dehair - yup. Thread of some kind. But after waxing, to remove hairs that were too short for the wax to work on. I was there, but had my glasses off - she held one end tight in her teeth and did it like a pincher movement - looked like a very weird game of cat's cradle. never had that done before.
IRIS - if the rhizome is just slightly soft, it might just be your plants coming out of freezing. But if it's soft enough to be considered mushy, yes, you have a serious problem called rot, which will kill the plant. When this happens to mine, the green leaves are on the babies (called pups or increases) and the mush is on the momma rhizome. Leaving the iris planted as is, you can take a spoon and scrape all the mush off that you can find. (I thought this sounded crazy, but yes, it works best with a spoon.) Then take some Comet and a dry toothbrush and scrub the naked areas. If you need to dig it all up, do so, carefully scrap away the mush - which is yellow and mealy in the early stages, brown later on. If it's a bit red it will stink to high heaven. If it's red, I dig it up and the ground around it for 12 inches and through it all away. It's that contagious.
best way to prevent rot or rot spread, keep your iris bed clean and clear of fallen leaves and old iris leaves. be vigorous on the cleaning. After my DH blows the fallen tons of oak leaves, I take the blower and blow everything off my irises. We have to do it several times through the fall and winter.

DANG... I want something to bloom in my yard... !!!!
Well, I guess I'm not as tough as I thought... maybe those ants did get me too much... I haven't been up to myself all day... even layed down and fell asleep this afternoon... woke up just in time to go get Mike at school... I even forgot to cook supper... so, we stopped at Subway.
I'll be better tomorrow.
I know the feeling BJ....those aren't in MY yard....they are in one down the street....there are so many that I really feel like they should share.....wonder if I should ask if I can transplant a few to My yard.....lol.
You take care....I have to say I do not miss the Ants from OK,TX and CA....!!! We mostly just have little black annoying ones....but nothing that really stings.
Think we are going to have MoPo Tofu for dinner tonight.....not really on the diet....but it is sooo good and I have a craving for something spicy...
Was just looking at an old Polymer Cafe.....think I will make some vampire dust bunnies to keep my regular ones company
whew Im tired.. lol
I had 2 customers today come by from an ad on craigslist and buy gardenias.. yipppeeee
I planted up 8 hanging baskets with ferns, top dressed part of a bed with old soil, papered and mulched it. I worked outside almost all day and just came in.. Housework didnt get done and the kids wanted quick dinner so that was nice..
Thanks for the comments on the towel cake.. I thought about adding a few treats and a bottle of puppy shampoo but didnt have the extra money to go get it yet, Have places and design in mind but she wanted to see a basic one done..
BJ you rubbed off on me today... LOL I found a palm tree pot full of fire ants after I started cutting the pot off the plant root ball.. Luckily I noticed them before they got me too bad (only a few bites in between my fingers.. )
Trisha those are sooo pretty.. I think I woul dask them if they coul dremember you when they thin them out. I have a neighbor that has a ditch full of pretty cannas that they mow over.. I asked last year and they told me I was welcome to as many as I wanted.. So I dug a bunch up and gave them to my mom..
Cindy your DH's eagles are beautiful.. Myself Im more into wolves.. and of course my few favorite Boyds...
Well I better run for now.. Max has the night off so we are gonna curl up and watch a scary movie toegther after I get all the dirt off of me..
I can't wait to get started on the quilt and will post pics when I can-I will have to start getting pieces cut out at mom's this weekend and then will have to go back for the sewing-we are going to an orchid show on Sat (free admission) at MSU-I am waiting for her to call me-need to know the weather to know if I can come on Fri, do some quilt shop browsing and a joann's run, then on Sat go see the orchids and then come home....if I don't find any fabric I like just as much I may have to break down and get some from fatquartershop.com.......
Bonnie-thanks for the tip on the iris-hope I won't need it, but the odds are I will....I have about 1/2 my iris displaying green shoots:) But with all the thawing and freezing , I have had some heaving that I know is NOT good for them:(
I have never heard of that dehairing B4, but I think I get the jist....
Those are such pretty crocus!!
Cindy-My gpa has a collection of eagles too-DH has one-it is a hand spun glass eagle tipped in gold-he got it at the renaissance fair one year...
Cody, that is beautiful.
What did I do this evening... practically nothin' but veg on the chair and watched 2 movies. Changeling and Kung Fu Panda. Truly unwinding, both of us.
Niece, you can find many good quilting fabrics on sale, online. They are expensive, but you want your work to last not just after a few washings.
