Tropical Garden # 30

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes it is the same one, must be 6 or so years old!

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

It must be like an old friend by now. :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Dutchlady, I was refering to robcorreia's picture of the T. Mysorensis that she took in Brazil. I had a light bulb moment when I saw it. An arbor would be perfect for the hot tub slab. I will probably have to find some other vines to plant around it.

Planter56, thanks. I am not familiar with wire worms or bulb flies but I do know about fireblight. I was excited with two stalks on my Lemon Star. But 3 stalks WOW.
Please remember to show her to us, even without a name.

Rj. I also put out rat poison, all 9 of my abyssinian bananas were eaten. It was like losing a old friend. At first I thought that it was the rabbits, I have a lot of them, but DH seems to think it might be rats. I hope that I do not kill the innocent, but I was so mad about my bananas. I wonder if the squirrels are getting the Chalice vine buds. I will enjoy yours for now,( maybe tomarrow)

It sounds like a battle that goes on here with iguanas.

There were always mice around it....and possum. I busted teenager possum on the deck digging last night.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Now how do you know it was a teenager????

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

DH is sitting on the deck with his airgun right now. Squirrel watch out! One was in the top of the dormant banana little while ago digging like crazy. Cannot keep them out of the bird seed. Planted some seeds in the veggie garden this week and they are digging to China for who knows what? A regular rat is far easier to control than squirrels (rat with a bushey tail). They have torn up my swing cover and cushions two years in a row. aaarrrgggghhhh

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Nice photos!! here is my catt just starting to open.

Send DH this way please.

Teenager because he's not a baby, but a mini possum. He's not even a foot long.

Is it windy there...Texas places?

Yes, I have..when I built the front gardens I came accross that in the mulch forum.
too ugly, high maintenance..yada

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

There is a family I know that has a mountain or well looks like one in their back yard ( south forty) and they had it full of everything... only thing.. they made a mistake of grwoing the corn at the top... had to mountain climb to get it.. way over done there.. in the high 60's tday.. itching to go out and play but it is too late now..
Had rats in our banana grove at the back fence when I lived in miami.. the boys had one cornered in the garage and were beating it with sticks.. they were 3-3- and 4 at that time..
I feed my squrrells an assortment in a feeder at the back of my property and they have stayed out of my yard and garden since then, they meet me out there now.. where I used to want to shoot them, now I call to them..
We have an Owl pair and a neighborhood Hawk that hangs out and keeps the mice away .. I used to offer 25.00 cash for any tail brought to me before then.. Had a deer in the front yard last year.. have no clue what he was doing around these parts.. I think he was lost..My problem is mostly some cats. They use my beds for kitty boxes and napping places and hideouts while preying for food.. I put up Kabob sticks pointy side up every two inches in every bed and part of the yard they got into.. they stay out now... one limps and the other has one eye... and I had two jab holes in my feet.. but way worth it. This pic is not a tropical picture.. but it is one of my favs from last year for being a different photo...

Great looking Cat Sunshinesw. I had a Cat. 'Jose Marti' for a number of years before it sucummed to mealybug that I couldn't control. The one year before I divided it up, I had about 12 flower all opening at once. It was a lovely sight. I have to find that picture, I know I have it.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

RJ, nice tropical place you got there.
Joeswife, pretty roses & zinnia.
Planter, thanks! please post yours.
It's warming up outside, I hope we don't get another cold spell. I am getting to be a whimp when it comes to cold, I just don't like having to bring in then bring them back out all those potted plants.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

okay what is a Cat???
I hear your pain on mving pots.. I am not moving one single one out until april 15th I promise!

ohhhhhhh an orchid.. how beautiful! I just gaze at them in the nurserys.. I'm too chicken to try one..

Red Oak, TX

Happy_1, I have to battle the Iguanas too, I have left them quite a few mangrove trees, their favorite to snack on.
Hopefully all the cold weather in Florida will drive them away.

joeswife, I too used to feed the Squirells and thought that they were cute, Then they brought their friends. My main problem is them taking the coconut liners out of the hanging baskets for their nest, and eating my pecans. Like LouC, I bought my GS an air gun.

Rj, I would much rather have opossums than rats, but I have not seen any opossums here for a while.
We have Coyotes that have killed quite a few of my neighbors dogs.

re: iguana. UGH!! They eat all different things in the garden. First choice is Dumbaya and they also like my aralia in the side yard. Go figure.

PS. Being the worst speller, DG did not give correct spelling on the aralia, which I think is correct.

Red Oak, TX

Happy_1, Thanks on the Goldens, they are new. I wish that I had bought more of them, they realy brighten up the garden.

joeswife, could you be refering to the 3rd picture? There is a persian shield in the back with a few blooms on it, I would say that that is the only plant that looks bad when in bloom.
We are expecting another great day in Dallas, the wind has subsided, and we might get a few sprinkles. I am planning on planting potatoes today.

phughes, where did you find those pink pots? They are cute. You can't have too many party times, they are good in hanging baskets too.
Dde-Tex gave me my first start of them.
So far the Copper leaf plants still have all of their leaves, while the caricature plant lost all of hers already.
