These came from trade seeds, but my recollection of the packet label could be wrong...
LOL, isn't this the same way I got into growing my other Heliopsis? Mislabeled trade seeds?
From the leaves also, mine isn't a Tithonia.
Hey -- I think I've got it -- not Mexican, but Maximillion Sunflower! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/928/
(I was close... sorta... guess this is yet another reason to know things by their botanical names LOL)
Let’s Swap some plants! Ric & Holly’s
No, just don' t confuse your Mexicans with your Maximillians!!
LOL, your Not Mexican Sunflower
You could develop a 'not' garden !
Speaking of confusing Mexicans with Maximillians, Mexico had an Emperor named Maximilian I, a Hapsburg from Austria. It didn't go over very well!
Anyone need clean new drywall buckets? I have lids too. I don't know about plants yet, but I do have a bazillion of a plant whose name I can never remember - I'll figure it out and edit it in here.
Now I remember, Rose Campion, Lychnis coronaria. I guess they would bloom next year.

See, I knew there was a connection!
You can never have too many buckets... compost tea, storing birdseed, collecting weeds or garden debris...
BTW, I'm pretty sure those big divisions of green hostas came from you last fall, Clay... my MIL just sent me photos... they're up and looking great!
Do they live down south? I just see nubs here. I still have more of those plain green hostas and Hosta 'Undulata Univittata'. Way too many... but they look really cool when they come up around red tulips. After that, well, you only need so many.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/3714/
They're in NC, so their nubs have unfurled into leaves. :-)
claypa- I'll be able to give you some Minnow daffs. Found the clumps and one needs to be thinned out.
Sweet - in case you're wondering, you got the really good Hostas, not the "plain" green - even though they're... plain green... lol.
LOL--plain green! Yup, its the white part that I'm looking forward to!
Deal done- and I have shoots starting up from the Hostas in question. and boy are they getting watered today.
Clay, if you want some with reverse variegation (creamy white margins, like 'Patriot'), let me know. I love the one with the white "flame" in the center! Are you looking for daffs?
I would love to come by some very old double daffs or white daffs. Is it not to early to move them at this time?
doc---
What do you call "old double daffs"????
I have a small "bunch" of the double/tripple daffs that are, what i call, "wild" Daffs.
They are yellow with some green in the blooms....
When i first bought my home, i dug some up in the woods....Haven't seen them much--since....Now that my daffs. are blooming--i see one bunch in this category.
I should take a picture of them.....see what you say......
G.
claypa - raising hand for a few of of the "drywall buckets" please and thank you.
Doc, I've got 'Cheerfulness' (white with a touch of yellow at the base of the cup) and 'Yellow Cheerfulness', but they are late bloomers, so they might not be ready to dig before the swap (they'll do better if the foliage has a chance to feed the bulb). If they've increased this year, I'll try to lift a few... I can always store the bulbs and ship to you in fall.
'Yellow Cheerfulness' (fragrant, too!)
Ok Chantell, you have buckets and lids coming your way. I'll just bring a bunch in case anyone else wants some too.
Buttoneer, that's a nice picture. The view from the windows is very big for me here, I try to plan the garden around how it looks from inside quite a bit. It's coming along, slowly..
Critter, I'm always up for a hosta I don't have, or daffodils. Whatever - I'm making a bunch of plant markers out of "Galvalume" (55% aluminum-zinc alloy coated sheet steel, same stuff guard rails are made of only much thinner material). I think they look nice, better than white plastic anyway, and they should last forever. They seem to take pencil real well and a paint marker pen should work great too.
I'd appreciate any suggestions for sizes or shapes for these things. I make them from scrap at a jobsite.
Those are great! I'd make them in a size that can take an Avery clear laser label (I'm using the 5660 labels on my EON markers.) Or... are they thin enough that you could engrave/indent labels with a ballpoint pen?
I don't know, I wondered about the engraving - scratches on this stuff are supposed to "self-heal", but I wonder if the engraved part would rust and not the other part. We should experiment, but the closest thing I had to an engraver was destroyed in a spectacular way (roto-zip with the wrong bit, wasn't me! lol )
I forget what guage the steel is, but they are quite stiff, not like aluminum flashing. A pen wouldn't leave an impression at all.
