PLEASE take a few minutes to visit the last thread, some beautiful art..painting, quilts and woodworking...of course family photo`s warm the heart....
Best/Worse/What did I learnt today...visit with friends #88
LOL, you were close 'tubby'
Judy meant to say congratulations to your sister for continuing her education..very proud you can be..
Audrey, how are you doing..know you were off to the Doctor's...please let us know how you made out?
Nice sunshine day here..might even reach just above freezing...
Betty-do you need me to bring some more exedrin migraine with me??
A couple of friends Stacey and also when I was in USA did a drug run..lol...lots of bottles..it works well for headaches in the process of developing into migraine..usually o nly a needle will work..should have gotten it..but thanks...we've tons of squirrels here Stacey..so why not entertain them and me at same time...lol
WOW! Tubby, you need to sell you houses - maybe on Antsy.com. I'd buy one!! They are AWESOME! I love how rustic they look!
Thank you all for the comments of the quilts! I have to say I love doing them and get so excited as I get to the end. The watercolor one was actually the easiest one. You just have to line up the 2" squares and make the fabric colors blend - from darker on the outsides to lighter in the middle. The hardest part was cutting out the little trees and grasses.
The latest info on the fire is that 2 boys (1 troublemaker, 1 follower) admitted to starting it. I know they were just playing back there so it's not arson but the barn was burned down to the ground so their parents will have a hefty bill to pay. I told DS be glad he was with me and not involved because he would be grounded for LIFE! The second troublemaker boy may not have had anything to do with THIS fire but he was bragging yesterday morning about starting fires back there so in my opinion, he's guilty too. Luckily, the other troublemaker is moving out of the area soon so 1 down, 1 to go!
Isn't it always the way Jeannine, always a few kids labelled 'trouble makers' and not without just cause...how did the soldiers grave fare??
as for the quilts good use of color combination and yes sure does look like a watercolor...trees must have taken steady hands...
Vicki, talking to Greg last night about his snowmobiling..friend of his did a 1,200 kl trek race, not on groomed trails, quite interesting, Greg's going to get the tape so we can watch it...with the economy as is, are you finding less snowmobilers using the trails near you..aren't far from your home right?
The Marti Gras shooting was also two boys, both 18 years old. How old where the boys who started the fires?
What is wrong with these kids nowadays????
Terry thanks for sharing your family! Love those houses, need help with those?
Betty I'm so glad you talked to Bernie.
I'm feeling better today, my voice is almost back and I'm coughing up a lot of lung crud, so I'm glad it's loose and coming up.
Well, I have to take my boss's deputy to the Capitol, then we're having a birthday lunch for my other boss Jeff, then we're having an IT meeting, then I get to go to the dr for my intestinal gassy issues, so I'll see ya'll on the flip side.
That's awfully young to be involved in shooting isn't it..we're having mega trouble on our transit system..think in the past few weeks 3 have been shot..on a bus yesterday, another shot..you just don't know where you are safe..at one time you knew it was schools, not anymore...big controversy here, they've been putting police in a few schools and it seems to be working and even the school youth don't seem to mind, feel safer and yet there are old diehart who say NO POLICE not the place for them...
You sure have a busy slate today Crissy..even playing 'taxi' I'm glad you are gaining strength..waiting to hear how you make out at the Dr.'s...
The 2 boys here are around 11 or 12. Old enough to know better!
Betty the trails are closed right now due to lack of snow in this area. They were only open a couple of months if that. Even tho the trails are in the field across the road we really don't hear much or even see many lights. It runs in a low part behind some trees for part of it.
That is to bad at that age to have that shadow you...I think some counseling would be a good idea????

Entertaining Squirrel Feeder:
Shopping list
1- 1" x 6" x 6' cdog-eared cedar fence board or pine or wood of choice
2 1/2" and 1 5/8" galvanized deck screws
1 1-gallon glass jar
Instructions:
1.
Cut pieces from the 6ft. piece of wood as per layout
2....
Make the jar support (F) by tracing the curve of the jar onto the wood. The lowest point of the curve should be 1: from the bottom of the board. Cut along the line with a saber saw...Place the jar on the support to check that it fits well. Trim the sharp corners off the support (about 1/4" to 1/2" and smooth rough edges with sandpaper..
