Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice - to see the cave or ice damage?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Both. Funny - after I post 'Mammoth', you post 'huge!'

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

but it kept up with the kongs last year... didn't have the heart to toss it.. even though it didn't flower all that well

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Sorry to barge in ; ) but I've scanned the threads enough to know their is at least one dahlia lover here. Can you suggest a good dahlia for me to get? Something that will look good as a border plant. I would like one with these colors. I also have no idea where would be the best place to get one. Help me please.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Aern't you guys so sweet : ) I just felt like I was barging in on the ongoing talk. I am going to check the link Thanks. : )

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Very pretty begonia!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Meredith - I just asked dahlianut to come to this thread. I'm sure she can help you.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Oh goody thank you sooo much : )

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Any time!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I may be going overboard here but I really want this. Do you think we'll see it local in spring? They are a bit pricey for smallish plants in the catalogs. http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/26798-product.html

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

My dahlia antennae went off so I found you Meredith ^_^ When you say border are you looking for a shorter plant or a standard size (3 1/2 to 6 feet)? This is a luvly one in your colours that got a positive rating from our bigcityal in PF. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/115305/

This is the Big List I use to locate specific dahlias. If you are unfamilar with the supplier I check them out in Watchdog or ask on the dahlia forum.

I will look for some more in your colours tonight. I luv looking for dahlias ^_^

Ordered nine JM's from the special sale! Most will go in pots. Some dwarf ones will go in the ground. I envision large containers with JM's spread around the new patio.

That's not a patio; it's a dance floor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

First dance?

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Well I think the best to describe what one I want is to say I Won't Stake it ; ) (even if I say I will)-don't believe me if I say I will.) So I'm thinking I have to stay away from the giant ones. I want to put it along the fence most likely. I would say 3' or so would be nice. I'll probably plant something lower with light blue flowers around it. : ) I was looking at three in van b - oh god I can't spell it and my toddler hid it on me sometime with in the last few minutes. It was here a second ago! : )

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

If you don't want to stake you might want to stick to border dahlias (up to 2 feet tall) or they will flop. I have both the Berliner Kleene and the Bluesette and they are both stunning but short. http://www.dutchbulbs.com/store/dahlias/borderdahlias/60739

I'm the same way - hate staking anything. My philosophy is if it can't stand on its own, it can't be in my garden.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I like them all!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks I Will be back, I'm running out the door!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah that drives me nuts too, most of the time too heavy even for the stake.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

dahlianut - that was one I was looking at - does it really have two tones? The picture looks like it does a little bit.
I was also looking at
karma sangria http://www.dutchbulbs.com/store/dahlias/karmadahlias/60498
decorative dahlia tricolor http://www.dutchbulbs.com/store/dahlias/decorative/60797
Do you think van bourgondien will send good quality or should I be looking some place else?
Oh I liked this one too - until I realized it will be in the dirt ; ) kidd's climax http://www.dutchbulbs.com/store/dahlias/giantdinner/60064

Meredith79, I don't think finding a complimentary color will be a problem, but when does your lily bloom. My dahlia's bloom later than most of my lilies.

Victor, nice get! I only snagged 7. Patti

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Impulse buying, Patti? I don't think that's in my vocabulary!!!! (Not!!) LOL!!!!

DawnLL, I'm going to try petunias from seed this year, too. I'm just waiting for my seed order from T&M to get here.

Bill, I have an order in with Rosy Dawn for the coleus co-op, and they said they would not charge until shipped. I certainly hope not. I will be very upset if they do, as I don't have a credit card, but a debit card, and I want to be sure I will have enough in the bank to cover it.

Oooohhh!!!! Cousin Nut, I love that Berliner Keene border dahlia! Very prettiful!!!!! Might convert me yet! Karma Sangria and Dahlia Tricolor are very nice, also.

I don't like staking, either, but I do have things that need staking, such as tb irises, peonies, delphiniums, etc. Too pretty not to have in the garden

Actually between wha and victor, I have been doing so much research on Jmaples to keep me busy for years. I have pages and pages of notes and a pile of books. Then out of the the blue a long comes an unexpected Jmaple coop, so how could I not jump in with both feet and my shovel. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - only 7!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I am a rookie, can't play with the big boys, yet!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

The lily bloomed in July which wouldn't be it's normal time because they were from a spring order. I grew them in pots to make sure they were what I ordered before planting them. They were a really good deal - almost too hard to believe! : ) I am not really worried if they bloom at the same time, that is just one of my favorite colorations. I have been drooling over anything I can find in those colors. I guess it's my fad for the year lol. I always decide I Really love something every year. It's amazing how I can always find something new to Love Sooo Much. : ) I also was trying to find a nice daylily or two in those colors. Those are soo overwhelming trying to find one. Hours and hours of boring winter to waste yay. ; )

here's another one I like - maybe this one won't need to be staked ? It says good for border. http://www.kvbwholesale.com/store/dahlias/cactusdahlia/62737
