wha the neighbours were a little concerned for the first couple of years. Now they don't bat an eye when I'm singing and dancing celebrating something exciting in the garden. My DH is mortified though especially when a new neighbour asked "Is your wife all right?" last summer. I thought it was a riot ^_^
Which do you own or use??
John Cleese is on Twitter?
lol... too funny Bill and Dahlia!
dnut that is great!
Funny, dnut! I never cared what people think and I won't be starting.
I just joined Twitter, Anyone can call themselves John Cleese I suppose on there.
I'm not into the Myspace/Facebook thing but I'll try this out.
Name is TommyTimbertoes
Great name, Tom! Watch - before all is said and done I'll be on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace!
Victor, starting to think?
Hate to start now. Been doing fine all these years without thinking!
I would hate not to be on Twitter when Patti's mom joins!
Victor, I will let you know when she beams up. She is more likely to start a blog first. Patti
don't do it
dnut - I'd think that was hilarious also
all sorts of "celebs" are on twitter and you can follow them if their twitter profile is public. that's one of the differences between facebook and twitter - on twitter you can follow anyone (including organizations and magazines), while on facebook you can't (you have to get their approval to be a friend).
so now I get to see if John Cleese, Joss Whedon and John Scalzi say anything interesting or amusing. w00t!
[yes, assuming they are who they say they are]
I understand Abe Vigoda (Fish, from Barney Miller) keeps twittering (is it a very yet?) that he is still alive. He's been old for forty years.
DH refuses to own a cell phone and I keep threatening to get him one. I only use mine rarely, but there are times it is useful.
Poor Abe! He's had to come out and say he is still alive countless times!
Fish is good for you!
;)
I still don't understand why you would use it. What would be something that only tweeters would know? Certainly you can stay in touch with friends and luved ones more easily and privately. I have to be missing something.
Well, it could be cathartic, letting you get something off your chest, ANYTHING you want. A means of expressing yourself. You could engage someone or several people in banter that interests YOU. Gardening maybe? Some OTHER hobby you enjoy?
Clearly it's not for everyone. It's different than Myspace and Facebook (ICK!), I'm trying it out. To see if it's for me.....
Works great when you need a quick answer from anyone. Like" Recommendation for best book on Ilex?" You will get a mess of replies. "Who was the cowboy on the white horse in blah blah" Is that Greek diner still on the corner of 6 Th and 13th in NYC? Or to scream at a current news anchor to talk about something that is bugging you. I have a friend who is a big time twitter user. She throws things out that are mostly political. She finds it as tommy says, cathartic and timely. My needs are not so immediate usually. I can see it used well in emergencies to let others know besides just 911. The best feature is that you say your piece, or ask a question, but don't get to have a conversation. Short and sweet. Plus it is normal to yell. Patti
Hmmm banter. So its like Seinfield. Banter might be good.
Ohhhhhhhh that makes it even more interesting.
'I've fallen and I can't get up!'
Too funny. I was thinking more of a home invasion and wondering do a tweet before or after I brain the bad guy with a candelabra?
during, Dnut, and then dance it!
I was hit by a baseball once. I tweeted.
I am still for primal scream!
Just found this thread---am very nontechie---have a cell for emergencies, just got broadband--Comcast--because my DS insisted--have a hi-def tv--love it--and the car I bought last May came with sat. radio---I never listen to it---I like NPR. No to all the other things---my cousin wants me to get a GPS, but he never follows the directions it gives him anyway! He actually took a dry run to the New London hi-speed ferry depot the day before we actually went to BI--very anal!
my husband doesn't get Twitter also. I'm not sure I do. I can explain Facebook, but not Twitter. So I'm like Tommy - trying it out to see if I like it.
The only thing I can possibly compare it to is blogging - it is like a super short version of blogging. So maybe you Twitter about how you liked the new Dollhouse immediately after you saw. Then later you can do a full long post about it (or not). And an easy way to share a good link you found w/o email. That's what I'm seeing so far.
The best thing I've written on Twitter? Probably to announce the cardinals were here before dusk last night. And that we saw what we thought was an owl, but turned out to be a squirrel. Exciting stuff!!! (probably would be for the bird-watching forum!)
Still - if you're not expecting instant replies, what is different from sending an email to your list of friends?

Time Magazine on FaceBook
I have a cell phone, but don't use it - being down to one vehicle, I don't get out much anymore. I have a blog now - see my Member Page for details! We have a dvr (temporarily) with FIOS. And (duh!) a computer!
So far Twitter is an absolute bore.
Watching paint dry is more exciting....
But at least you can let all your friends know you're watching it dry...
Perhaps you could debate oil vs. latex?
I'm sure that one is, but it has nothing to do with paint.
:O
