morning all,
Sharon..
so glad your daughter is ok.
Betty..such a pretty quilt.
Couldn't believe how cold it is this morning..here my weather chart says -17c.
My friend Sheila has a crocus up and in bud.
Her front window is wide open to the sun....it is encouraging.
Thr rain yesterday washed away quite a bit of snow..
I bought a different kind of primrose a few days ago..the blooms look like rosebuds..
Spring is in the air.........
Have a good weekend everyone.
Were you plant shopping at the nursery we visited Carol?have to keep an eye on the primrose plants to see if I can see which you've purchased..you'll then transplant into the garden right...
It's bright outside here as well and much the same temp and calling for much the same for the better part of the week, thank goodness..we're bound to get a few more blizzards though don't you think...
I rained here but not a whole lot, hoping the thaw comes slowly so there is no flooding, know you are hoping for much the same...
Hard to believe those paper like thin flowers can survive in this cold..still too much snow on the ground for me to go in search of any plants sticking their heads out of the ground...
As for the quilt, not giving up hanging it yet..I remember when I was in Florida I purchased a nice quilt rack built in a shelf type unit..where is it??? of course DIL Melanie fell in love with it so I gave it to her..best I go over take photo and go to Home Depot and get the necessary wood and make myself one...
Drawback being they don't get up till 9:00 am on Saturdays...sleepy heads...
Tubby, no doubt in my mind he walks every step of the way and just to be on the safe side he provides us with earthly angels...
'and there go you all!'
Hi again Betty,
I got the primrose at Zellers.
They had several kinds in all colours...only $2.27.
yes..it will go in the garden in the spring.
If I go to Midland, only place in the area there is a Zellers I'll go look at their plants...
Long morning waiting until 9:00 or so for people to get up..lol...still waiting to hear from Sharon to see if we are off for a day to Meaford..boutiques and lunch, then once I know if we are or not, plans can be made to entertain ME..could call Cathy, she's so kind to me, see if she'd like to go..she doesn't drive so it would be a treat for her, but then on such a cold day it would be nice JUST to sit inside and enjoy..
What shall I do? lol..come on, need someone to direct me today...
Terry-loved your little jokes this am:)
Mary-We marched in the Disney anv parade-this was in like 91-so no clue what anv it was-got free tickets to Epcot, but not disney, went to the beach, froze our butts off-we didn't do much on that vacation other than practice our routine, go to Epcot and the beach-we were there for like 3 or 4 days I think. We were in DC for like 6 days I think....
Betty-OK-then I will try to remember the pics when I come:)
I hope when you get your card from me you laugh a little:) Not necessarily at the card, but at what may "fall out":)
Well, we went to the quilt store by Mom yesterday, then to Joann's then to Michaels, and let me tell you-I coulda died in that quilt store and been happy!! I got a few pieces of fabric-not a lot-mostly off the sale rack-pretty much all the fabric in there was $10yd, but the sale stuff was 1/2 price:) Here are 2 that I got...
OMG Stacey, they are the cutest 'Fairies' now how much fun was that...you are still at Janice's right for the weekend..will you incorporate those fabrics into the quilt you are doing? bet you are sooo enjoying your day..
Now you have me curious...'what might fall out' last time I heard that was when the seniors at Baxter hall celebrated my birthday March just after Roger died..omg they gave me a pair of real rabbits...oh/oh .. did try to look please and excited...lol so I'll be watching..
Sharon called, she's still not moving well, said she'd meet me in Barrie for lunch but not well enough to go to Meaford...I'm quite comfortable doing my thing today so said why not wait a few more weeks until she felt more like it..next weekend is dog show, so weekend after is right in the middle of my birthday month and hers - April Fools day, so we can exchange Christmas gifts and birthday gifts...talk about meeting on a regular basis right..
So I've done some measuring..the phone is up but handing on a thread..must purchase correct length of screws...then I've measured for trim for coming down the stairs to the basement, a piece of livingroom trim (made changes) took dimensions for quilt rack..won't pay attention to Melanie..lol - will pick up linoleum so it's here should I decide to make new dining room matt, pick up a few flowers AND I'm putting $150.00 in my wallet and telling myself that's my weekend project, the rest of my week's allowance will go in my D.C. trip envelope..aren't I being a good girl...hoping to be able to sneak in Kentucky Fried chicken for lunch on that budget...
We have a little over 4" of snow from last night..Hope it melts as fast as the last one Warmer temperatures coming %%%%%%%%%_______________________Hi________________________%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Just a sweet story of a little old lady that will warm your heart!