Judy, I got your dmails!!!!!!! You are welcome sistah and your work is amazing!!!
Shame on you Trisha.. now you making me wish for a bowl of something spicy!!!!
Donna, wish I'm living close by, will certainly buy gardenias from you.
Darn, my star magnolia's not in bloom yet. I love them too Cody.
Bonnie, will paste and copy your tips.. nothing coming up except for the daffies.

Twisted my foot the other day...it only bothers me part of the time, can't figure that one out....it is okay for awhile....then I will be limping around for part of the day....

Trisha, is that the baby you did? It's amazing! How big is it?
Before I forget, I hope you all are feeling better that have been out of sorts. Thank you also for your prayers for my mom.
Mom may get to come home today. Dad and I don't think she's ready. When we left yesterday she hadn't walked yet. They did take the catheter out yesterday and she said she felt so much better when that was gone. She had another accident yesterday, this time sitting in the chair. She doesn't have any warning when it's going to happen, just explodes. The surgeon said when you operate on the small bowel it makes them angry and it takes a while for them to settle down. They were going to bring a potty chair to sit by her bed, but they hadn't done that when we left yesterday either. They also said they were going to take her central line out, still not done when we left. She is off her drips. She's eating solid food, but it isn't very tasty and she doesn't have much of an appetite. She does like the Luigi's cherry ice and when she couldn't eat her lunch asked if she could have some of that. Her sugar hasn't been too bad considering all she's been through and they're watching it really good, too.
She'll be going to TCU (Transitional Care Unit) at Otterbein when she gets out. Probably stay there for at least 2 days. I'll be glad when I don't have to go sit there at the hospital. It's so tiring...whine, whine...
I've spent a lot of time with Dad and I see him failing in a lot of ways I hadn't noticed before. He has trouble hearing and understanding some things, and if you say something regarding it later, he doesn't remember the conversation at all. He's having a lot of knee problems which I think I may have already told you about. He did get the cortisone shot yesterday at 11:00. The Dr. said it should work between 5 minutes and 4 hours. When we parted it still hadn't started to work yet. It's very frustrating for him, cause he WANTS to move about and the pain makes it difficult. He hates using the cane but can't get around without it with the pain in his knee right now. I haven't spoken with him today yet, so I'm hoping that the shot has kicked in by now.
I sat in the swing and waited for Dad to come yesterday. The sun felt so good. I wanted to be cleaning up the garden, but my daughterly responsibilities come first.
Just talked to Dad. Still no relief in his knee. I talked to our friend last night who has had many cortisone shots and he said his take at least a day to work, sometimes two. So I told Dad and I think that made him feel better. He said he'd just "hang in there".
I'm thinking I may have lost several plants with the fridged weather we had this winter. I did push the bounderies on a couple. Oh well, I'll just have to beg at the RU!!!!
I have several wonderful starts of brugs in the window and they're all doing good. I'm excited to get them in the ground and see and smell them. I think they'll probably go in the area I had saved for the pond, since it doesn't look like I will be able to financially swing it this year. Things are definitely "tight" here. :O(
Have a great day all!
Good morning ladies,
Just stopped by to tell Cindy its snowing again!!!!Darn darn it, told my husband I was moving I didn't sign up to live where there was snow. He ask if I was really to move to Idaho, yea right already been there done that HEHE
LOL, HA! HA! That's what ya get for moving WAY up there!!!!!
Good Morning! I'm feeling better, still congested but my voice is back for the most part.
Lost my internet connection at home so won't be on at night til I get that fixed.
Dave has this crud, he's hilarious, he's all bundled up reclined on the couch last night freezing his rear off, I asked if he had a fever, he said no but every 30 seconds he was moaning or grunting. He finally got up and took some Nyquil, not 30 minutes later all of the covers and clothes were coming off and he said, "It's HOT in here!" No darlin', it's you. He should start feeling better this afternoon.
I'll attempt to catch up on the threads later, I've got to start working. Yikes!
Morning Joyce, glad to hear your Mom is doing better! She will be home soon. Sounds like you need to have your Dad checked out. I have been told those shots can take up to a week and more to kick in, if they do at all.
Sissy, sorry to hear your still having snow. It was 90 here yesterday, and will be about the same today.
Morning Cindy, how was your curves today? Sounds like you got very energized yesterday after your workout!
Hey Crissy, glad to hear your on the mebd finally. That crud is kicking everyones butt this year.
