Hi guys,
I was hit hard and fast with the flu ! I was helping a friend out last week, which started a couple days being away from the computer, then the flu hit me like someone shoving me off the cliff..I was down hard for 3 days in bed...not much gets me down like that..but whew...nasty..and then today, as fast it put me down, is as fast as I'm recovering...I know that this humid weather is definately helping!

Awsome pictures! I'm drooling...and I managed to take these for Joeswife ...when they were blooming last weekend.

Planter_56, your Medinilla bud has doubled in size, since your last photo.
Maybe we can have some fun guessing when the bloom date will be. It seems to be growing very fast.
Your amyrillis and ferns are looking real good. Your pictures are helping to chase the winter blues away. Thanks

Joeswife, your tropical basement paradise seems to be in tip-top shape for this time of year, mine are getting scraggly and showing stress in the GH. The hibiscus plants have a lot of yellow leaves. I did not see one yellow leaf on yours.
Your rainbow pictures are outstanding.

plac,

Your helios look fantastic. Here they took a big hit from the last 3 COLD snaps. Too bad there won't be any flowers for my DD visit next week.

Is that tapioca?

Hap

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

That Tapioca is really a nice varigated leaf plant isn't it!

Red Oak, TX

joeswife, your first picture gave me a good idea as how to use the chicken gizzard plant this summer. They will root quite easily, by spring I will have enough to make a little border. I noticed in the picture that they have them trimmed back.
I forgot to show my bubble tub.

Happy_1, I am sad to say that my Heliconias have never bloomed for me, but I do enjoy the tropical foliage. I am sure there will be lots of other blooms in your yard for your DD to enjoy, Visiting with DM priceless.

The plant is a variegated Tapioca. I planted a 6" pot that cost $8 last spring, it is now about 7' tall. I have enjoyed it immensely. Everyone should get one.

So sorry, plac. my are ever-blooming. I have two types of lobster claws. They make my heart sing.

Yes, any time with DD is a treasure. Although she lives in Chicago, as in COLD Chicago, we see each other about 4 times a year.

Hap

The variegated tapioca is ridiculously easy to grow from cuttings. If you ever have ONE you will spread the plants around the neighborhood...

Very attractive. It gets lanky but then I cut it back to about 8 inches and it bushes out again. And all the cuttings make new plants in a matter of weeks :-)

I missed everyone here too! Thanks for the Vallentine Rita!

Here's interesting..good thing I like to take photos of the fern tree..

rj,

It's exciting to go back and compare pix...huh?

It is..especially when it's the same day of a year...

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

I'm not THAT perfect. Within a couple of months is OK.

LOL.

But some say I'm perfect. hehehe

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Been looking at pictures of just last year. RJ, May is the best time. Later the better.

Princess Kilikina

This time last year, I was in Maui...........oh what a great place.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I know..I can be talked into a Hawaii visit...I'll be getting that new roof this weekend...argh..I already counseld the roofer where to dump materials, and if any leaves and flowers are dammaged I'll have my yard stick out for hand punishment.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Good luck, sweetness. Been there done that.

I personally wave a $ 20 or 50 bill at anyone doing major work to my house and say this is their bonus if they don't damage anything. It's a great motivator. The guy taking down my very large mango tree two weeks ago earned his bonus that way, only broke one branch on a plumeria plant in the whole process.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL...good one! I'm still traumatized from the rebuilding of the fence...I lost a few things AFTER the hurricane with the work crew, but it was pointless to say anything at the time as I still had a house to sleep in!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

RJ, the comparison pics are awsome.. I post before and after alot on my website.. I call mine the Backyard project.. Last year we had to take down my darling beautiful 56 yr old honey locust.. my yard will never be the same.. I have the before and after and it is ridiculas.. I even posted the saga of it going down piece by piece after hugging it goodby.. and said goodbye to myy 1200.00 dollars as well.. *sigh* that was such a lovely tree.
Rita the chicken gizzards you sent me are rooted and starting to leaf.. love the bubble tub... I started out with three this fall and down to the one now.. this is Big Boy.. he has two leaves up top there.. still don't know its name, but he is 31 years old now.. well almost 32 in May...

I know exactly what you mean..I had such drama taking out an oak tree years ago, I was offering to move the tree spirit to another tree..I mean..I was very bummed, but the need of the many outweight the need of the few!. Even now, I find myself mindlessly plugging trimmings in pots instead of taking them to the mulch bin...!
