Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #83

Victoria Harbour, ON

Think mom with having the stroke really wanted to settle a few things...one was who gets what...she also knows my love of quilts, Sharon my sister makes award winning quilts so she won't want them, my SIL Kim has several and niece has several so these will come home with me..
Mom made all of these..a few more are in the works..

So like Shar, I'll start to collect some as well..I so envy her hers...

Talk about hours of cross-stitching and quilting

My favorite, think the one she gave me that I either need to quilt or have quilted is same...

Now if I can talk my sister Sharon and Aunt Muriel into giving me a keepsake from their stash I'll have a good start..lol

Have I bored you all to death? Sorry, just proud of the work mom does..at a trip to Sharon's and Aunt Muriel's one day I'll take photo's of their quilts...

Best go empty the car...be back to gab, this time more about you all than I...

Betty-did you see my post to you about UPS

So glad you had a good time Betty. Deb looks like a sweet person just like you and your mom. Woke up to no lights in the hallway and in the washroom and bathroom. The freezer and the washer works but we are trying to find the cause. Thank God they are working. I can get along with flashlight or candles for a while. Worked in the yard yesterday and broke a sweat. It was 65 here. Back to the rollercoaster weather. 40 some today. Hi all and HUGS BEV

Betty so glad you had a good time. I love all of your mom's dolls! Does she still make them? The quilts are nice too, my grandmother used to quilt, always had a good time quilting with her and her church lady friends. I don't have very many though, think Mom has a lot of them.

Well the sun is out, supposed to be 70 here today again, did all of the yard work yesterday so don't know what I'm going to do today, wish I had someone around here to visit.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev, hope you find out the problem..thanks goodness though your freezer is working..be sad to lose what is inside...could it be a faulty breaker??? OMG that's lovely weather you are having, and to be working outside, lucky/lucky you...now that's a pretty photo...

Stacey, did read your post..thank you 'sweetie'..omg that's a lot of trouble, should have just posted regular mail, might have gotten here in a bit more time but a lot easier..never thought of providing my telephone number..look forward to getting it...did you get mine, my sweet valentine,if not, then it should be within the next few days..after seeing all the beautiful things on the 7 Mystery Swap, I'm not so sure my swap bud will like hers..with being sick those weeks, it took all my time to do it..oh well what can one do? Too late to worry now...

Crissy glad you are feeling better, and look at all those treats you got yesterday..what was he up to lol to spoil you so? Isn't that the question we women always ask? just kidding, sure you deserve being spoilt..

Shar, do you have lots of cleaning to do in your yard..have the photo album ready to go out as well, don't know if you read past posts but I was saying not sure why a person would make something for an art teacher...dah???? it's not realism and it's not folk art and now I'm debating sending it??? imagine that.....

Well, cleaning the house today, wanted to work on curtains cut house comes first..animals are shedding so means a good vacuum and dusting..haven't even been out to the car as yet to get all my treasures...

Mary how are you today? That must have been traumatic for you and the family..prayers and soft hugs coming your way...thyme..will you be planting the creeping thyme? or is it creeping flox? hmmm will be interested to see photo's of your garden..

Anjl..do you have some of the patio area you worked on last week..

Liz you had me laughing at our trip to Cracker Barrel, for a girl who wasn't sure she wanted to go, you sure spent your dollars...

Judy, you must be recouperating from the Bahama party, was it Saturday or am I mistaken and it's this coming Saturday..must take time to go read posts I've missed

Marion, have you been to the doctors? hasn't this crud illness been with you for sometime? Now what kind of weather are you having, everyone says I've not missed going to Florida because it's been cold/cold...what is it doing today..

Jeff and I were talking last night, wanted to know if I still was planning to take the boys to Florida on March Break..now that's only a month away..best I get figuring the bankbook balance and see if I can...problem is I hate only taking 2..and not sure my car is comfy enough to take all 4 as they are no longer little tykes..starting to be young men...so lots to think about these next few days..

Betty,
Whatever you make is a treasure to me. Always.

And yes, I have a ton of junk in my yard, but I am going to make some teepee like structures out of some of the branches so they will serve as a trellis, and then I will use some of the bigger ones for outlining more flower beds ....the rest someone can use as firewood. (as if I needed more flower beds.)

I am glad you had a good trip to NY. Happy pictures.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-I had a coupon and really wanted you to have it by Vday:) I hope you like the things-not much, but I thought they were cute-I tried to fix one with some beads-not sure how much I liked it after I put the beads on-I guess I will see if you like it...I haven't gotten anything yet-I am checking my mail every day though:) And don't worry-I am sure your buddy for the mystery 7 will love what you did-remember I felt the same way about what I made and Juanita loved them!!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

since my name is Betty, too, some of these postings can get mighty confusing. Well, I am going out to fertilize my daffoldils since they broke ground.
What did I learn? I an only going to buy the latest blooming daffys from now on as they come up here and then a freeze zaps them.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Why don't you call yourself Betty II! Betty 1, I love the dolls! I've always wanted to collect dolls! I've made and dressed dolls, but never kept one for me! Those are beautiful!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

because I am a wood spirit. That's the ghost of old moonshiner that slips through the woods, being wary of a revenuer near his still. They are depicted in carvings a lot with a long beard and funny hat. Elements of mysticism have been added to them now. Here is a picture of wood spirit, plain and simple.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL! That's beautiful! My daddy was a moonshiner before he married my mother! He had some scrapes, too!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Here is more mystical one but it was easy to follow what the wood allowed. I love the way he's holding onto his hat.
My husband carved this one and is beginning to sell them on eBay