Just when you have lost faith in human kindness, someone who teaches at Kean Elementary in Wooster , Ohio forwarded the following letter.
The letter was sent to the Principal's office after the school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An old lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize and was writing to say thank you. This story is a credit to all humankind. Forward to anyone you know who might need a lift today.
Dear Kean Elementary:
God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior citizens luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at the Sprenger Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away. I am all alone now and it's nice to know that someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady. My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio, but before I received one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she was napping. The other day her radio fell o ff the nightstand and broke into a lot of pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I told her to kiss my butt Thank you for that opportunity.
Sincerely, Edna

Tubby you need to edit your last posting. It is coming out too big. Take out some of the per cent symbols.
Mary Lil Rounds isn't from Arkansas, she's from Memphis, was in one of last years tornadoes that took everything and now her, her husband, and 3 kids live in a studio apartment and trying to get back on their feet but with recession they're having a hard time. I think she blows the socks off of the guy from Conway, AR. She was in the Missouri tryouts, Simon said, "We have a hot one!" She was in a room that stayed, and she hasn't been voted out, so she's got to be there somewhere. Her name may not be Rounds, but it is "Lil" something.
What a good idea Mary! We want to go on a vacation but I'm so scared Dave's going to lose his job I'm afraid to do anything extra, plus I don't have any time off anyway so have to build that up first. The kids grow up fast, I don't have any myself but I watch other people's and it's just crazy how fast they grow up. Have you taken your Greyhound to the vet? Tiga (Teega) my cat just turned 13 this past week and every time I think about when the time comes it is going to be one sad, sad day.
OMG Sharon I'm glad she is ok, how horrible though! One of those other trucks should have to pay, if not both of them.
AnjL I hope you don't have to go all the way to Tracy to find a feed store, Livermore should have something, there are a lot of ranches around the Altamont, unless they all go to Tracy.
Well, it's going to snow here today! Yes, way down here! LOL I'll take snow over ice any day but really waiting for spring. Daffodils have buds on them, a couple is blooming, they'll be in full bloom very soon! I've still got this hacky dry cough, which isn't unusual for me and my asthma. Whenever I catch a cold I always have a difficult time with this. I was just dozing off last night and I coughed and almost bit my tongue off, took a good chunk out of the left side of it gggrrrrrrrr
Terry LOVE the redhead one, Dave's friends in San Jose, CA are from Sicily, the husband, wife, and 2 kids are all dark skinned, black hair, dark eyes, then they had a 3rd baby, this one came out blond/blue. She says it came from her great-great grandmother, Dave always gave her crap about the "mailman's baby" LOL When we would go visit he would say that to her and she would throw all of this stuff at him, her husband would just stand there and laugh. It was hilarious.
Did the edit work.Hope so it is cute. That sweet little old lady reminds me of DMIL..
My DM Would never do that .Very shy..SD. farm girl..LOL And yet she Married DD..
I'm a lot like DD ..Oh the stories his family would tell about DD & his DBs.
Worked perfectly! Thank you!
Hi everyone...
Oh Sharon, I am so sorry tohear of Ashley accident. Good heaven thank God just was not hurt.
I hope you both are getting a good rest. A terrible scare like that...
...Today is the last of my birthday celebrations...Julia is treating me to breakfast and then we are going shopping.
Just her and I I...That alone is the best present.
Betty, that is a beautiful quilt! I would hang it up with out a problem...
Well, chat a little later, my girl is ready to go.
Betty, one time I hung a quilt by attaching matching loops to a top edge. I think your quilt is too big for that, but the loops could fit on the knobs maybe. Do you have a smaller, lighter weight quilt.
Thanks about Ashley.
I am over the worst part of the scare. And she probably is too.
You all have a good day now, it is chilly and cloudy here, not very pretty out there. Guess I'll just paint.
OOOOPS Shar too late, already went to town..loops would have also been the perfect solution..oh well, another time...
the men at Home Depot know me well, keep asking, 'can I help you, can I help you' shisssh I know where everything is more than they..needed a mini hinge, asked one girl who kept following me around trying to give me a Home Depot credit card lol where I could find them, no they didn't carry such things, more in craft line, go to Michaels or small craft shop..2 seconds later I went and got her, showed her where they were..
I've got materials for one wall, wallboard, put in new window and they didn't put the trim.. quarter round for staircase, wood for quilt rack..picked up a pkg of 'geum' seeds and new batteries for fire alarm and a roll of linoleum to paint a new matt...
