We are going to ask them to switch the cross pieces that divide the vvens with the narrow one above the microwave.
The project designer asked if we wanted it done but I said "ohh its such a bother",that was before I tried to use the Micro.
They wont be surprised when they have to do it.
Garden Photos of '09......#4
Oooh--pretty color. I just recieved a plant sale catalog from the CT Conservation group---they only offered a yellow---the reds & oranges are great!
Shelly, that's an amazing place your landscaper friend has. My, my, my!!!!! If I were to hire landscapers, it would be people who do things like that. It looks immaculate, too.
Nice to see your snowdrops, David. With that crushed gravel on your septic you could build a nice rock garden.
Your kitchen is looking great, Jo Ann. Too bad you have to do some lowering.
Bill, you must be excited about the imminent blooming of the witch hazel.
Karen
yes i am - thanks
JoAnn-looks great.... sorry about the boobs!
Jo Ann, yes I do believe that those are anemone blanda. Cute little things. and your place is looking great!!!
Brook, Sorry... I was just trying to provide blooms!! And yes, your place is just as amazing!! especially when you consider that it's mostly or all you doing all the work. For them, for 1) it serves as a demo garden to potential clients, and for 2) that garden is a full time (and then some) job for both of them when they are not currently working on a clients yard! I don't know hardly anybody who has that sort of time to spend in the yard. Not only that, while they are only early forties, both of their kids have been out of the house for a few years now.
Ohhhhh, sooo exciting Bill! You're gonna be proud of it!!
Karen, if only I had good pictures that were a broad view of the yard, which isn't all that possible since it's a couple of acres and boken into sections (i.e. formal, informal, cutting garden, rock garden). We're not supposed to have another sunny day for quite a while, but the first one that there is, I'm going to be there trying to get all of it.

Fantastic RC.
WOW, fabulous picture, RC!
David_Paul, I think they'll be OK, especially since you're on the coast. They'll probably like it better than the freeze we've been having the last few days.
I just put more cardboard on the grass....mwaaa haa haaa. As for that rock in front, I saw a little piece of granite sticking out of the grass, and I was always afraid I would mow over it and ruin my mower, so I decided to dig the annoying little rock out. Well, it kind of just kept going, and it turns out that my house is built on a considerable amount of ledge. All of the the "little" rocks sticking out of my lawn are actually part of a granite hill. But, I'm actually very happy, I'm going to incorporate it into a new rock garden with a solar fountain that I'll make.
Robindog, aren't those daffs of some sort? Although they look a little red to be those, not sure. Well, you'll have to take another picture and tell us what this turned out to be!
drumlin, I love what you could do with that wonderful ledge. Solar fountain sounds great. Plus your choice of plants will be amazing.
Redchic01, wonderful photo and nice encouragement. Being mostly retired I have taken most of my energy out to the yard, so it is getting to a place that I always dreamed about creating. The problem is that now being on DG, I am so exposed to so much more that my dreams have expanded beyond my abilities and are putting me in the poor house. But it is a rewarding habit especially now that I can share it with my DG pals. My friends in life are mostly non gardeners and keep asking when it will be done. I tell them only when I expire and then someone puts me in the last hole I just dug. Here is my mom at 92 and me planting bulbs in Dec. of 2007. She will be 94 this March. I hope to have her energy to keep going. She doesn't normally garden, but is totally still in 4th gear and zooming along. She will be out paddling her canoe this summer. Patti
Patti - please tell mom she is always welcome here. How is she at chasing the deer? Beautiful shot Shelly!! Very nice drumlin. Things are starting to look up!
What a great relationship you have with your mom.
Victor, She would be good at chasing deer or bear or moose. I'll tell her to stop by on one of her trips east. She is an old keen campy camper and can still use and ax. We get on on some levels very well, But I don't dare do politics or religion with her or it is a knock down drag out fight! She is greatly annoyed about bugs in the house, but not too concerned about wild critters in the yard except when it is raccoons in the attic or garbage. She will chase those. Patti
Gotta love a woman with an axe!
Lovely photo---my Mom doesn't plant--just picks what I have planted! Drumlin---how do you make a solar fountain? Sounds like something I would be interested in.

Robindog, sorry, this is a long link, but anyway, just go to ebay and do a search on "solar fountain". i got mine a couple years ago for about $60, so the price has come down considerably. i'm going to take all the smaller flat rocks that I can find and create a small cascading fountain. I've been thinking and plotting for a couple years, but things always happen to keep me from playing. I tested it in the kitchen sink, with the panel facing south out the window, and it worked greatI
drumlin , I brought lilacs to Kassia last year, glad to see they took!
RC beautiful pictures as always. You sure have kept this thread going through this winter. For that and your gorgeous photo's, I thank you imensely!
Yep, the panel stays out, the pump goes in. There's cord from the pump to the panel, of course. The reviews mention that the fountain goes off when a cloud goes over the sun, but in my opinion it beats having to worry about wiring the thing up and then never being able to move it again. The flow isn't huge, but it's pleasant for a small cascade type fountain, and hopefully it won't scare the birds.
a woman with an axe sounds dangerous if they don't like your politics :)
you come from good stock patti!
I do come from good stock, except my dad died way too young of a heart attack. She may still use and ax, I have a chainsaw, in fact two! She and I do the dance to avoid politics, mostly. I am the black sheep in the family, but they all like my DS and DH, so they tolerate me. Plus I figure when you reach 90 you get a free pass on most things, so I do my best to smooth the waters. yes - 90 deserves a free pass - 90 and active deserves applause!
90, active and an axe deserves a website!
Oh, she has a computer and a cell phone, but no blog, yet!
For those into photography, Woot has a monitor calibrator today for a great price.

sold out.
Oh - bummer. I just checked it before I posted and it was still, available. Sorry.
Pixie, the lilacs seem pretty happy, they've grown quite a bit where they are, so I'm happy. How long does it take before they flower? Do I sound anxious?? Well, do I??
I find 3-5 years depending on how old they were when you got them. lol I think those have been growing for at least 2 - 3 years.... Yes thats about the time I started complaining about them crowding the mock orange.
Nice rock ledge, drumlin! I would love to find something like that here. Alas, not a rock in sight! Sigh! I shouldn't complain. We have great soil here with not much amending to do.
Karen
Karen, that's the trade off...I have rocks, but the soil is absolutley lousy, all contractor fill and sand and clay that's been there for 50 years with virtually no amendments. My gardening neighbor complains bitterly as well. So, make lemonade, I guess!
shelly that was a great pic - i guess the frost hoar's are melting, melting, melting...
drum - you must have a radon vent with all that rock your setting on. i've done the same - see a small piece of granite and decide to dig it out - i ended up with a 6' long x 3' wide and 3' tall boulder - i did get it out of the ground and it makes a nice seat at one end of the horse shoe pits - also doubles as a beer stand when games are in progress :)
Always wondered about hoar frost.