Not familiar with those labels, tell me how big and I'll make some. Or maybe I can google it up.
edit: Does 1" x 2 5/8" sound right? I guess there should be a margin, so a little bigger than that?

claypa,
I always 'fit" the label to the size pot.
Funny--but time-consuming story....
I cut up a bunch of mini-blinds to use as labels in my cell packs where I am growing all my seeds....Labeled them, sowed them and when the seedlings came up and I had to move them under the lights--they all were too tall (stuck up more than 2") and I had to pull each one out and trim an inch off the bottom....UGH!
Your labels look neat! What do you use to cut them?
G.
Beautiful labels! Could look very nice with paint marker lettring. I guess if wanted you could punch a hole with a nail?
I came across some interesting ones made from discarded sample accent cerami c tiles from a pool tile seller. Wire wrap on the corners to make a hanging tag.
John and I are both looking forward to seeing you folks that we know and also meeting some new people. I hadn't read the thread for a while and what I read this morning has me excited.
I saw a few things that I am interested in but am going to make my requests known via dmail. I don't want to get lost in the midst of all the other banter.
I am going to do as Jill said she did, re-read the thread. I am sure that I can think of plants that were offered earlier that I now want to have.
Here is hoping that everyone will have a great week coming up.
Ruby
Gitagal............old daffs = wild daffs but back in the early days they were imported as the best of the year. I found my one old or wild daffs out along the railroad tracks where someone must have dumpped a bunch and just let them go on from there. I got out my trusty theiving small shovel and went on a daff theiving hike. LOL There may be twenty or so in that planting now some four or five years after planting in my back yard.
Your doubles or triples with a touch of green are exactly what I was referring to. I have never heard the word triples but then I never paid much attention to flowers until you folks warpped my mind. I love them because visitors here often have never seen them. They are beautiful in their own form color and shape. I figured there might be some that followed in lemon to white although I have not ever seen them.
Yes, the Avery clear laser labels (5660) are 1x 2 5/8", and yes I would make the label a little wider than that (maybe 1 1/4") so you don't have to be ultra precise. I can get a good bit of info on that size label, and so far they seem to be holding up despite my bright bright sun here. I don't know if you caught my article on labeling methods, but the laser labels seem to be the best thing I've found so far.
doc--
funny how we all "found" a bunch of "wild daffs"....
I have been in my house now close to 40 years....
When there was still all kinds of construction going on around here--when all was dug up and the woods were still around--I once spied a bunch of these daffodils....
Of course--I dug them up and took them home--but that was eons ago!
Haven't seen them in my beds since--and NOW! I see a couple of small bunches! They are in abed that has not had anything new added--really, nor do i dig it up much....WHERE did they come from???? Can regular daffs turn into these "old"/"wild" daffs???? Have to remember to take a pic tomorrow.....
Also--the Coleus you said you have---are they regular or the Sun Coleus? Any interesting colors?
******************************************
Tonight I have read through this whole post again and I may have a couple of requests......
LadyG.
a few of your Coleus cuttings, please....
Jill,
A cutting from your Coral Honeysuckle, please....some rooted, scented geranium...and directions on growing it.
Can you suggest a determinate Tomato for a large pot that will "behave"???
SallyG & ladyG--,
If you have enough--I would be interested in your pink, hardy geranium. My blue one from last year seems to have almost petered out....WHY? There is one, tiny clump of green leaves showing! This one is/was pretty ground-hugging....just bought it last year at HD. Hope i still have the receipt!
Buttoneer--
Trying you as well! If you have an extra plant of the yellow, hardy geranium (picture on 3/22)--I would be interested.
...edited my "Haves" list tonight......NOT final yet....
Thanks to all! Gita
Gita, That's not a geranium. It's a greater celandine poppy but if you still want it, I have more.
Gita, No problem with your requests, my coleus cuttings are ready to give out more cuttings. They really want to be outside, but I keep telling them it is too cold, just slow down growing for a little longer.
I was outside for a bit today, spotted some more of the pink hardy geranium in spots I don't want it so there will be enough. Just hope there will be room in the trunk for everything to ride safely.
They are calling for "Lake Effect" Snow storm Tuesday afternoon. They way this weather is going I'll be outside in a winter coat digging up swap plants.