Walking out of Home Depot, a couple of the men said "we'll see you at 7:00 tomorrow morning right..you should be out of supplies by then.." now do they know me or what?
Walked into the grocery store only needing pop and endust..was right on target with my set budget for working materials this weekend..at the entrance were 2 men who volunteer for Parks and Recreation Dept. selling $20.00 calendars..a draw every 2 weeks, gifts/$$$ total $6,500 so had to have me one of them...made me off budget...drats..close but no cigar!
I'm walking AnnMarie through the aisles trying to find a gallon jug of something..no go, only litre glass jars..so ask the manager and he says well perhaps in his order next week he can see if there is anything that comes in gallon glass jars & would order...'shucks no' I say, 'I'm a 'do it now' kind of person...who wants to wait till next week for a squirrel feeder...' they all got a kick out of that..people must find me unusual..
Judy, surely you can stretch your birthday month just a tad longer..a mother/daughter breakfast how wonderful..
Kind of hungry, didn't have supper, only a coffee this morning no wonder I'm hungry..off to put a roast on, bread machine and then get those tools out...
Looks like kitty is ready for roast too..LOL
Judy first thing you have to do when working with the linoleum, you must unroll, secure with something so it doesn't roll back into it's 'roll' form, let it sit until you see it has softened up and lies flat..I see from this roll this both sides of the 6' cut is ragged, shouldn't be so I'll leave for awhile and get the scissors or cutting knife to make a clean cut edge...
Betty I know nothing about what your doing with the linoleum. But what if you cut the edge with a zigzag cut.
I know that probably isn't the correct name for them..But I'm sure you all do.LOL
Just curious ..
Tubby
I went out and scooped the porch All 44' 8"..Then little strip of side walk by shop And the wood walkway past shop and brooder house down to the chicken coop..Cleared a spot to throw corn out for pigeons
I sure like porch material plastic type & the wood walkway..They melt right off with just a little sun If I had it to do over there wouldn't be any concrete walk Might even take it out no can't we drive over that area.DARN
Time for a pepsi..Maybe even a cookie.LOL
Sounds as though you are just as busy as I...friend of mine Tubby sells the same wood, great for picnic tables, adirondak chairs..problem is it takes 2 or 3 people to move them..when I worked for the municipality all our parks had the tables, benches, garbage bins and flower boxes made of it..less vandalism and less theft...great for decks, probably double the money of wood but lasts an eternity..what color is yours, wood tones or the maroon or red tone?
Betty, those are so pretty. How long do they take to paint? Do you use patterns for the flowers, then fill them in? What do you seal them with, so they don't get scuffed up?So many questions.
LK
LOL...in the middles of a mess here, first I lay the linoleum down so it settles, remember I paint the 'backside' of the linoleum' not the finished side..
the one on the top that you don't see finished but it is now, took forever, shouldn't have spent half the time I did, after all it's only a matt...
If I was to start in the morning, i.e. the big 6 x 8' and I worked rather steadily on it, the painting portion could be finished by evening..I give at least 8 to 10 coats of Flecto Satin Diamond Finish, they last forever..
Tonight before retiring I'll mix a solution of 1/2 water to about 1/2 Flecto Satin Diamond Finish and coat the entire linoleum, then I'll let dry, tomorrow morning I'll sketch what I want, this one will be simple because it goes under my dining room table...
Then if the masking tape I have is good enough, might mean another trip to Home Depot I'll start the masking and tape pattern in and paint...I'm in no hurry (did I say that?) if I can get it all painted then I'll roll it..girls come Monday to paint so have to put the tables back in order and Monday night put it back on the tables..then each morning and each night I can give it a coat of full strength Flecto Satin Diamond finish..by Saturday morning I'll have a new look..
the one that is under there now which is about 5' x 7' and matches my previous couch will be rolled up and come spring it will be on front deck , isn't that what they call recycling...they are almost indistructable..last for years..I especially like it under the table as the chairs don't scratch the wood finish and if the children drop food, or the dog makes a mess, it's simply wipe with a cloth...
The sun will fade this to gray tone.Match the house real close. This has a hollow core.Three cells screwed between cells. Not as heavy as solid core.Which has wood fibers in it..That I have seen anyway..This has a smooth side & a lite rough side..With 4 dogs ,GKs, & us AND the mud.We put smooth side up.LOL
I bought to much.. So I'm going to make Ebox's out of some..A little pricey but will last forever. The extra wasn't bad figuring I changed my mind about lower deck..Poured concrete..Takes more abuse if I decide to use it for a work area..
And want to build something and want a flat surface ..And the shade from upper deck..LOL
