Al's thread, part 3, where the heck are you?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

WELCOME HOME VICTOR!!! You were missed incredibly so while you were gone. Unfortunately now that you're back I have to type my erroneous thoughts very carefully so as not to be open to wit and puns and spontaneous mayhem ^_^ Heh did you catch that Dave punched a shark in the nose? Way cool!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Well..it's about time!! You are not kidding about some of the lines that were just dying for responses only you could give! All kidding aside, I am glad you are back.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Dnut and Anita!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

"Dagnabbit!" And, here I was warming up and just about to step up to the mic and start inserting my witticisms ....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

very nice pic cant wait for the little hummers to come back they love it at my place last year they were my entertainment from early may to late september

I always thing of what they like when I plant around the deck area and the planters always have flowers that they like lots of hot pink and red

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great hummer shot, Allison. I love them.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

last summer they got so use to seeing me that they kept coming right under my sun shade canapy going very fast around my head, it was just amazing

had my friend and her hubby come to visit and when the hummers started chasing each other around his head he jumped up and ran away

we laughed so hard I told to relax since they are amazing flyers and would never bump into his head and after all if they did at 2 to 3 grams would he even feel it hahhahah

Thomaston, CT

Hummers love lilies---one reason I plant so many. Saw 2 bluebirds today---can't believe they were flying in this gale.

I just saw one pitiful looking robin. Its compass must need calibrating.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

a few years ago I saw a baltimore oriole in february in toronto during an ice storm poor
thing was frozen so I cut up some oranges and also put sugar water in the feeder I used warm water and kept adding more every few hours he stayed all summer I guess he was saying thanks

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Allison - I love your hummer photo! We've only seen one so far this winter. He came to feed on our weeping bottlebrush flowers one morning while we were eating breakfast. We have a regular gang of them in NH, but not so many here.

Mona - I grow lantana here, but haven't started them from seed yet. They really like it dry.

thats ok lots of dry my way rock and sand dry enough hahahhaha
I am on what is called the continental sheild which is rock shelves with some soil and sand here and there so they will do fine lots of sun, now do they bloom all summer or are they like perennials and bloom for only a couple of weeks

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Mona - mine have bloomed here for the last 3 months, so I would think they would bloom all summer for you. They rest for a bit with fewer blooms, then all of a sudden the plant is loaded again.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

that is great thanks a million
I have every combination of color, so now I know what seeds I will start tomorrow
A full flat of them should do can you tell me how big they get tall and wide so I know for when I plant them out

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks guys... I have to try them again... the hummers really liked them

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I just love the colors in the pic of the lantana you posted
I have the yellow/white the red/pink and the orange/yellow
I cant wait to see it all bloom now

mona

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Mona - mine are low growing - no more than a foot high, but about 2 feet in diameter as to width.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Where's nanegoat been???? Nance where are you????

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

They are very colorful. I had them growing in a wall planter last year, but they didn't do as well as in the ground. Mine this year are the yellow/pink combo. Love them!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Good question, Jen! Has anyone seen her posting lately?

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I think that one of the kind I have is just like the pic you posted or that is what it looks like on the package picture

that is a perfect size

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Mona, did you notice that I changed my zone??? I think I'll have to change it whenever we go back and forth... It's only fair! LOL

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)
