Let’s Swap some plants! Ric & Holly’s

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi Holly,

Your plugs look great!! I that stone flooring that you have the flats placed on is very attractive too!! I'm thinking that next year I should do plugs instead of all this seed sprouting. It saves some time and equipment to do it this way.

Could you please elaborate on what an HGHA co-op is?

Looking forward to seeing you at the swap.

Regards

Teri

I belong to a local Hobby GreenHouse Assoc. Members in the Assoc have a plug Co-op in the spring. Since I joined last year after orders were placed this is my first experience trying this.
I started a thread with more pics of the plugs and a list of what all I got. We will see what has survived come swap time.

LOL on my stone floor, Our house is passive solar and I have an insulated concrete slab as part of my floor. Originally we were going to put ceramic tile over the concrete and hard wood on the rest of the floor. But I changed my mind Ric & I disagreed on what and how to do the floor. One day he came home with these inexpensive linoleum floor tiles and put them over the concrete and he painted the plywood sub-flooring as a temp measure to protect the floors until we could agree. That was more than 15 years ago. LOL

See what I have come up with so far - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6191750

Ooh, Becky... pretty please may I have some viola odorata? Is that Jasmine the same hardy one I got when you ordered from Brushwood last year? (I need to check its name!)

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Yup, sure can do - and yes, that is the same jasmine

I am rooting cutting from my 2 coleus, Alabama Sunset and Sedona. I also have a trailing coleus Chocolate Drop that I'll be rooting also. Anyone interested let me know so I can make plans on what to bring. Trade not necessary. Love to share.

I just noticed that my Lonicera americana (non-invasive but large-growing honeysuckle) is starting to bud out, so I need to cut it back and stick some cuttings... Looks like I should be able to take some cuttings of my newer coral honeysuckle also (I think Miata wanted this one, don't know who else.. it's from a piece I split from the trade plant I gave to Hart a couple years ago) and probably also that jasmine -- neither of those totally died back this winter, still have some dormant looking leaves on them, amazing.

I *love* trailing coleus! :-)

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Ladygardener, I would love some of each of the 3 coleus. I have some coleus "Freckles" and "The Flume" if you want some cuttings from them.

And Jill, yes I do still want some of your coral honeysuckle please.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

miatablu, I'll be glad to try your Coleus' I'll add you to my list.

"Freckles" should compliment Sedona nicely, a real punch of orange in the bed.
And The Flame will add a different leaf structure. I don't have a big choice of coleus verity in my area, the nursery that I get my plants from only have a few new verities each year. I try to overwinter the mother plant and a few cuttings to be on the safe side.

WHO was it at the seed Swap that wanted another Maya Brug cutting--and I said I would bring her one??????
Please help me remember......To me--a promise IS a promise!

And--NO! I will not have any others of this Brug to share.
I will have a few of the Rose Souvelons Brug--a pink one.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Lady, Please add me to your list for each of the Coleus. I did get coleus plugs but I don't know what they are yet. I was told they would be a mix but right now they all look the same. I was really looking forward to planting a lot of Coleus, I really like the Alabama Sunset.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

coleus is never a bad thing.... I am going to be bringing a bunch as well

Does anyone have purple or blue Siberian Iris? I had one in my water garden but it got chocked out by a very agressive plant, now have plant under control, Bad plant!! Will plant the new one in its own pot. Don't need a lot just a couple.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

just bought mine last year... none to share yet... maybe next year
:(

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Can anyone tell me what kind of jasmine this is. I would be willing to take a few cuttings off this new plant, if I had some instruction as to how to handle it.

I also have some new french tarragon which I might be able to get a piece or two from, depending on how much it grows.

I might have some nicotiana, and some ox eyed daisies (if all goes well).

It looks like my blushing suzie vine might take off.

I think I will have one or two red and white baby's breath (supposedly perennials).

Notice how unsure I am that I will be totally successful at this. Oh well, it's worth a try.

Let me know who is interested and what I need to do to have them travel well.

R_R_R, LOL, on your unsure comment. I have hundreds of plant plugs and haven't put them up for grabs yet as I don't know if I can keep them alive until the swap. LOL I want to do Hibiscus and Boggie cuttings anyone have a suggestion or link? If not it will be cut, root-tone and stick in the ground.Might put a plastic bag over them, too.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

This site has some clear instructions about root hibiscus cuttings.

ladyg!!! I have Siberian Iris for you!! As much as you could possibly want. It's been spreading for years and doesn't bloom well in the same , progressively shadier, mapleyrooteyer , spot. Someone (betty?) told me it'll be OK if moved to a new site; that they self-inhibit in the same spot after some years. Or maybe it was betty that got it from me at hart's....

