After viewing Willie's orchid site, I hear a cattleyea calling my name.

This is a photo of the ONE I broke down and bought

They were reasonable priced, too!!! $20 for the one I got!

Who would ever imagine what an orchid REALLY produces! Who knows the answer with out going and looking it up.

The vanilla bean

LOL Victor

That was a great price, Willie! Occasionally, they sell a few in the store at White Flower Farm---try $60 or $70---I usually find the cheaper ones at HD, but no variety---usually just moths & dendrobiums. That yellow-orange color is stunning.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks, and You know it, Robin! The Botanical Gardens have been expanding their orchid growing operation and are now always offering sales on what they have produced as they become available.

Now, that I am not so broke, I am going to be investing more in the BG's orchid offerings!

I offer to keep us all informed of what is going on there, sale-wise, as I bet, even with postage out to any of you, these orchids will be pretty cheap for those who desire to expand their orchid collection in a thrifty way. Of course, when the weather is allowing!

I really had a tough time narrowing it down to one SINGLE purchase at the show.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I wonder if Sherrie is looking for the answer: Honey (dew).

Thomaston, CT

Thanks for the update, Willie---I have a niece in Pittsford---she could actually pick one up for me---I'll be seeing her soon, I hope!

So cute!!! Love 'em!

Thomaston, CT

Love them too---I bought the book & DVD "Fairy Houses" by Tracy Kane for my GDs---they are a little young for them, but maybe next year I'll give them to HayHay. Had to go to Walmarts yesterday--somehow the cart ended up in the plant section---bought 'Akita' dahlias, 'Final Touch" DLs, & a bag of glads---talk about impulsive---haven't started the new garden yet, but bought the plants! Oh, well!

No plants out yet up here, unless they put them in since Sunday. Just seeds.

South Hamilton, MA

It would be difficult to have plants with 9" of snow without a green house so I am safe from grabbing extras--whew!

Do you heat it?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They're doing a co-op for the polymer crystals again.

thank you Victor!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No problem - they're a lifesaver. I still have plenty from last year's co-op.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I still have a half a bag left over from last year, I think I liked the stuff, but it is weird. Today I finally planted a few flats of seeds. Patti

What's weird about the crystals, Patti??

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, I feel like I am playing in Jello when I am mixing up batches of soil of my containers. And I was never than kind of girl! Never had a jello shot! Plus I got a tad over exuberant with a few batches and the stuff started popping up looking like ice cube mulch. I think I finally got the right mixture. Then when I was done, I kept finding little clumps of the stuff stuck between the decking where I had been filling up the pots, and it just gleamed in the sun, but not melting and I couldn't seem to wash it away for a long time. So I know it works. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - we've all made that mistake. Best to wet it first, though I never do. I'm quite at home in jello.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Orange, I'll bet to match your suit!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yum.... jello shots

I overfilled my first year as well Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

not to rain on the jello parade - i do not think it works - i have not had success with the stuff

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Jello shots?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no jello shots can do the job - i stay away from hard stuff though learned from experience.

i've read different reports on if the crystals actually get water to the plants or is that plants get water from the crystals?

anyway i've not seen a difference

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't get that, but I definitely do see the difference and have used them for about 8 or 9 years now. Do a side by side to check. If they work, give me one of your JM's. If not - give me two.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hey that sounds like a great deal!!

remember jm's do not like wet feet

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Neither do Italians - especially ones who owe money!
