Afternoon ladies.. glad Stacey made coffee. Can't depend on me, especially when my 'net connection decided to leave us this morning.

Donna V, you don't have to send anyone anything. You didn't sign up for the 2009 swap! But I know you'll be ready for the 2010 swap ;)

Crissy...glad you're feeling back to normal! Chinese food is a test of your stomach! For me it's Mexican food. Guess I'm so used to Chinese spices that they don't bother me.

That's the first time I heard of Laura's fall :( Thanks Marion. Poor niece, hope nothing broken. With you hurting like that, maybe it's a blessing that the kids are relieved off your watch, have faith, things do get better.

Susan, so happy to read you're feeling better. Have a good time with your niece, and I'm sure you treat her much more gentler than your 3 sons!!!! Lol!! Have you heard from Kim yet? Bet she's snoozing off her fatigue!

Think Camellias will grow in zone 7. They are pretty hardy and they love acid. If you plant them under pine trees, they truly flourish. Only complains are that they are very difficult to propogate. Right now, to catch a camellia discussion, one has to find them all over the forums!!

Phyllis, you'll definitely enjoy having camellias in your garden. Unlike roses that are pestered by bugs, you'll have beautiful flowers in the dead of winter and bug free!

Cody, if you're reading this, call me sweetie.

Deborah, you need to show us what you're doing!

Stacey, you're cheery today!

Gonna grab a late breakfast :(

Jaye, I ironed three pieces and just went and crawled in bed. I have no energy. My get-up-and-go got-up-and-went. I have been in bed at least four times today. Kally meowed like she was bored so I did get up and took her outside to roam and play some. We are back in and becuase you want to see what I'm doing, I think I'll just take myself back to the dining room and cutout that pattern. Pictures later when there's some progress.

That's Cody's plea for us to join her in support of a new camellia forum.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh I am up moving but I know I haven't done it in a few days!! Will keep going. Thanks all.

Phyllis what a wonderful surprise to see your post. Been wondering where you were and what you were up to. Like Tink, we have to keep an eye on you!! LOL

I need to search my old pictures to post some of my Pink Perfection--planted to celebrate our first grandchild who her granddaddy thought was a "perfect pink perfection!" Really broke my heart not to move it but oh my how large it was. Got early morning sun and afternoon shade.

I have one now named "Blues Green" that is fantastic. Will check for pictures because I can not describe the colors--let's just say, blue, purple, pinky green tinge. Yes, that about they right description.

Susan enjoy having your niece visit. Mine from Canada has come yet and I am getting really eager for her to tell me when. Of course, she could still be very involved with settling her Dad's estate.

Sending hugs to all!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oooh Marion, camellias are my addiction too, besides brugs. But brugs need more attention!!!!! Have to look up Pink Perfection.. if that's what I left behind in La.

Sistah Deborah if that request has you moving :D GOOOOOD!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I have purchased a camellia for the youngest GD also "Star above Stars" it is a white with soft pink towards the center. It hasn't bloomed as much as the others but won't complain as it does bloom. Looking to find a really dark red on now--actually trying to find out the name. My next door neighbor has it but doesn't know what it is called. No help there!!

Coushatta, LA

Thanks Jaye and Marion for your support. You both are sweeties.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Marion I'd love to own a piece of Star above Stars. See what you started Cody! But I'd really love to own that elusive yellow camellia.

Hello,
I'm here asking all to send prayers to all in Australia, go to see http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090208/ap_on_re_au_an/as_australia_wildfires .There is a prayer thread in the prayer forum.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Hello everyone!

Crissy, next time you go to JC Penney's or anywhere in west LR, CALL ME! I'll meet you for lunch or something. We're only 8 miles west of Chenal Parkway.

Marion, poor lady. I hope you recover soon. You've been working so hard - maybe you body is just saying 'time out'!

I'm sorryk - can't remember who's father-in-law had seizures. Donna, was it you? Prayers going out to all dealing with their own health issues as well as other family members.

Synda, we've been watching the news. DH lived in Melbourne for 5 years when he was a kid. That is a very frightening situation. And very sad.

Got to play outside this morning. It was great! Did some weeding which I don't usually like to do but anything to be OUTSIDE!

Pangburn, AR(Zone 7b)

now I am going to take some pain pills and a nap. Will catch up later.
Cathy

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Cathy, you may want to consider editing your last two posts - for the sake of the group. We've already been warned by admin about improper content (no politics, no sexual content) in these forums and we are trying to adhere to the rules so we don't lose our beloved thread. We love ya, but I think your meds may be talking....

