Best/Worse/What did I learnt today...visit with friends #88
OK Liz, will answer Stacey's question...it's Monday!!!!
Gallon jar is pretty big Liz..wondering how long it will take AnnMarie's squirrels to eat up all the peanuts and end up in the jar trying to figure way out..lol...love it
Just talked to Sharon on msn, her back is really bad..told her not to fret about tomorrow, if she's hurting no sense us trying to go shopping/dinner etc. can always do it another weekend..
Besides, could make a new floorcloth, a couple of squirrel feeders...and I've a piece in the washroom, medicine cabinet..wouldn't mind making one for Melanie's washroom her birthday is not till May but it would take me that long to do it..lol
Just straight cuts, bit of router work , beside if I run into trouble I could head over to Bernie's..he gets a thrill out of helping older sister with woodworking...
Not a great photo but a photo..Melanie's always saying she needs a medicine cabinet in the washroom..
Ohhhh will be thrilling for me to see what I've accomplished by Monday...
Paul was suppose to be here all day but NO..
Looking at this maazine, Liz you'd love it..a lot of decoration done with shells, on the country side as well....what did you ever do with those dolls Liz and all the country decorations/signs you had??? did you purge
Oh no Betty, I don't miss that mess, it's just cool to hear someone talk about the interstates and I know where it all is, been there done that don't want to do it again. The only thing I miss is the weather, nothing more. In the area that she is talking about it takes about 10 minutes to drive a half a mile. I didn't live in that congested crap by my area, Modesto, is having bad gang issues and there's no police to stop it because the city of 250,000 is going bankrupt. Bad bad bad. California's a mess. I've been wanting to move out of there and back here to the South since I was 9. Finally found my way out.
betty, still have dolls and such i need a debri box lol just easy to empty out house and start over, boy would that make dh happy, im sure if i gave him the ok i would find a escavator and end dumps trucks here, so i guess i hang on to it somemore hmmmmm maby i could unload some stuff on anjl lol since she is a hop skip and a jump away maby i'll just surprise her and send a uhaul truck to her house lol i think i better get ready for work im just full of it today causing trouble all over! bye
well gosh darn it crissy show me the road! i cant seem to find it either
one day i'll be out of here!
gggrrrr hit send and didn't want to.
IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! _^_ _^_ _^_
Liz I just love those tin men!
Terry what a way to start the day! I just love your jokes! I went on a website to get a new joke everyday and they all sucked, so I opted out.
My Idol girl is Lil Rounds from Memphis. I think she is the best out of all of them, but I have to go for the kid from Conway, can't think of his name right at the moment.
LOL Liz, I-40
My smilies didn't come out. _^_
I don't remember how ^_^

Crissy, you didn't move south though did you by moving to Arizona..perhaps south east by few hundred miles?
Oh Liz, think AnnMarie would love some of your treasures for her little patio area and cabin...how far would she live from you? Is she close to where you travel to visit MIL/FIL?
Must go look at a map..lol..another thing to do to keep me occupied..
Paul just called, wanted to know if I was sitting on the couch yet? Said H..l no, I'm laying on it, late night last night..lol ..he just laughed..hey, place to lay when we're not feeling well..better not give him that idea..
I've spoken to June this morning, she called to tell me the cheap rate for dog tags is today $15.00 so best I drop in there on my way home...Aline just called, wanted to tel me she loved my bedroom...so haven't been toooo lonely...
no she is south about 10-15 minutes after bridge
Betty-thanks for finally answering at Liz's persuasive urging!!LOL
Mary-I didn't get to see the theater-will be on my list next time. I went as a school deal-there was a club called the Washington DC Travel Club that I did and it was the best thing I did in school-I got to go to FL with the band, but the DC trip was the best-DH and I are going to be planning a trip in the next few years.....when I went with school we took the subway the whole time except the 1st day that we did the monuments as they for the most part aren't all that close to everything else and would have been a lot more walking....we also went to the mall there-can't remember the name-Pentagon something maybe?? And it is still to this day the biggest one I have ever been in-5 stories I think...
When I was looking to go to college I wanted to go to Georgetown just to be in the city-and sitting in on congress was for the first little bit very cool, but after about 30mins got a little boring....ooo-and the ceiling in the Capital building-a piece of art!!
