Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Come from vol. 5 here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/939568/

Brant Geese. Too far away, and too close to dusk.

Slavonian Grebe. Except it dived. I thought water was supposed to be transparent. It isn't.

Have to take your word on that. Those are the kinds of pictures that I take.

By the way pelle, that chickadee shot on the last one was cool!

A Yucatan parrot flying over our rental house, almost.

Katlian - where were you when you saw these lovely Yucatan birds? They are so cool!

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

This shot of a Red-breasted Nuthatch may be more funny than awful and I call it "Peek-a-boo-tee" :))

Cute!

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

I think this is a Red-tailed Hawk and he did not like my getting so close with the camera.

In the Yucatan silly! A couple of years ago we rented a house on the southern coast of Quintana Roo, about 40 miles from the Belize border. We landed in Cancun so we toured down the coast on our way there and drove back up through the jungle in Campeche and Yucatan. I have some fuzzy pictures of the parrots but they're at home so I'll have to post them later.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, at least you can see the pretty red tail on your hawk.

Not only is this photo terrible, but I realized too late that this pair was looking for a nesting site and I was sitting in front of the nest box that I built especially for them! I don't normally sit there, but it was in the sun and I was cold. Darn it! I knew that I should have built three boxes and put them near the three hanging plants that they are always attracted to for nesting. Darn it!

Sorry, I didn't mean to sounds snarky there. Here's a photo with the birds actually in it. It's all blurry because I was holding the camera up to the binoculars and it was having trouble focusing. DH remarked that they seemed like very clumsy fliers. They were too busy screeching at each other to pay attention to their flying.

Elphaba, I hope your little birds are persistent and come back to the nest box.

I was sooo excited... I spotted a pair of Blue Birds today... during the winter it most common to just see one, usually the male around here. Though you will hear more.

I went home to get the camera... just this one blurry pic of the male is all I got today!

Here's a bad pic showing the feeder with Goldfinch being blown around.

Enjoying your photos everyone.....nothing to add, I don't take any bad pictures (haha). Actually, I usually go through them and delete them as they are taken, adding more room for possible "good" ones. I'll try to remember to leave a few baddies for this thread.

Melbourne, FL

OK, here's one...you'll have to take my word for it that the bird seen here is the Painted Bunting.

Thumbnail by gardenpom
Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

That's not so bad. You can still see the colors. Maybe you could adjust the shadow. Then again, you have so many GREAT Painted Bunting pics!

I took pictures for the backyard bird count b/c it was so dark out, that I couldn't tell what I was seeing. I hoped I'd be able to lighten the pics up enough to tell how many Red-winged Blackbirds, Brown-headed Cowbirds and Grackles there were, but no. This is a lightened photo. I think these were all blackbirds except for maybe one grackle. Still haven't uploaded all my numbers b/c I just don't know.

I keep trying shot like that too Elphaba...trying to show all the birds in my trees. Mine always are awful so they get trashed!!

Don't want to let ya'll down... this weeks bad Cooper's hawk shot from yesterday! Do know that are several to choose from...but this one does offer a different view, so to speak! lol

Now for my Piece de Resistance - thousands of birds the ones that always come when the weather is going to get cold!
I know there are thousands cos I stood and counted them!

Tree Swallows . . . a sign of spring coming in and the temperatures getting warmer! But if there is a cold snap after they arrive, they'll gather together in large flocks over places (e.g. lakes) where more food can be found in early spring.

"No bad pictures" LOL GP. You know, I actually find myself looking to see what really bad ones I can post. Much in the way I look for good ones to post!!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Me too Marna!

Like oh that's a keeper for the "bad pic" thread...LOL!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Right … "Oh, that's not BAD ENOUGH for the thread!" LOL.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Elphaba tried that too, coudn't tell what was there.
I'm counting over a thousand too Seemama.
Nanny my hawk chooses to hide behind lots of branches, he's in there somewhere.

Thumbnail by burn_2007
Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I can see it, but man it IS hiding!!

Kissimmee, FL(Zone 9b)

Are you sure that's your hawk, it looks a lot like mine - is Nebraska NB???
It's lovely to see those birds flying around and I always go outside to watch them, we have an undeveloped area behind my house and a larger plot on the other side of the road, they all swoop down at once and you cannot see a bare branch for a few minutes - then up they go circling and moving a bit further on. Well worth seeing.
Resin: you should come to Central Florida in April/ May when it's nesting season, because in 'Gatorland' the birds all nest inches away fron the walkways, well nobody is going to step down to get at them - it is Gator Land! but a great sight to see, thousands of various egrets and other birds just sitting on their nests, you can see the eggs and the fledglings as they develope and they just don't move. We have season tickets just so that we can keep going at that time of the year.

Kissimmee, FL(Zone 9b)

I think this is one of the pics! yes but not the one I wanted to post!

Iceland Gull.

Through a chain-link fence, too distant, and burnt out into the bargain.

Mrs. Ed Kestrels are hard to get close to.

This might have been a good pic of Moorhens if the tall grass had not been in the way.
