Oh Sharon I saw pictures on another thread it was terrible!! I'm so glad your OK and have electricity, I was told mid Feb. before some get it back!!
Al's thread, part 3, where the heck are you?
speaking of insurance and house made me think of the hurricane deductible- did everyone get tagged with that? It seems with that they will only replace your house if you lose it.
Hearing those icy limbs snap and come crashing down is definitely NO fun! Devastatingly dangerous stuff. I am sure you will find help everywhere around. Sad to see all the trees.
The MOST important thing is that you are safe .....
We've had 2 ice storms here, and the cracking and crashing sound is erie, especially when you wake up to it, still dark out and you don't know what happened.
Then there is a "no unnecessary travel" - but it was necessary to go out to get pictures, but walking through the woods was not my best idea - after a few branches came down it was time to turn around.
Hope your clean up goes well Sharon.
VERY dangerous to walk about during an ice storm!!
(Something I would do, too!!)
Glad your electricity is back, Sharron--reading by candlelight or fireplace is no fun! We do have a generator now, but if there's a prolonged outage, we won't have the gas to run it. As for talking to myself, I pretend I'm talking to the dogs, but they know it's not true, & look at me in a weird way.
sharron - glad you made it through - though gun shots - i mean limbs breaking are brutal - they kept us up all night here - 9 day w/o electric is no fun. hope the damage is not to bad.
Hi Sharran. Glad you are OK.
So Harper, you crack yourself up, huh? I have a hard time making myself laugh because I alway know the punchline.
(to be honest, my family would disagree. They say I'm my best (only) audience.
Nice to hear from you Sharran. Glad you are okay. I have seen pics, what an awful mess down there. I hope things can get back to a little bit of normal very soon. I hate creaking and cracking up here when there is high winds or an ice storm. It must have been quite scary with all those branches and who knows what falling and you can't even see what it is or what is happening all around you. Hopefully with the warmer weather the cleanup can move into high speed for all of you down there.
Hi Sharon! Glad you're okay. I hope the damage isn't too bad.
Of course you're your own best audience, Dave. Ya gotta keep somebody happy, right? I laugh even if I know the punchline. He he...
So damage from hurricanes is not covered by regular policies, Anita?
Welcome back Sharran!!! Missed you!
I talk to Columbus--not gonna tell you his responses....
only if you have full coverage and it needs to state that you are covered for acts of god lol I usually say its mother nature is upset because someone is not taking care of their garden ahahahahh
Funny! I like that one scicciarella.
Thanks, y'all...
Missed you too.
Insurance guy was a no show today. Why am I not surprised.
Lincoln logs still all over the place, warm today but too windy to be climbing trees or burning brush piles. Gonna build myself a log cabin.
in 1998 in the ottawa and gatineau area they got hit with an ice storm so bad it took down hydro one which is the grid and it was five weeks in some places with no power with tempuratures of -25F it was awfull a few people died in there homes froze to death since they could not get any help no phone and roads closed
its not just hurricane kill and destroy it doesnt matter what on this earth we park and call home it all has its own weather problems
well log cabin with a fireplace and dont forget the candles
Got the candles, enough to last another 2 weeks.
And batteries, just in case.
actually in my area we are just going into the ice storm season usually from february 15 to march 31 those are the 6 weeks that we usually get hit pretty bad
so I will have to stock up this week on bottled water and bring fire wood into the garage always have boxes of storm candles plus a many tea light etc.....and batteries just added them to the list.
my husband laughed when I told him to always have all four propane tanks full before winter well when the power goes out and he is eating a nice steak cooked on the bbq he will then figure it out lol hahah
Glad to hear you're ok Sharon, You're not used to having so much ice and snow in your area are you?
Never before in my lifetime, and I have lived many years.
It was a rude awakening.
Thanks, Flowerjen.
That's prob what made it so much worse your road crews/utility workers don't know how to handle it....when my parents lived in GA it would flurry a little and they would shut the town down.
If we had an ice storm here, the city would cease to operate.
People here flip out at a 4 way stop sign intersection !
it must be dangerous on the roads since nobody has winter tires, so they are all slipping around into each other.
It wasn't the snow or slick roads, we have a road crew for about every 3 people, I think. It was the downed cell towers, and the downed utility poles. Trees uprooted or broken, blocking many roads. We have underground utilities in my area, but I was stuck here for a couple of the first days because poles were down on the outskirts of my block, and I couldn't get out, not only of my driveway, but in any direction around me. The roads were fine after a day or two, but still couldn't move, it looked much like pick up sticks, or lincoln logs thrown in every direction. Matter of fact, it was 60 degrees 3 days after the storm, but still could not get out of my street or my driveway.
An area of northern MA & southern NH got hit with an ice storm & crews came from all over the country to help out. Hope the same thing will happen in your area. Generaters went flying off the shelves for ppeople who could find them. the power poles with the boxes on them were on the ground as well as trees. I hope the downed trees can be used for something useful.
Awful experience I'm sure you never want to repeat, Sharon.
They cover you, but it's basically catastrophic as the deductible is so high. Mine is 5%.
Article in yesterday's paper told how well the Amish fared in the storm--guess we rely too much on power---I know I do!
Mother Nature! only send one ice storm in a lifetime.
my power was out most of last night had temps in the house at 7am of 50F had to light the fire place before the kids got out of bed it came back on a while later I dont even want to think of loosing DG for that long lol hahhaha its my info life line at the moment with seed season on full swing at my house hahah
Well, our garden bird pests which mess up the iris beds were here this morning--no problem this time of yr. There were 18 turkeys in the front yard betwwen the house & the road. They were working under the feeder & picking up grit from the driveway. DH went out to get the paper & they sort of retreated and didn't bother him. They might have as there is a small flock in a Rockport neighborhood east of here which has been attacking the mail carriers when they get out of the truck. They may see their image or there may be toms in the flock. I suppose our gang has had trouble finding food after the last couple of storms but they looked in good shape.
lol got to love those turkey does anyone actually hunt these guys had about 26 or so that I could count in the backyard on saturday then something spooked them and they all took off I tell you that since I only saw one male he must be very happy with all those wives ahahah
What a sight
I love them I think nature is amazing my neighbour think I am nuts to have 14 bird feeders spread out over my property
but I love to sit and watch so it is my favorite pass time year round but from inside in the winter cant stand the cold
We have a smaller group (6). They are fun to watch.
I'll take them any day over deer.
You have more of an affinity with turkeys??
No - they just taste better.