I would like anything for the shade.
I am also looking for anything for full sun that is a true blue.
For now I know I will have Stella De Oro daylilies
Sally-I'll take a daisy
Bec-I'll take a viola white czar
Jill- very interested in Basil and scented geranium
Thanks a bunch all!!!!
doc- I have a bunch of " wild" yellow and green double daffs. I personally don't care for the green in them but they are unusual. I took a picture yesterday., I found one really nice yellow. Would you like to see a pic of the green ones?
hart - I am waiting very soon to see blooms on the doubles you gave me.
jen- daisy for you!
Gita, I don't have any reason to think that the coral honeysuckle will be better behaved than the Lonicera americana you've declared you don't have room for... my coral is a smaller plant at the moment than the other, but I'm pretty sure that's just because it's younger. I'm not unwilling to share, just being cautious about giving you a potential thug. :-) The scented geraniums are tender and like sun... I grow mine in pots that are 12 inches or more across, but that's because I like them big. You could plant them in the ground and take cuttings to overwinter in 4-6 inch pots (that's what a grower at our farmers' market does).
I found some more interesting basils in my stash (clove, camphor, green pepper, purple petra, windowbox) and just sowed them... If I have room, I'll sow some more Italian basil also, or just bring a few seeds along so there's enough to go around.
Sally, that's a great looking daff! Your little Haweras are coming up, but no blooms yet. Gita's naked ladies are also sending up leaves. :-)
Will be digging up the violas as soon as they bloom - only way to know which one is what :-) As a matter of fact I am digging them all up (to the best of my ability - they have multiplied) -
I will have COPIOUS amounts of MG's people - I'll shoving them on you!
Gita, Jill - the lilac's are doing great - but, I need pictures if possible - that way I can figure out which one is which - please! I know I got one more (yellow, I think) & for the life of me can I remember who gave it to me - anyone?
Thanks Jill - this way I'll know which one is Aunt Erna - I think I know which one is which ^_^
I planted them all in a large pot that I have on the stairs right by my front door - I know I'll have to plant them in the ground eventually, but they have done amazingly well in the pot!
Would anyone like a couple of Rose of Sharons?
Bec, my hand goes up for a Rose of Sharon, how big is it? I will be coming by car, hopeing I would need a 8 wheeler LOL This is a case of eyes bigger then trunk of car.
Jill,
Your American Honeysuckle WAS too big for where I planted it, grew too rampant and killed my Clematis that I planted it next to. It had to be moved--and as luck would have it--my Store Manager at HD was begging to have some Honeysuckle to grow in the back of his garden. I told him I had two I wanted to find new homes to....soooooo...:o)
Dug it up--he planted it in his garden and--both of us are happy campers now. He was telling me, excitedly, how the new growth was coming from the stems last Fall.....I even took pictures of the blooms and made a copy for him.
He is such a nice man--I would do anything for him....
So--my request of the Coral Honeysuckle is so I can give him that one as well--after I have rooted it....IF you don't have enough of it--you don't have to bring it --as it is NOT for me....
I am looking for a nice new Clematis to plant where I dug up the Honeysuckle.
Will buy one--unless someone has a decent size rooted one...????
Bec----
Here is a picture of my Lilac. I have always know this bush to be a French Double----
I have had it for eons!!!! The rooted plant I gave you was "once upon a time" a sucker I dug up and grew in a pot over about 4 years...I hope it will be the same as Mama in blooms.....Has it bloomed for you yet?
Not sure if "French Doubles" are grafted of not....
G.
That works, Gita! I was just afraid you'd looked at the little plant I have here and thought, oh, that one would work better for me. :-)
Jill,
WHERE did you have a picture of the Coral Honeysuckle????
I scrolled back up this whole post--did not see it. Will check PF.....
I didn't post a photo. I meant you had seen it (I thought) when you were here in fall.
Jill - I kept the honeysuckle & the clematis you gave me in their pots & they are happily growing UP the drainpipe (I'm sure not a good thing - be the HOA)
Gita, I think it is the lilac you gave me that is full of buds now ^-^
Lady, RoS is yours, I'll keep it nice & neat for you until I come up - I keep chopping it down, it keeps growing back!
