What are your non-gardening hobbies?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh my gosh, how can I forget I LOVE shopping...with the kids now it's mostly on-line but sheesh...how do you forget something like that..oh yeah when that hobby pales in comparison to horse back riding....I do have a lot of horse farms down here maybe I'll get the kids interested in it.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jen, those aren't horse farms. Those are palatial horse estates!

Allison even though I am scared to death of horses, as you know they have big TEETH.
I commend you for your courge and determination. Not many women put their lives on the line. I am kinda the same way. Before I go some place other than on this planet, I want to

1. Bungee Jump.
2. Ride a horse.

I am a thrill seeker to some extent. I like to beat the odds but want some controll. Like Cows - they have BIG TEETH - how do you controll a cow? Scared to death of them. Oh my - I can go into this deep. Another Ice Water.... I have had dreams of plunging into the river off the road in a car, getting out and swiming up. I get there and all I can do is try to move the ice and find an air pocket - I find the air pocket but cant get out and wake up. I have had this dream over and over and over again. In the winter I am paranoid to drive by a river in a car. At night you could not get me to drive in a car by the river. Sorry Bruce Springtein - down by the river has to be WARM water.

South Hamilton, MA

DH doesn't like driving over bridges, but I don't think he dreams about it. I wouldn't like driving at all! soI don't.

GDs barrel racing horse does flying lead changes. she seems to be quite talented as she can adjust her stride when approaching a jump & has been jumping not quite 2 yrs. She did not know the proper canter signal so had to learn that. Former owners just kicked until she ran. She also had to learn how to back. Very pleased with her progress because when a horse starts to go over the jump, they can no longer see it because of the eye placement on the head.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

All I know about horses I learned from Mr. Ed.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow thank you Sherrie!... but I could never bungee jump... the horses didn't know they were bigger than we are... if I raised my voice to him the would flinch .... if a horse ever learned they are bigger it a problem... one girl had this horse and funny you mention the teeth... it was a clinic for anyone to come take a lesson with my trainer and have the horses teeth cleaned ... that horse was nuts.. the dentist tried to clean him.. the horse reared up and actually lashed out at the dr. ripped the guys overalls off him... i never saw anything like it.. my trainer offered to discipline him and the owners said no... that horse is going to kill someone ... amazing those people just kept thinking that was ok behavior

Allison - you ride a horse, I drive a dump truck - I have controll. And it dont have TEETH

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

Funny that you mention thrill seeking, Sherrie. I have this desire to try sky-diving once before I die. It must be glorious to have that feeling of flying (or would it be just a feeling of falling, lol?).

However, as I mentioned above, not only am I terrified of heights, but I'm also terrified of flying! So I can't figure out why on earth I'd like to sky-dive, but I'm also pretty sure that even though I'd love to experience it, I will never willingly jump out of a moving, flying plane. I don't even want to get in one to take a trip somewhere.

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

I'd rather go gliding. it seems you could actualy site-see a bit and not have your face up by your hair :)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sherri are you afraid of the dentist too?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL Sherrie.... you can have a tire blow out and be out of control no???

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

other hobbies ? who has time for other hobbies? Well, I like reading . . . and I am a bit of a political junkie - and I might like sports if I can find one that doesn't require me to sweat - or freeze.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

My brother in law had horses before, and one reared and came down on his head and ended up leaving a tooth imbedded in his forehead. He had to go to ED to get the tooth removed. Ouch.

Dentist no not scared - I was a Certified Dental Assistant - CDA.

Cold water sucks. Like 3 years ago I said I would like to take my car and shove that car right threw threw the red light. Dont like bridges over cold water. Now what? 1/2 the bridges arent safe in the US?

I am a thrill seeker at my age. When I was young whoa - lets not go there.

As far as a flat on any typical vehicle on the road, you can have a flat tire. You can keep controll car or truck. It might not drive and steer as well, but you can go for miles and miles. Just because you have a flat you can keep driving. The rubber will peal off and you will go down to the metal wheel - keep going, if thats what you need to do - one way or the other. Replace tire $ and wheel = $

As far a gliding, I would if I had the proper training and a back up parachute. Like a drag car that went 150 MPH but, with Training and CONTROLL. Either win or SLOW DOWN!