Betty-that was so sweet of Diane!!! And to be honest-I love the table just the way it is!!LOL I am a simple gal I tell ya;)
Terry-I loved that one about the husband-at first I was reading as though he was caring, but then when he had her get a 2nd job while he played golf I wanted to poke his eyes out!!
Betty-am so envious of your trip!! I am sending your card today with something special in it-sorry it won't be there by Monday:( But I will be bringing the main gift with me when I come:)
DH and I were talking about it and we decided to make lists of all the places we wanted to go, research them for cost and attractions and such and make a plan of where to go first and when....we are kinda doing the same thing with the house-he wants me while I am off to make a list of all the things we want to do, get samples and work up pricing so we can set a goal. If we don't have a goal, we just spend all our $$ and never get to go anyplace/do anything, but if we set a tangible goal and date, then we are more apt to achieve it....
I am going to Mom's this weekend and not sure if she has her puter back, so I may not be on again til Sunday....
Morning Stacey! How is your weather today? Hope it is starting to warm up for you. It is supposed to be 93 today, but a cold front this week-end, with only 76 for the high!
LK
Betty-Crissy is in Arkansas, not Arizona-that is AZ:)
Liz-you are what about 2hrs from AnnMarie-I used to live in San Jose and then in Fresno;)
Judy, there was no need, don't be rushing out anywhere..normal day, just like any other..already had my special one last year...you have no idea how often I take out that binder and sit and read and enjoy...
Liz anytime you want to make one just say the word and I'll lead you through it..simple straight lines is best to start with so I can show you easy patterns to do so...
Roll of linoleum at Home Depot which I believe is 6X8' is about $30.00 what you want to do is pick one that doesn't have a hard surface to it..the one that looks as though it has several layers of varnish..you want the softer one so that it won't roll at the edges when put it down..also Judy I pick a roll that there are block or lines in it, that way when I measure and want to cut, I simply follow a line..remember, if you've a big area you want to do for under your table you could use the entire 6x8" piece or if it is smaller ones you can cut it up and have several...
So funny, I've about 2 or 3 blocked in already, know where they are? under the rug matt in my living room..looked all over, couldn't find them, then when Sailor was sick the other day and I had to clean a corner of the rug I lifted it and lo and behold there they all were...lol
The nicest part about doing them is you choose complimentary colors and styles which best suits your decor...
Go for it girl...I'll help, honest, I know you've heard me say it before, but have I even led you astray? honest? on a scale of 1 to 10 this project is a 3..how's that...
This one has been on back porch for 2 years, although covered it has had rain on it from time to time..
We got a ton of rain yest-heading to Mom's-she is about 10* cooler-have to get Betty's thing ready to mail with the rest of the mailing items in my bag-going to cut for quilting, hit up a few stores and go to the orchid show tomorrow:)
Thanks Stacey, shucks 2 hrs. drive they could meet midway for coffee and Liz you could bring AnnMarie a few of those treasures..
Ahhhh Arkansas, short forms often confusing to us Canadians...what have you planned for today Stacey...
Going to Mom's for the weekend-some quilt shop perusing, and orchid show and quilt block cutting:) I want to be outta here by noon, so at 11 I have to get off the puter to get all my goodies in the car:)
LOL AR is Arkansas, AZ is Arizona.
UHHH, Shar...you do know I was joshin around right?
couldn't rsesist, not everyday we got a thumbalina in our misdt!
hehehe.
Thanks Betty, will have to go check out the linolium.
I got this rug that I would love to similate and I think the linolium project will be perfect for it.
Oh thats so sweet, As you know we had so much fun with your birthday...
wow, maybe later i will too go visit the thread and smile and laugh in rememberence.
really, now must be off...JoAnns is bound to be open now.
LOL Betty, you Canadians aren't the only people it confuses!
The smilies is shift^shift_shift^ I was doing it backwards shift_shift^shift_ LOL
Dang I don't know what that woman did with the coffee but it is Nasty!