OMG spirit, you just have to post the link...they are absolutely unique...are you like the shoemaker whose wife has no shoes, do you have some of his works of art in your garden...I particularly love the old man spirit..wow, now what kind of wood is he using?

This must be the moonshiner thread..lol..my DH Roger made moonshine, learnt it from his dad, not that he needed to, was just an old type tradition..I have 3 stories to tell, will wait until tomorrow when I'm trying to fill my day...

Audrey, did you find your material and are you sewing up a storm? Don't get me wrong, I've made some so know just how much effort there is into making and clothing them, but h..l, what will I do with them..if I had grandaughters, I could pass 2 or 3 along to them, but no girls just boys..

I'm sure Stacey I'll get it before Vday and you'll have yours..because Valentines Day is on Saturday I might just do something special for me/me/me as I don't have a 'sweetie' to do it..do miss that part of it though..

Shar, only you could find something positive out of the storm..I'm sure your garden art will be beautiful and serve it's purpose..now you know you need another bed...with all those rose bushes you planted last year, they weren't damaged were they? As for the album, drats, what was I thinking? lol but giving it a few coats of finish today and then mail it out..will take photo shortly...still have hinges to screw together..leaving that for after I varnish the pieces...

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

the completed patio ^_^

well, still need some plants in those new beds! researching for a flowering shrub to go on the left in the front corner....but this area gets lots of shade....any ideas?

will post more photos later...DH is pacing the floor waiting on me, gotta go grocery shopping. Ugh!

Oh AnnMarie, it will look just like a little french courtyard..lucky you...now to find some cement slabs to re-cycle..you've given me an idea, not that I needed another but it's just sooo pretty..great job..once plants grow between it will be stunning, you must be more than pleased with the outcome..how are you feeling today? Have you seen DS this weekend, praying he's feeling better as well...just love it!!!!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Thanks Betty, think I will do some twig wreaths too. After the big ones are used up and twigs are left.

AnnMarie.....hypertufa pots would look stunning in that great patio. There is a forum on DG, I think, for making them. Easy and fun.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Anjl, If you are talking about where the shovel is, you could put a Fire Bush there and keep it trimmed back. That red would light up that space. BEV

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

With yellow hostas under or would that be too bright. Would be eye catching for sure. BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

We'll have the garden all planted and designed before she gets back to town...lol

Room is getting a bit long for those who have to 'dial up'...

Moved us over and a few of the last photo's ... a must see for those who join in on the next thread...

Shar, hope you take photo's of what you can accomplish..now wouldn't a giant size wreath look lovely on your house or on a shed????? know it would..

Come join in the fun...

Edited to include the link....

hi all

well we have had some great tradedies in our contry today. so far 108 lives lost including one of our newsreaders. many whole families are gone and towns wiped out. many of the fires were deliberatly lit!
i waiat news of my brother as he stands to defend his home. i am not near the fires so dont worry about me. the temps were 48c and the winds so strong that in minutes lives and property were lost., there was no time to get people out it seems.
so much is gone and all the wildlife with it. very sad indeed.
pray for our country, our fire fighters who lost families while they themselves tried to save others. those who are so badly burned and those who have lost everything.a
we as a country are in mourning today.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I am so sorry, Laura.
I have been following, and looked to see if I could figure out how far it was from you. I am so glad you posted, and so saddened by your country's losses.
Such a tragedy.
Love to you.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

I am very sorry Laura.
How heartbreaking.

Hugs ((((( )))))

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sounds like everyone is keeping busy. Oh Betty, mom's dolls and quilts are so beautiful.....no one would have room for all of them!! You just might have to enlist a large
number of DG friends to each become caretakers of one or two each, just to help out....?

Had my out to get cardmaking magazines to keep her occupied, and get her grocery shopping done.....so glad her Orthapedics Appt. is Tuesday.....hope the schedule surgery soon....maybe Tuesday Night!!! She is not dealing well with not being able to be up and Doing constantly.......We are going out to find her a better Walker tomorrow, maybe that will help if she has one with the brakes and seat...all the bells and whistles.

At this point she has worn me out....think I am going to take a short rest.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Laura we have been concerned for you. Our prayers go out all in your country effected by the fires.....we have many fires in areas of our country during the summer also. When we lived in California there was a big fire near our home.....I have never seen, nor heard such a terrifying thing as that.......(((((((((HUGS and PRAYERS))))))) to all, we are so glad that you are in a safe area..

Trisha