Allison shows her stuff with that big tooth horse. Impressive very impressive and she is in CONTROLL.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Did you see the young man whose girlfriend gave him his first jump for a gift. It was a tandem jump and the instructor died on his back!

Victor, Mostly in the car. It has changed the experience of driving for me. They have downloadables at the library too but the selection is small and I don't have an MP3. There are 2 in the house and I should try it. Maybe it could help with weeding.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I used to listen to audio books when I worked as a visiting nurse and drove 100 miles a day. Slowed me down some.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I did see that in the news, Dave. Crazy. Deb - is ED emergency dentist? Or Mr. Ed?

Dave47 - Weed lol. Weed in a heart beat. I would not drive with a mp3. I dont want to have to rip it out when there is an incident of any kind. I am a taker seeker.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Did you ever find a taker?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

My sil went sky diving and said you don't have that feeling you're falling...so in that case I might like it because I HATE that feeling that's why I don't like those big drops on roller coasters.

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

I am into all kinds of stuff.

Ham radio
Freshwater aquaria
Guitar
Computers
Astronomy
Meteorites
Electric R/C airplanes

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I had to read your post a couple of times Dave47 - then I realized you were referring to the fellow who parachuted with his instructor, only to realized the instructor had a heart attack. The young man had the wit to remember about guiding the 'shute through manipulating the ropes, and was able to land safely. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the young man, the instructor could not be revived.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm the same way, Jen, though I still ride roller-coasters. I hate drops when I'm flying. The regular shakes don't bother me but the sudden drops do.

Cool, Tommy! I like astronomy too. Can you elaborate on meteorites??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ugh I hate that when your flying cause you know there's nothing there to catch you but the hand of providence.
We had the worst flight flying into Louisiana from Houston...it was so windy and the plane was being blown back and forth, side to side and up and down we all cheered when we landed...hubby on the other hand was loving every minute of it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Better than landing in the Hudson!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

^_^

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We lost an engine on a flight - was very scary!

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor,
I have a meteorite collection. I purchase them through reputable dealers. Been into them forever but bought my first in 1998. Have nearly 60 now. My web site has a few photos from my collection and my collection list is there too. Real extraterrestrial material!

http://home.roadrunner.com/~kb2sms/

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool, Tommy! Where do you buy them from? Dealers? How big is your biggest one?

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

All I ask when I fly...Please let the pilot be sober and awake!
One of my most memorable times in a plane was in a small aircraft. Just 4 of us, and as we were flying over the Andes, the pilot says, I have only crashed three times. Oh that's uplifting!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I am usually anxious flying, and pray the entire time in the air, please let us take off safely, please let us have a safe flight, please let us land safely...The flight when we lost an engine, I looked around me and thought - look at everyone so relaxed, I should try that - and didn't pray. And we lost an engine.
The pilot was wonderful.
I'd have a heart attack if I heard only crashed 3 times!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Must have been real scary, Deb. I am anxious on flights too.

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

"...is ED emergency dentist? Or Mr. Ed?..."

LOL, Victor, I thought the exact same thing!

My husband has been trying to persuade lately that we need a trip to Charleston. I told him I'd go if we drive. He said no way, and that Charleston was a short flight. I told him it wasn't the length of the flight that mattered, and then mentioned that the flight that landed in the Hudson was going to Charleston. He corrected me and said it was going to Charlotte, but that didn't convince me.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

You don't have emergeny departments where you are?

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

We call them "emergency rooms" or the newer "walk-ins" which are immediate care centers that are not actually in a hospital building. So I guess here, at least, it would be "ER".

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - I never heard that term, Deb. ER is what I'm used to also.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I love roller coasters. I love the falling part the most. I love those rides that drop straight down. I never bungee jumped, but I did one of those 'almost' bungee jumps at Great Adventure. That was soooo fun. I hate flying commercial jets. The only fun part is the take-off and landing. The rest of it is sardine-ville. I once flew in a two person Cessna. That was a lot of fun.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We flew a prop plane from Ft Lauderdale to Gtmo Bay Cuba there were about 8 of us and some cockroach stowaways...that was a scary flight...none of the seats matched, some of windows had duct tape on them

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Everytime I worry about the dangers of flying, I remind myself that it's much more dangerous in a car. Besides, if you get in a car accident, you could be a messed up wreck for the rest of your life, but if you get in a plane crash, you'll probably feel very little pain!

That is scary Jen!