Betty and Mary:
http://www.ushmm.org/

judy you need to get to california asap so we can retrain you lol omg could you just see that bet we would make the 11.00 news for sure.. i already assessed the wood while i was out smoking so there! im going to ask jake if he is running for senate if thats why he needs your phone so much lol see im starting more trouble think i better just go to work lol
Drats..wrote an entire post relating to my trip to Washington D.C. been there several times, infact lost my car there for a day..lol...was I glad to see it late that night..anyway, keyboard acting up again, regular symbol keys doing it's french version, copied so I could past while Cindy worked on it, had to reboot and no more copy in my computer..so here we go again..
Stacey thanks for the link..a must see as well...

Bureau of Engraving and printing -see money made

Fly a kite next to Washington Monument
National Archives Building
Lincoln Memorial
Arlington ntional Cemetery - changine of the Guard ceremoney at the Tomb of the Unknowns
Vietnam Veteran's memorial Wall
Library of Congress
Much much more...
Think it's about $150.00 for the 5 of us to do a tour on the DC Duck..it's a tour on a tram that later enters the Potamac (?) River so see sights from the river.
So, if it is as advertized, lots to do for a few days...
Still no e-mail from Lisa re Caleb and Braedon?
Betty-no need to go to the zoo at this time of year-it is nothin til about May-June-we went there-were very disappointed-only about 30% of animals out til then:(
THe mint (money made) was neat for the first few mins, but the tour takes a while and it gets boring after about the 1st 3rd of it-it is just the same thing over and over-you get a top view of the money press rooms...the national cathedral is wonderful-if you all are going after my visit I will try to remeber to bring pics of my DC trip-I think I took about 7 rolls of film!!
Off to Mom's!!
Have a good day Stacey!
Stacey, you have a great trip, and hope you learn how to sew those squares together.
LK
Hi I am back from the stores...
Woohoo, now it's just relax and play time.
OMG...Liz is on a roll, wonder how her boss is surviving!
Betty, did you bring a project in?
Linda kay...sent you a package finally, duh...nothing like being forever backed up!
but finally it on the way.
Stacey, I hope you have/had a ball sewing today...By the way, love your purple ragbag! turned out real nice.
Hey Tubby, what mischif are you in today?
Seed...I am tough, and I know when you are teasing. Besides, I am 10 feet tall and bullet proof, just in disguise.
House is looking good, and no pictures at the moment, because all you would see is a mess. Will wait till it's done then send pix.
Nice table Betty....It will be beautiful as all your work is.
Also, great to talk with you, too, Judy. Thanks for the call.
Mary, I'll bet your weekends are a ton of fun with all those teenagers. Used to be that way here when my kids were young and at home. They were two years apart and the house was always full of kids. I think most of them called me Mom, and some still do!
Have a great weekend all.
Really warms the heart doesn't it Shar when you met these children who hung out at your house during their youth and they have nothing but good memories of their visits..
Shar, are you on a ladder 10' high, hope is was just a joke..am sure it was...omg I'd be fretting..thanks about the table..I do like it it's just where do you put such things??? Some days coming into my house I begin to wonder if it's a furniture shop..it's a comfortable home size wise, not large but cozy, it's just that i keep painting furniture again and again...
1 1/2 hrs. left..light drizzle, almost like freezing rain..roads are slippery, best I get home and into my jammies..imagine a Friday night and only thinking of hot bath and p.j.'s..whatever happen to Friday night hot dates?
They must know you by now at the fabric store Judy, it's your most favorite place to be these days...no project Judy, everyone is sooo busy around me and here I am trying so hard to keep busy/awake, just glanced at that couch, looks mighty comfy..
Stacey, you are coming in March right, if plans work out we'll be going to Washington Easter weekend mid April..
Off to look what weather is going to be like tomorrow/Sunday so I can organize myself for the weekend...
Betty....the ladder is 8', or something like that...... but it's OK, I have a long handle on the paint roller. The only problem is the trim, the edge that meets the ceiling, but I am pretty steady, even that high off the ground. Not to worry. I have done it before, I can do it again. I am a much better painter than most real house painters.....all those years teaching art pay off. And it drives me crazy to have somebody doing something to my house that I could do myself, so until I can't, I will continue to paint my walls and ceilings. I do keep my cell phone close by and my neighbor checks on me often...so please don't worry.