The curved piece (G) remaining from this will become the end piece.
3.
Cut entrance holes in both side pieces. mark a spot about 3 12/2 inches from the highest corner of each board and center the hole from side to side. Draw a 3" diameter circle with compass, then cut out the holes with a saber saw. smooth edges with sandpaper..
4.
Make a hole in the front of the feeder to hold the neck of the jar. This is a tricky step because jars vary in size. Start by determining the radius of the jar's mouth.
Lay the jar on it's side and measure from the tabletop to the bottom of the mouth. Add these two measurements plus 1". Mark this distance from the bottom of the front board and center. From this point, draw a circle 1/2 inch larger than the diameter of the mouth. Cut the hole with saber saw.
5.
Assemble the front and sides of the squirrel feeder, then attach the assembled pieces to the base. These joints and all others will be fastened with 1 5/8" galvanized deck screws. Cedar splits easily, so be sure to drill pilot holes in each piece before driving in the screws..
6.
Attach the jar support about 3" from the far end of the base. Then position the rounded end piece, which keeps the jar from sliding out of the feeder at enough clearance for you to tip the jar out for filling. If it's too tight, use a rasp to round the inside curved edge. of this end piece until the jar can easily be removed. If the jar is too loose, move the rounded end farther up the base before attaching it..
7.
Predrill holes in the top and bottom of the mounting board. Then attach the mounting board to the feeder with 1 5/8" deck screws
8.
If you'd like to make a veveled edge on the roof piece so it tightly meets the mounting board, cut a 15 degree angle on the back edge of the roof with a table saw then attach it to the feeder
9.
Mount the feeder on a tree with 2 1/2 inch deck screws (this is a heavy feeder-you'll need large scres to mount it securely) fill it with peanuts in the shell, cracked corn or birdseed. Check your watch. It won't be long before you'll be inviting neighbors over to see the entertainment..
Measurements..
Note: although s 6" board the dressed width is approx 5 1/2 "
Roof (e) - 5 1/2 x 8"
Base (b) - approx. 16" x 5 1/2"
Sides (c) 5 1/2" by 9 1/4" one side, shorter side 8" the hole is 3"
*Cut 2
Front (d) - 5 1/2" x 8"
Backing (a) - 5 1/2" wide by 16 " long
Arched bottle support - 5 1/2" wide by 3" high with lower arch 1" high
in center
front (g) - 5 1/2" wide by 2 3/4" high (half moon)
Jar is approximately 10 1/2 " tall..
Tubby, last year about this time I think Liz, Judy and I did a live roof birdfeeder..we had so much fun doing it..will be interesting if those 2 try to make it..I`m sure they have squirrels in California right Liz or in Illinois Judy

I would say some parents need counseling as well.
Vicki, shame, think I paid $180.00 for Greg's trail pass... not sure he gets enough usage out of it to warrant that much..you'd think on a bad season they would refund some of the $$$ but not..
Wow 11 and 12..my grandchildren's age..you are right, not arson but playing and setting fires can have a deadly end to their activity..feel sorry for the parents..now you say Jeannine they will be financially responsible?
You know though Crissy, I've seen many a good parent, everything by the book, children lacking nother and yet, they think this is simply playing and not aware of possible consequences...
The Balm Beach arson was an 18 and 20 year old who were arrested..couldn't give the name out of the 18 yr. old because he was under age at the time of fire...can be disastrous...
http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/281363
Jeannine, these young boys , are either in your children's class?
Betty-the giant olive and pickle jars are the right size-that is what Gpa uses
Going to go shopping for pickles/olives I guess Stacey..think I might have wood for the project but not the jar.. was wondering what I was going to do this weekend...no, wasn't really..am hoping to meet my sister Sharon early Saturday morning and go to Meaford..boutiques, big wharehouse..got my eye on a metal round gazebo with benches at each corner..was there last year..probably not there this year..just looking..fill in the day..have lunch..maybe even go to the waterfront...candle shop etc.
I hope you really like pickles or olives as those jars hold A LOT of them!! If you have trouble finding them, LMK, Costco here has the gimongo jar of pickles for like $3.50
Funny, the photo doesn`t give me the visual of a gallon jar..will have to do some measurement...I need something to keep ME busy when you visit...
