aww, that's cool. I grew up with them and would love to have some in the yard.
Awful pics Vol. 6
I have safflower in the Dinnerbell feeder and I have never seen the Titmouse eat it. Always the BOSS or peanuts here and occasionally suet.
I have two Titmousers that come all the time and they will go from feeder to feeder until they find what they want...little nuts looking for nuts!
I have some lovely birds here, cardinals, thrashers, blue jays, yellow rumped warblers, plus various doves. and some other I'm not sure about. But Titmice or mouses - I don't think so. I sat outside in my patio just enjoying watching and listening to them - the mocking bird was sitting in the topmost branch of a dead tree singing his little head off, it would have been paradise if DH had served me with tea - but alas nothing is so perfect in this world!!!!
Ha Rose! Same as yours. Male Red Bellied. I had been waiting for it to take a chunk of suet too!
great minds.....hee...
This looks like it could be a fun thread! I'm sure I'll have lots to post here.
Happy Birthday Rose1656!!!!
This was my big disappointment. I was trying to find the river and I parked at this deserted picnic area near a creek. I was wandering around looking at birds. Then I got back to my car and realized that I'd dropped my keys somewhere. Miraculously I found them. I turned around and was walking back to my car when I heard some weird bird screeches. This hawk took off from a perch that had been less than 20 feet from where I'd dropped my keys. If only I had seen him while he was sitting there!
That's cute!
These Green-winged Teals decided to hang out in evening shade. Darn it! Brightening the exposure just makes them look blurry.
Looks OK to me when brightened in photoshop! (below)
One more -- this bird might be a new one for me b/c I didn't know what it was. Took a bunch of pictures of it, but I still don't know what it is.
Fairly sure it's a winter plumage Spotted Sandpiper. Can you post some of the other pics? Crop the originals down before posting, so the bird comes out max resolution without DG's auto-resizing of larger pics
Resin
Thanks! Yep, Spotted Sandpiper.
Resin
Thanks! That is a new one or at least, I haven't marked it in my book before. I used to be so casual about watching birds!
I think that's the ghost of a Great Grey Shrike!
There's no bird in that picture, you all have been having too many cocktails! ;-)
:))))
What a shot Resin, awesome blur.
How cool! I hope you have lots of bluebird babies.
I have had no luck yet getting a good BB pic so far...and I am seeing more & more of them!! Hope they move in for you!
Glad you got some good shots of that Oriole. He's beautiful.
Love those ducks in the rain. I think that's a perfectly respectable shot.
That heron is not blurry at all!
While I was typing this I heard this screeching outside. Three hawks flying together. I have a feeling the pictures that I tried to take are going to be my lousy shots of the day!
Yep, Red-shouldered Hawks. Noisy things!
Resin
Wish I had them here; their quite beautiful.
Sibley maps them for NJ, so they shouldn't be too far away. Woodlands near water is mentioned as the preferred habitat.
Resin
I knew they were here somewhere. Maybe this year I'll find one in my travels.
Look for that pale translucent crescent just in from the wingtip (visible on Elphaba's last pic), the white bars on the wings and tail, and - even more - listen out for them, they really are noisy, a lot more vocal than other raptors
Resin
Thanks Resin :-)
