Thanks, guys! Shelly, I wear prescription glasses all the time. Does that count???? Anyhow, I do try to be very careful, but I know accidents can happen. You did D-mail me some nasty pics of a chain saw accident, and I've read about some awful stuff. One especially that stuck out in my mind about a guy who almost severed his throat. He was alone when it happened. He was lucky he was able to flag someone down. Many people were scared when they saw all the blood and didn't stop. I think I read it in Reader's Digest many years ago.

Shelly, I will have to remember that wedge thing, too. I can't imagine trying to cut up a tree that big!!!!!

I have the Caramel Heuchera. Such a nice looking one.

Pretty wandering Jew flower. I think that plant must be related to tradeschantia. Looks very much like it.

Hey, a lot of times I think I believe in Big Foot, but other times I'm not sure. We have had rumors of a Big Foot type creature in our area. Used to scare me when I was a kid, thinking of something like that in the swamps around here.

Well, we did some burning yesterday and got most of the rest of the tree cut up. I wanted to post picks last night, but I couldn't get on-line, so here they are now.

we cut wood with dont laugh a zawzaw he is italian lol it is so much safer and lighter and it does cut pretty good with the right blade

also called I think a recipricating saw

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, we have about a cord of wood, I think, from this one tree. Should be ready for burning next year. That will save us over $200.

Been looking at prices on net deer fencing. I have to put that up this year to save my gardens from being destroyed. I have too much stuff to constantly be spraying. Don't know if anyone can answer this question. I was thinking that instead of putting in gates at certain points I can make zig-zag openings like they have in some horse fences. Anyone know if deer can get through those? I know horses cannot, and I was thinking maybe deer could not either.

What about your driveway?

South Hamilton, MA

They like to walk up a driveway. A friend uses 'deer stop ' tape & puts it across their driveway. They have found that it doesn't work if the tape gets iced.

Thanks Victor, I'll have to watch that show on Discovery channel. Mainly because the area that I live in was pretty much founded by it. I'm definitely not a logger. A sawyer yes, but that's the extent of it. I only fall trees if they are hazard trees, however, anything that falls down across a trail has to be removed by thew crews and I (see pics) It's even more interesting when we have to use a cross cut saw to do it.

Schicken, heli-logging is definitely an interesting sight to see, that and balloon logging. Neither are done often here. Those helicopters are amazing in the amount of weight they can pick up and how to manuever it.

Thanks Robin, I try to appreciate the height. I'm never really sure whether the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.... but, I'm used to it by now! Hopefully lime rickey will brighten up for you.

Jen, pretty flower!

Allison, awesome sweet potatoe vine! I've never seen one flower before. That's cool

Karen, Yep... prescription classes count!! That's actually what my boss wears. He has his regularly prescription put into reinforced frames. Works great for him. And wedges are definitely a great thing to have. They're only a few dollars and they can save you a lot of work in manuevering the saw. great bonfire and pictures, what a pretty sunset. that's still a good size tree! That story sounds nasty.

Bill, at least you know your wife cares! that's a good thing. I call the helmut a "brain bucket" that makes a heck of a lot more sense to me!!

Yikes Scicci! That's a nasty story! however, it happens enough that when we are taking our saw safety classes, most of the stories given in the videos are like that one. The saw kicks back and diagonally up at the sawyer. The videos show the blood, muscle, whole nine yards, I'm sure to scare us into safety gear..... It works!! Fortunately your friend survived. But, a sawsall (zawzaw)?? Ok, that definitely would work!! That would also look funny. Can you take a picture of hubby cutting the firewood with one?!!! that would be great.

so, most of the time my crew is sent out to clear trails, although sometimes rds. this is a rd. that goes to a trail and you can see the need for a sawyer. The trail looked just like the rd.

I wish we could burn the debris

And just when I thought that all the bloomin' downed trees were done and we'd get to the trail, there was this. That was a interesting one

These are just a few of the folks who I help clean everything up once cut. We're finally on the trail (the next day). they're on break and testing out my gear and tools on a tree that had been cut a couple years before(don't worry, they don't get to actually run anything more than a drill. although, the boys would love the opportunity to show me that they too can run the saw. If they even think about actually pulling the starter chord, they know they'll be history )

Nice pictures of "our govt. at work"
Karen SAVE $200.00?
We pay $200.00 per face cord. Since there is 8 face cords in a full cord- - - - You do the math. Nice job on the saw.everyone.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

yeah, yeah.... those silly child labor laws requiring breaks every 4 hours!! They do have enough energy to work the 10 hours straight!! I don't! lol.

lol.... to have their energy again is to be 16 again!! I always tell them that it's a good thing that they know first aid/cpr so that they can make sure I am coming home with them at the end of the day!!