LOL I'm not blaming the parents, they need counseling after all of that drama their kids have caused. Either a kid is going to go down the wrong road or he/she isn't. Just depends upon what crowd we like to hang with I guess.
I have no idea what I'm going this weekend, might stay home and if Dave's off send him out by himself, I hope he's off this weekend but he said he's going to call in sick. He got into it with one of the dayshift guys again, plus he has my cold. He's getting to where he calls in sick at least once a week and they're still doing layoffs at his company, I'm afraid he's going to angry and sick his way out of a job. Also depends upon what my dr says today about my guts and how this cold is doing, the way it's been breaking up I'm hoping it will be almost gone by then. It's the weekend for the Arkansas Home and Garden show too, I really want to go to that!
Hello To All - Just checking in for a minute. My computer is acting up so probably need to send it in soon. When I do....you'll probably know.... :)
I have some squirrels I can send your way ! :)
They eat the dog food at my back door....
More later,
Mary, Baton Rouge, LA
Such encouraging news about your brother, Betty.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
You are all so talented with all your crafts.
That squirrel feeder is cute..
My squirrels just get in my bird feeders and eat the sunflower seed.
Jeannine..I love that watercolour quilt..looks so intricate.
Did I mention that I think I saw a robin yesterday? Out in my backyard..been watching for it today a bit..haven;t seen it again.
When I was at the dentist I told him..and he said one of his other patients had seen one a short time ago too.
Seems early for them..but makes me hopeful for an early spring.
OMG Carol, spring can`t be far away then..know this morning although I couldn`t see them, I sure could hear birds..not sure what kind..perhaps a blackbird...or you know them ass-ups..lol
Carol, when I make a squirrel feeder, I`ll make two, one for you and one for me..they should be fun to watch..not that I`m encouraging them but they are here so might as well let them entertain us right
Calling for sunshine for the next 4 or 5 days, much the same for your area..
Looking around with all the debris of winter, looks drab, dirty doesn`t it...
I posted this on last thread..Had to make sure you see..I'm bad.LOL
Doe41..Copy that..(Tubby, my Sweetie is 74!)
4 more years & look out..Yee Haw..LOLLOL

Can't you just picture this.LOL
This one is for everyone who...
a) has kids
b) had kids
c) was a kid
d) knows a kid
e) is going to have kids.
I guess that means all of us!!
I was packing for my business trip and my three year old daughter was having a wonderful time playing on the bed. At one point she said, 'Daddy, look at this' , and stuck out two of her fingers.
Trying to keep her entertained, I reached out and stuck her tiny fingers in my mouth and said, 'Daddy's gonna eat your fingers,' pretending to eat them.
I went back to packing, looked up again and my daughter was standing on the bed staring at her fingers with a devastated look on her face.
I said, 'What's wrong, honey?'
She replied, 'What happened to my booger?

You need to borrow that lemon canon..LOL
Now that I'm older I thought it was great that I seemed to
have more patience. Turns out I just don't give a 'hoot'.
The Importance of Walking
Walking can add minutes to your life.
This enables you, at 85 years old,
to spend an additional 5 months in
a nursing home at $7000 per month.
My grandpa started walking
five miles a day when he was 60.
Now he's 97 years old
and we don't know where he is.
I like long walks,
especially when they are taken
by people who annoy me.
The only reason I would take up walking
is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.
I have to walk early in the morning,
before my brain figures out what I'm doing..
I joined a health club last year,
spent about 400 bucks.
Haven't lost a pound.
Apparently you have to go there.
Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise',
I wash my mouth out with chocolate.
I do have flabby thighs,
but fortunately my stomach covers them.
The advantage of exercising every day
is so when you die, they'll say,
'Well, he/she looks good.'
If you are going to try cross-country skiing,
start with a small country.
I know I got a lot of exercise
the last few years,......
just getting over the hill.
We all get heavier as we get older,
because there's a lot more information in our heads.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Every time I start thinking too much
about how I look, I just find a Happy Hour
and by the time I leave,
I look just fine.
