She's About To.........#43
Debra your beagle likes to pose for the camera. Now that I think we have solved the itchy scrathy problem I need a NO BARK solution. She barks at every little noise you would think her throat would be sore. Have a terrier/pom mix and she is so sweet but is developing bad habits from Samantha (Sami). I would never find Molly out in the snow as she is white with some tan patches. One vet wanted me to try a special diet for the itching, price of food was so much. Going with fish oil and the allergy pill.
Got a little rain during the night, brugs loved that. Dreary day, hoping for some sunshine.
Glad you are doing that Pegi, I also (as well as the foster mom) did the "diet" thing with Lexi and bought every expensive food for her, as well as cooking from scratch for the dog. The allergy pill/fish oil solved it all at a very low cost.
I left a message on the place we just came from to you all from AuntB.
She is really busy just now but will be checking in soon. She is fine, just busy. I also mentioned I was considering buying my dog a training bra. Gotta run. (don't I wish I could still run)
Good to see you Karen. Love and Hugs.
Do any of you girls have some Red/purple Castor bean seeds and purple hyacinth bean seeds you can send me?

Hello everyone!!! I'm still around just don't post much. I have enough red/purple Castor beans waaaayy too many....lol ; }
Oh Kim, I would love to have as many as you can spare. Please Dmail me!
Beautiful pictures Debra, can't wait until my yard looks like that. Does the butterfly come with the marigolds? ^_^ I just ordered some seeds from Parks mostly veggies like tomatoes and spagetti squash. Ordered some zinnia candy stripe and seashell cosmos. I think I may be getting way over my head here, LOL. I'm going to have to gather up some of my large pots too. On my weekly trip to thrift store aka knic knac shop I always look for nice pots to use, I have a very large terra cotta one I bought there last year and it is sitting empty, but it won't be this year.
I came back to say..Debra those are some beautiful pics!! You should enter them in a garden pic contest : )
Oh my gosh, looks at all the seeds we will be getting. I can't wait. Looks like you are trying to keep us busy this year. I know my Dad will be thrilled. He loves to go to the garden and help out!
Thanks
LK
Deb will you please send me just some Chinese Hyacinth Beans?
Karen.... you got it...:)
Debra, I would like some tomato seeds, yellow pear and grape. Some years I have a good tomato crop and others....well not so good. Chinese bean hyacinth are so pretty. Yes, I believe you are going to make gardeners out of us no matter what. Exciting!!!
Thank you dear Deb! I had some of both purple and white, and for some reason my white seedlings thrived and all my purples bit the dust. I love you, Karen
This is my first year doing the seeds. Would appreciate any seeds anyone has to spare.
Has anyone tried doing a water feature in their old sink? Went on a water garden tour one time and the most creative person I had ever seen took a bath tub, added a shower feature with a pump and their was the funniest water feature and worked great. Alot of water plants don't need deep water, could just imagine 3 small pumps spitting water out of those faucets.....
Monday morning and I am exhaused. Our bassett hound had a kidney infection and was banned to the garage Saturday night where he cried most of the night, so no sleep then. Sunday we had family over for lunch and the bassett and DH took really long naps while I cleaned up after everyone left. (I just can't take naps). So they didn't come to bed until midnight and woke me up. Tonight everyone is coming to bed the same time as me........
Better get to work, later everyone.
Have a great day....
Beautiful pics Debra.... Wish I had the talent of knowignhow to place thigns in th egroudn that really make s them pop.
:No thank you Deb just the little Hyacinth Beans will be great. Thank you so much
Oh Deb, while I'm thinkiing about it, I was going to tell you and Pegi that I started out giving Lexi Benadryl and it wasn't effective for her daily skin itching....She does however for some funky reason periodically really have a bad allergic reaction complete with swollen lips, eyes, and red welts all over her little belly. I use the Benadryl tablets for those episodes for instant results, and the Clemastine for daily. They are both antihistimine's of course, but just work a little differently. Good luck Pegi, I hope you get little miss piggy's itching under control.
Love the pics of the flowers. I love all those colors. Debra, I will be planting the blue heaven and scarlett mg's you gave me, very soon. I think I will try them together and lace the red and blue together.
Sometimes skin allergies in dogs is a reaction to flea bites. We saw more dogs with this sort of allergy than any other. Of course once the owner treated the dog and enviroment for fleas the condition bettered. Dogs with allergies in their feet from walking outside, sometimes benefit from dipping their feet in a tub of water before coming back inside. Rinsing off the allergen goes a long way for offering relief. The benadryl dose is one mg for every pound. I have 25mg tabs, so my chis would get about a 1/4 of the tab. But you do whatever you have to do for relief. If fish oil is working then stick with it. I keep liguid benadryl on hand in case my little ones should get bit by a copper head. God forbid. Liquid works much faster. It's part of my canine emergency kit.
I think I like working with seeds more than anything else. I'm a little overwhelmed by how much I have to sow and plant come April. I'm dying to do some now but am holding off, knowing we could have more freezes. Just will have to be satisfied with the ones I've sowed indoors so far.