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi, I'm back for a short while.......for those who missed it Laura was down town with a friend on Friday night....we have some really bad sidewalks and pavement in some areas....she tripped a it looks like the left side of her face took the worst of it....she is scraped up and her left eye is all puffy and swollen...a sad looking little pup right now.

Yes definitely prayers for Australia.....I have DG friend and also a family friend in Melbourne. Have been close to wild fires and found it much more terrifying than hurricanes or earthquakes that I have been in......it is a sound that once heard you will never forget!

Took mom out grocery shopping..........pray that I survive until her appointment on Tuesday...LOL.....cannot keep that woman off her feet.

Crissy, had to laugh this one is for Tigga..........

Soft ((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))) for Laura. Please get some rest, and take it easy!
Prayers going out to all in Australia. Those fires can be wicked at times.
Be safe.

Looks like you'll be celebrating 2009 all year round Kim!! Betty is such a thoughtful gem, ain't she? Love that flamingo house.. I bet our Flaming Kim will be jealous!!

Thank you for the link Synda. The world is small. Practically we all know someone in Australia. Can't imagine the number of lives lost just from a fire :(

As you all know, I had been warned before by admin to adhere to DG rules. I don't know about the rest of you ladies, but I sure don't want them to yank this thread off. This thread has been something I look forward to everyday. And I'll never find another with the same like minded ladies.

Cathy, I agree with Debra... perhaps your meds have made your brains post weird stuffs contrary to DG rules. So, do be kind and edit your latest 2 postings. I'd like to keep this chatter going, amicably.

Thanks.
Jaye

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

what does a stietto do and do I have to buy one before I start quilting?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hmmm.. originally stilletto has a sharp end! Normally use for buttonholing, the old fashion way. But nowadays, the quilting stilletto is used to guide pieces under your presser foot.
I don't use it at all, normally I use a crochet hook!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Or my gloved fingers.. or my shortest chopstick!!! There, another use for my chopstick!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Sistah Deborah don't start quilting until you get a package from me.
Gonna mail it out tomorrow!!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Yes Cathy, please edit your last post so we don't get in trouble and lose our thread. Your meds got you loop to loop, gf.

So sorry about Laura my goodness. I know that kind of fall was a shock to her system. I can't imagine falling on my face. Ouch! Let us know how you are doing Laura.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I haven't started yet, I did wash some fabric pieces and got a ton ironed today. Jaye you did get me a moving. Thanks!

LOOP TO LOOP IS NOT THE WORD!!!!!!!!!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

well I can see I am going to have to go find some of these flowers to plant in my yard for sure.

got 2 towels done to send to my mom since I didn't' get them done before they left to go back to Illinois
got some weeding done outside and the weekly log sheets are all totaled done for work.

now in 3 days will be pay day and I can get some shopping done maybe ...hehehehe

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I looked up the roster, and we're missing Joann... Wooohooo.. Joann...
Cody there are more camellia lovers. Most of them are in Midsouth too.

I noticed your name's not on the fat quarter swap Deborah. Perhaps you're unsure of what to look for. So, I gathered some fat quarters I know you could use. AND to get you introduced to great fabrics that maybe you might not have purchased yourself. So, there...
Not enabling.. just promoting the love......

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

aaawww Jaye, what can I say but thank you, my sweetness. I can't decide on a quilt pattern. Neither the pattern instructions nor the book you gave me tells me about the quilting part once all the top is together. How do you sandwich the batting between the backing and make that quilt stitch look?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm still reading, but I think that's a given if you are a quilter. But begginners got to start somewhere.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lolol.. yah, I started the hard way... hand quilting!!!!!!!! God! That's telling my age!!!
When you've assembled the top, batting and backing, make sure you baste them together, using safety pins or special ones for quilting. Then roll it tightly if you want to machine quilt, and do simple straight -in- the- ditch- stitches. For beginners, this will be the best. In other words, you sew very closely along the seam lines! You can do broad diamonds.
Now if you intend to hand quilt.. use a frame or hoop. If you have the patience, this will be good for you. You can do a design, the more stitches per inch the better.

I think for the next quilts, I'll start sending them out to be quilted on a long arm. Tina Tia has a cousin that does that.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Deborah, you are indeed a brave woman for taking up a new journey depending solely on your wits.
I learnt to quilt in a perfect setting. Teachers, right tools, beautiful array of fabrics and on a Bernina machine.