You could run this over to your friends,
But just save yourself and e-mail it to them instead!
Too funny...out of all the onces posted I picked this one:
The only reason I would take up walking
is so that I could hear heavy breathing again
Lol
closing up shop...talk later...
In honor of the mother of the octuplets,
Denny's is offering a new breakfast meal called the Suleman:
You get eight eggs, no sausage, and the guy next to you has to pay the bill.
betty, nice squirell feeder! Now I have a project I can do tomorrow! teehee! will just head on out to DHs workshop while he is at work and surprise him when he comes home! LOL!
I found this squirell feeder online, took a pix of it out to DH and he cut up the wood and put it all together....course I had to paint it! lol! I do have a pix somewhere of a squirell actually sitting on the seat eating the corn...think its stored on my other puter tho :o(
feeder is actually mounted to the telephone pole in my back yard, up high enough so my 7 yo neighbor can wtch them out his bedroom window :o) His mom said that because of me, he is paying alot more attention to the animals in the neighborhood. He now knows the difference between a sparrow and a finch...knows that racoons are bad news if they are headed into my yard! lol! and loves to come hang out with my chickens! teehee!
Isn't that cute LOL
Betty ..so sweet of you to offer to make a squirrel feeder for me when you make yours.
You are so generous. Thank you.
the only problem with feeding squirells nuts is...they tend to bury them in my garden...when they do that, they dig up all my pretties! :o(
forgot to mention that I did hear back from my Dr :o( I was soooo mad! logged into my email last night, something I dont check very frequently....and guess what? instead of calling me, she sent me an email!! GRRR!! I sent her back a scathing email telling her I never check email, and that I was told to expect a phone call! Anyhow, she called me today and is sending me to a urologist to see what the issue is. I refuse to get all upset over the urologist.... really am trying to talk myself into thinking positive! see me Dr isnt really a Dr, she is a nurse practitioner...so very little experience with CT scans and ultrasounds... so thinking that just because she cant read it doesnt mean its something bad. Now I just get to sit and wait for them to make the new appt with the specialist :o(
Isn't that the pitz AnnMarie..omg I'm always looking at office e-mail but here at home sometimes it's weeks, keep forgetting about it..trying now to organize myself to check them from work computer...don't you fret, they are just making sure everything and that's good...you just might be prone to kidney infections...
Love the squirrel feeds, two little chairs and a cob of corn..how adorable is that...
Carol, no problem, when you cut, you make a mess so not much more kaos than with one...I'm sure in your orchard there will be one tree that's just waiting for a squirrel feeder...
I know it's only 6:40 but I'm going to lay down..so laughed had 3 calls since I've been home ..the girls painted today..all said the canope drapes looked precious in my bedroom so I'll keep it a little longer...photo doesn't do it justice and yet I thought maybe it looked tackey..either it doesn't or there are a few ladies who like tackey things....most said their hubbies would never let them do it, me, I'm alone so doesn't make much difference..lol
Aline who is a good friend and who paints here was one, she, her sister and BIL Brian drove to Florida to spend 2 weeks with her dad..they take turns driving straight through..Brian is a bus driver so use to long hours...they got back Monday...Aline was painting when my phone rang, it was her sister saying Brian just had a heart attack..he's comfortable right now Aline said, they are doing all kinds of tests so let's hope it's a warning and nothing more...
All enjoyed their day here today, most finished their projects, others started new projects..miss them but work is work...they keep trying to get me to ask Paul for 1 day off a week so I can paint with them...lot's of luck..
Off I go..
Do hope you all enjoy your evening.....

so, howwah bout it.
Shar...Hello, Bev...
Jeannine, Yikes on the trouble makers...
Your quilts are beautiful as usual. I do like the dark to light one...still learning the names of different quilts.
Yours are turning out beautifully.
Crissy, I am sorry you are not feeling well. Poor baby take time to snuggle and get well.
So see you in a bit.
Got to tell ya true story from tonight..
Shirley said let me tell you where the hot dog buns are
Just in case I forget to bring them up..
I said if you go get them now you won't have to worry about forgetting.
You know her hands do fit around my neck..LOL
We had a long hard laugh, after I cleared my throat.LOL
See what she puts up with
Tubby