Is there interest in herbs? I'm hoping to have some extra basils again to share, and I'll try to root scented geraniums and get some nice little thyme divisions in time for the swap... Does anybody have requests? Should I see if one of the greek oreganos needs dividing? Look for volunteers of my yellow ox-eye (Heliopsis hel. var. scabra, aka "not chocolate daisy")? Pot up extra winter sown columbines? See if I can get some rooted cuttings of various climbers? Bring extra tomato or pepper plants?

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Oh! Sallyg thanks! Not a lot just enough to pot up and put in the watergarden, they grow in standing water.

And Jill, scented geraniums sounds nice too. I use to grow quite a few when I went through my herb and pot-pourri phase. Oh, how our tastes in gardening change.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I would appreciate some thyme, Critter. At this time I have basil, parsley, rosemary and french tarragon seedlings. Any other herbs would certainly be welcomed.

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

I would have herb interest. Rose Mary, basil, marjourum, parsley.

My give a ways are being determined....There will be some violets, some christmas cactus and maybe some coleus and some Sedum Autum Joy.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Critter I would love some scented geraniums if you get them to take

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'll do my best to get some SGs ready... the rose scented ones (Attar of Roses and Snowflake Rose, probably also Cocoa Mint Rose) are pretty easy... they'll even root in water. Maybe it's time to put together that bubbler... LOL

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

docgipe----

Remember--You owe me an AV--since you did not make it to the seed Swap!

I owe you a NBC and a red Epi---and a jar of my home-made Cranberry sauce----as agreed, long time ago!

Gita

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Me forget a deal like that? Never.....you may have your pick of my load whatever it shall become above and beyond the special violet.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Bubbler???? You mean the supplies I purchased - ohhhh 6 months ago...mercy...if I was brave enough to show a shot of my "dining room"....hmph - I think not

Anyone interested in http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57635/

Hardy Geranium, Claridge Druce.
I know I'll have some to share. When they get untidy I just give them a crew cut and they green right up again.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I would love one of those LG... nice color!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I would also be very happy with one of those Claridge Druce geraniums, Lady.

Just what I was looking for!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I just added a hardy geranium to my Haves also,
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2784/
An odd but nice shade of pink flower. Winter hardy foliage that colors some too. I have about eight cutttings in two pots that look good. I piled some compost on the exposed stems of the plant and yesterday pulled two creeping stems that looked like they added roots in response to my dirt.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

those are nice as well

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

I'd love a plant of either geranium, Oh yes, I am going to pot up some Greater Celandine Poppy. Mine is the double petalled variety. I got the seeds from a friend in the UK years ago and it is a hardy hardy perennial. As a matter of fact, stays green all winter. The leaves are lacy and pretty & so are the small flowers. They spread but as pretty as these guys are, who cares? You can always dig them up & replant or swap them. If you look them up, you will see single flowers but mine are doubles. Here's a pix. (see the little bee on the flower?)

Buttoneer- that's a WANT for me!!

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Guess I am being a down right party pooper............however Mother has dished me up a dandy dose of pneumonia. The medicine is in and going down. I am begining to feel better with more than enough time to heal and re-strengthen the body in April.

We have reduced our gardening to patio edges only and pots thereon. Just can not do the work anymore. We will have an offering for the swap but am not quite sure what it will be as of this hour.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Doc, your health is more important than the plants. Just take it easy & rest up. Drink some kickapoo joy juice.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Of course, your 'doc' wisdom is always a great swap item!

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Doc, you take care. We want you better for the swap so we can enjoy your company. The plants are a good excuse for us all to get together.

I'll add all you ladies that want the geranium, I just don't want bring 10 of one plant and find out only 2 really want one or two and have to drag the rest back home. Just trying to bring what everyone is interested in.

Sally, that is a pretty geranium I not sure if I have that one. I do have one that behaves the same way.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Doc, Take good care of yourself. I've had a case or two of pneumonia, just exhausting. Took quite a long time for me to get back on my feet, too. You know the best thing at the swap is the people. We hope you will feel well enough to come, don't worry about how many plants you have. Just save your strength for the trip.

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

I'm on the mend................a month should sure get me more than able to make the RU. I re-start my health club light exercise in a day or two. At that point I will know how far down this nasty illness put me down. Easy does it but I will be up and kicking about...more or less soon.