Bet you wouldn't want anybody else decorating your house either, now would you?? I am not sure I showed you, and if I did it's a repeat, but here is the one narrow wall I finished earlier this week. It is a sort of divider in the great room. I know I showed Judy....
You can see the ladder through the old antique mirror above the computer.
Love the color Shar..warm tones to it...my goodness look at Ethan...when will he be visiting again?
As for having someone in my home? Bernice and Cliff's daughter Michelle is a professional 'stager' I've seen photo's of her work, photo's of her home..gorgeous settings, you know, a lot she's gotten from roadside curb/auctions/2nd hand shops etc. - just has a knack..
She wanted to come and do my house..although I don't think myself Shar as being 'structured' in any way I seem to be in my own home..for example, couch always against the wall, off set corner units..nothing unusual...so I'm always tempted, know it would be quite different from what I have...she goes into your cupboards/storage/linen etc. moves photo's, treasures around and comes up with new setting..just don't know if she did and I changed it back if I'd offend her..and yet it might be stunny....would you try something like this?
I have a friend who works for a place that makes drapes, paints, does upholstery, so she sees herself as a "decorator".....and lives behind me and visits often. She makes "suggestions" and sometimes tries them on me. I usually let her do whatever she wants, then explain to her why I prefer another way. We get along fine. Her house is very structured, mine isn't. I change mine on a whim. And with old pictures and things like that, only we know what is important.
My friend's house is perfect, but there is not much personality. This matches that, and that matches something else. I like mine to have a "feel"....I do value her opinion on big changes, though, but not for everything. So it is nice to have someone to talk things over with. She doesn't sew or do upholstery, so she doesn't interfere with those things. But she would never hang a quilt on a wall, and she would always purchase a bedspread already made before she would use a homemade quilt for a cover. As for me....I like to use things that are home made, like my quilts.
Ethan probably will be here next week, and if not, Easter, I think. My son is having to do a lot of traveling with his job, so he has not made too many weekend trips recently.
My biggest problem Shar is when I buy something I usually have an idea as to where it will go or what I will design it to be..then I place it and it's a stupid phobia I'm sure..once it's in a place, that's it's place forever...honest..so stupid, try to change my ways, but guess to old to do so...
Your friends home sounds much like Sharon's..no warmth to it at all..now she lives in what i would call a mansion, decorated by interior decorator but you walk in and it's almost like walking into one of those show rooms they have in magazines, not one thing that is personal..
I like you feel warmth around my treasures, even though they are far and few between with regards to hand me downs from previous generations..anything I do get or make has to give me a warm feeling inside...I really think I'm an 'old soul' revisiting..with furnishings and treasures...the older the better.. wonder who I was???? lol
Shar I have one of those quilt hangers that fit on the wall, front piece comes off, you insert the quilt and then tighten it ...no room for the new quilt I bought in USA but you've just given me an idea, could hand it on a hallway wall right?
Darlene's parents gave me when I was on the farm, an antique telephone, you know the ones you have to speak in the mouthpiece..Darlene's dad worked for a telephone company so converted the guts so it could be used..I've just got it sitting there, once upon a time it was on the wall next to my bakers hutch..anyway, could also be a weekend project, try to hang it on a wall where there is phone line accessibility..now see Shar, you've not only got YOU working, but you've got a 'to do' list for ME...
When I get home tonight I'll post photo of the quilt holder and hallway and see if you think it might look ok...
I can already tell you that hanging a quilt in the hallway is a good idea, if it is not too long. I have done it myself. And too, if it is a short hallway, it might be hard to see, but you'll know. I also sometimes hang a quilt behind one of the sofas, or the recliners. And I have a Christmas quilt that sometimes I hang, too.
I also do that with my furniture, find a place for it and leave it forever. But I do change tables and lamps occasionally. I think the phone would be great, so do it! See, now you have specific projects for the weekend.
Bet you get them done too.
I need to stop for a break and run to the grocery. Cats are hungry and I am down to the bottom of their barrel. I can always pick up the paintbrush when I get back, now can't I?
Good ONE
Reasons not to mess with children.
A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.
The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah".
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
Th e little girl replied, "Then you ask him".