Men are so bad when they get sick!
Kathy I hope you got some good meds from the Dr. yesterday. We miss you! Say hello when you get the chance.
LK
Thanks LK, but they both doctor regularly. They go to the clinic in the retirement home where they live and have a regular Dr., too. That's who gave Dad the cortisone shot. I think it's just his age and with so much on his mind about Mom...
No Curves today, tomarrow but I did work out in the hot with some weights. Later will take Bear for a walk to get mail. Actually I didn't accomplish any house work yesterday Rick took living room putting up all HIS picture and knick knacks that HE will have to dust. In the picture the things on the walls are his, mine is on top of the entertainment center.
I go to Curves M, W, F at 6 am. I really enjoy it. Tomarrow will be last day with trainer then I'm on my own. I need to speed up thouhg, lol.
MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not much going on here.......
Joyce-glad to hear your mom is doing better:) I think part of the problem with your dad is that when people have been together for a long time like your folks and one is hurt and they are separated, they become a little disoriented-I know this sounds weird, but kinda like siamese twins that are separated-they have been reliant on each other for so long, that when apart, they feel incomplete in a way and maybe even a little lost....
Crissy-aren't men funny while sick-they also tend to be bigger babies!!LOL
Guess what I saw peeking up this am?? DAFFS!!! Woo hoo!! Now if the weather will just straighten up!!
Stacey, you are 100% right. That's exactly how they are.
They're cute, too.
I sure hope they both feel great by April 16th when they celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. ^_^
Wow, that is a big milestone to celbrate 70 years together!
Stacey glad to hear you got some daffodile peeking throught.
Cindy, those hyacinths are so pretty. And look at all the plants you have in your living room. Very nice.
I would not like to be Rick, when it comes time to dust!
I have a few knick knacks here, but we get sooo much dust here, I am thinking of putting them away! I can dust on Sunday, and come Tuesday, you can't tell I touched anything!
LK
Morning everyone!!!!!!!
Thanks Donna.
Morning Cody, how you doing today? What are you up to?
LK
Morning ladies !!!
Joyce... it's so good to hear that your mom may get discharged soon... but, it sounds to me like its too soon too... seems like they'd get her on her feet first. About your dad... stress seems to make older people forget things too... I know it did my parents and grandparents. Hope his shot works soon.
I just had to go double check... I have daff blooms this morning... the ordinary little yellow ones... but not the really nice ones that Cindy sent me last fall. There's a bud on one of them, but guess they'll bloom a bit later...
The little blisters from the ant bites are huge blisters today... and feel a lot like a really bad sun burn. But, I feel better otherwise... getting some chipping/shredding done today.
DUST... I have way more than my share of knick knacks... and they all wear their dust well, so I just leave it there. Plus, glass shelves (Don's idea) have a permanent coating of dust on them... till I get a wild hair and remove it.
Morning BJ, don't work too hard today, you deserve a day of rest now and then. I know you are anxious to get the yard ready for spring, but take it easy please. Take care of those ant bites. Try some baking soda paste, it will take the sting out of it.
LK, they really don't sting today... just tender to the touch like a sun burn would feel. I'm not all red and puffy today.
I took most of yesterday off... today, I've got to get at least some of it done.
BJ-did you soak them in the epson salts??
Hey Linda Kay,i'm good. Not much just going to do stuff around here.
Good day sistahs and nieces... having a bit of phone lines problems today :(
Each time I want to post.. line goes off.. thank God I got one special dmail answered :D
Cindy, Kel says at least you got room to put stuffs... we can't even put up all our books!!
BJ, I think this year we'll be planting only zone friendly stuffs. Too much heartbreak trying to push zones..
Joyce, prayers continue for your parents. The cortisone shot will help your dad's moods we hope. You yourself eat a hearty meal everyday, you need your strength....
Donna, is your addy current? I'll buy some from you and will include shipping..
Will be busy, busy today.. but won't be exposed to any ants. Sewing some promised stuffs;)
Cody, how's your day today? Is Mocha up to any mischief?
Hi Trisha.... may your mobility be much better today. Will be cooking catfish and tofu in a hot broth today. Want some? :D
LK, looks like our niece will turn into another quilter;)
Have a wonderful day!!
Crissy, hot liquids to decongest. Thank goodness you all can't get what I think I'm having again :(
ewww-2 of my least fave foods-something from the sea and a sponge:(LOL
Tante-you take it easy now-you hear?? We need you to be well:)
You don't know what you're missing niece :P