Good advice Jeanne! Of course, the only "real" purpose of the fish oil is to make the coat healthy and shiny with no flaky dandruff on the skin. It does nothing to help with the actual allergy. Me and you both are finding seed starting our new loves. It really is true that "He that sows a seed in sod and waits to see believes in God"
Jeanne, want to race me to DDTex's Plant sale in Jacksonville? LOL, we'll both be there at dawn, shivering and drinking coffee to get the goodies!
On my quest for clemastine today. I have some 10 mg loratadine from the pharmacy in our medical group, it says compare to claritin. I took them when my allergies act up, now take stronger. If I can't find the clemastine I'm going to try these. It will be such a relief for Sami and me once they start working. DH does spray the yard for fleas and last summer we had no problems with them.
My first year at sowing seeds too, Happgarden. I always bought plants, guess I wanted to see instant results, but I had to learn patience with my brug so why not seeds too.
Hello, hello! thx for the new thread Karen. So happy to see your posts and I'm so thankful you are on the road to recovery.. I've gotten some things accomplished on the home front in my absence. Jeanne, you sweetie, your hummingbird room sounds lovely! A cot in the front yard under the big Texas stars would be fine, but a pretty hummingbird room?? I'm looking at my calender for the RU - May is a busy month with birthdays, Mother's Day and the Midwest RU is that month too.. I'm sure going to try to make it all.. I'll start saving my pennies (and quarters) and I love road trips... it would just be the greatest to meet you Texas Ladies', it'll be an HBA festival (we can go to the RU, too;) I can hardly wait! WooHoo! Yeehaw!
Today I'm sweeping out the basement room where I will put seeds, arranging proper counter space, lights etc... I'm almost out of room with enough light upstairs.. Debra, Pegi, Cody, JB- loving everyone's pics... still no green on the Budda Belly. I do have a seed from my Antique Lace cross showing signs of sprouting!!! I have to tell you all, you're an inspiration to me!
Kim, was so happy you popped in.. have you been cooking and baking a lot this winter? I'm going to make Louise's dirty rice and cabbage dish this week.. I hope her plants survived the Florida freezes. I've been cooking for the family a lot. Made a copycat cake for my Sis's b-day Friday- Lemon Chiffon layer cake from Olive Garden.. baked Italian hammered chicken breasts, banana bread and home-made pizza.. So, I'm back on this computer researching specific seed germination info...and couldn't help drop in to post.. Debra, you are so sweet to share your seeds like that! I have a plastic bag of paper plates layered with seeds from you. A lot of them, I'll direct sow and some are already growing in my windows. You are a magician at combo's for always having something in bloom! The hanging caddy you gave me (with the MG in it) when we went to Oklahoma is doing well, I've fashioned a little trellis of bambo for it to climb on and keep it in direct sun. I'm pretty excited about where I'll put it outside. I might add a couple trellis's this year.. I forgot to tell ya, I went on a rock hunting excursion yesterday afternoon... very good one.. my 'buffalo friend' did the muscle work (and Drew when we got back to the house).. I've got a nice start to a future patio and path to the future greenhouse and thicker rocks for another 50-75 ft of border for the hosta's...(border ones are already in place!) I think we will go again this week and take Drew with us.. we scoped out some really big flat ones and I'm pretty much worthless in the strength category.. :( LK, is your Dad how you developed your interest in gardening? Are you making the TX RU's this year? If (not if, WHEN) I make it down there, it wouldn't be a complete trip if I don't get to give you a BIG hug.. I am so excited thinking about meeting you ladies' in person! argh! Drew needs the puter... I'm outta here.. :) Enjoy your day! (dust WILL fly in my seed room in the basement-TODAY)
Bonnie, the Maya that I soaked for 24 hrs but didn't peel, is germinating already, after only seven days. One antique lace that I soaked and peeled is also germinating after seven days. The other antique laces look like there is something coming through, but will wait to claim germination till I see their fuzzy little heads. You are becoming a real recycler, scavenger. Isn't it fun? The free part is the best. Thank God for Drew and your "buffalo friend". Sounds like you will have a dream landscape when all is said and done. I have five mg tepee trellises in the guest room that I can't wait to transplant outside. I have it on very good authority that they transplant with some difficulty because they hate to have their roots disturbed. So I will have to be very careful in the transplanting.
Karen, GET READY...SET...GO!!!!!!!! David, when you see the dust flying you will know it's Karen and me coming for some plants..^_^
Everybody came out of the GH and workshop today. It looks like it will be a good week temp wise. Tonight is supposed to be 48° so I fugure the brugs can handle that if they had 40's in the workshop on some nights. They all got watered and fertilized along with all other plants. Felt good to be outside.
Bonnie I do hope you get to come to the RU. If not May, then maybe the Fall or meet somewhere in between for our own RU.
Stopped at a Wal-Mart on my way home from knic-knac shop and asked about the clemastine (sp.not right) and she said she could order it. Well, I have a Wal-Mart close to me so I will go there and order it. I did give Sami her fish oil and 1/2 of antihistiame I have here, had no problem when I enclosed them in some peanut butter. Haven't seen or heard her scratching yet, will see if it stays that way during the night.
HB working on grow light, think I am going to have a fancy model by the time he gets through. Have to get a space ready in my "office". Computer, TV and now seeds what more to I need in here to make me happy.^_^
