Garden Photos of '09......#4

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

We have had a couple of hawks hanging around, but none close enough for me to photo well, so I have been especially enjoying your photos, Victor and Patti!

non-scientific survey completed - for free software it is gimp - [HYPERLINK@www.gimp.org]

Seems I have read that before.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I love to study maps!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I love maps too - especially old ones. And treasure ones.^_^

don't forget we now have bird files

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

My son that is in the Coast Guard shares that love. When he lived in Cape May and also Providence, his wife got old maps of the area and framed them. That is such a cool idea, I think.

Allison: Seed Packet Artwork can be found here:

http://davesgarden.com/files/seedpackets/

I borrowed one as a template and just change the picture and info to match the seeds inside!

pford1854 has the editable PDF artwork in the listing (at top).

You've probably all guessed that I, too, have a piqued interest in maps ..... ^_^

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

don't think I have software to edit PDF

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I'd be happy to help you out with the editing, Allison (or, anyone for that matter).

I would just need a photo and the info you wanted to include on the packet.

You might get lucky with a few flowers, as there are many on the Seed Packet Thread to choose from already.

I also modified the template slightly to include an extra tuck in the corners, so that seeds won't fall out at the bottom or the top.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you!!

and Thank You

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

pshaw!

and a million you're welcomes!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Willi thats great. Do you print the template on any special paper?
I'll be collecting Poppies thi s summer.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I use my computer laser printer to print on regular paper and then use a straight-edge and exacto to trim around the edges, then, finally, scissors to round the flap corners.

I don't cut very straight lines with scissors, so I use the metal ruler and an exacto to make sure everything looks good and even.

Again .... my friends all have a term for my "attention to detail" ^_^

Let me know what Poppy Templates you will need (and info) and I can set them up for you, JoAnn!

I simply scotch tape the side and bottom flap, leaving the top flap folded over. Then, I slip the seeds, folded securely in a square of waxed paper, into the envelope.

Edited to note:

I enlarged the template from the Seed Packets Thread, as they were awfully tiny at 2-1/4 inch by 3-inch. I enlarged it to 3-inch by 4-inch so as I could read the info without my microscope!!

Can you make my tax return look nice, Willie? Maybe they'll send me more money.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I send mine in one of those singing Hallmark cards. "You're in the Money".

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I have been a bad boy!

I have just yesterday filed my tax returns for 2004, 2005, and 2006.

I sure could use that 2 grand returned 'bout now!

I also was able to pen my way out of a fine (state and fed) for not filing a business form on time. Though, my excuse was that there was an historic snow event which paralyzed the entire area for two weeks in 2006 without electricity. I had to postpone the start-up of my business until Jan. 2007. That was another Grand saved!!

Maybe I should be doing everyone's tax returns this year!!

(The line forms to the right)

NY is a tough state to run a business in ..... WHY?? (rhetorical query, of course!)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

willie are you really on-line at a prison?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I had an idea yesterday. Since I'll be paying for the mortgages of some of my neighbors (around the country), I have earned the right to garden on 'our' property, right? Space problem solved.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Gardening is a tax right off in both cases. In Victor's case 'communal property improvements'; Willie's case 'community service'.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

heheheheeee ... not in jail ...... Thank Allah! .... or is it Buddha .... or Mohammed?

I was the one in high school that would instigate things. Then be the only one not to get caught! You know the type!

I DID get into (sort of) trouble for my 2003 taxes which I did not file, and just did last month, I got an audit notice from NY State, which is odd as I did the 2003 Fed return. Anyhoo

They want to fine me almost $600 for allegedly $210 owed in state income tax, HOWEVER, I paid into it that year $320, so they OWE me PLUS interest ..... think I can get the interest out of them??

another heheheheheheeeee

I find it reprehensible that NY State is absolutely CLUELESS that I had paid them $320 already for that!

I'd say "talk about disfunctional," but I don't want to start a banned topic! ;-)

I figured I had better get them all sent in before NY State starts handing out IOUs, too.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

if not in prison than i thought you were be an elected democratic official - all cleared up now - this is state taxes

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

No prison for me, and yes, although I am not one who votes party, I am a registered Democrat

(Now, for sure I'll be banned!!!)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Think I'll start a new thread in a minute. This one is getting long.

Tweeding WillyB? I hate tweeding that little scaple and tweezers! I can do a better job on my Face!

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

dahlianut...lol on "community service".

Reminds me of living in the Mojave desert. Customers would come into the store when it was 114 F in the shade, gesture outside towards miles and miles of nothing and say, "Why does anyone live out here?"

"Condition of our probation" we told them.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Gooder DP ^_^

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I love the heat never to hot for me at 114 in the shade I am at my happiest as long as I have a nice hot coffee in my hand I am smilling

South Hamilton, MA

Oh help! Heat & I don't get along. In fact I have to stop weeding when it gets too hot (the 80s).

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not a fan of heat nor cold.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I hate the cold! I like the heat but I get sick if it goes into the 90's, so nothing above that. lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does it get above 90 often there, Celeste?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Every summer ^_^.. not many thank goodness!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

when I lived in toronto it was common in july and august to hit 45C with the humidity I just loved it out in the garden all day maybe that is why I would be so dark by the end of the summer, my body just loves the sun and heat

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

It's the combo of heat and humidity that gets me.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I dont sweat much and drink water all the time so it does not seem to affect me at all love it my husband will go indoors in the heat of the afternoon saying he wants to do is sleep, but I will sit out and enjoy it even do weeding or trim something I will not do heavy work when its that hot but just love being out in it

maybe its because we didnt have air when I was growing up and my body is use to it
