.... and I'ma lookin'!!
Coffee break 3 "Oh Mr. Groundhog....we need to talk!"
saw one at costco - sony bravia $1700 - $1000 less than the 46" purchased 18 months ago
this would be for my wife (true) she watches a lot of TV after being on her feet at the hospital all day. maybe in a few years - although she did not jump and say NO when i mentioned it.
went with LCD - plasma are a bit cheaper
Bill, our old TV is failing fast. I think this is the month to buy one, if ever, if at all. But do we have to spend $1700? Maybe we'll just do without.
My DH just got a widescreen TV. I don't like it. It feels like my eyeballs are being stretched sideways.
d-nut it is the ONLY way to watch a hockey game.
carrie - it may be THIS year is the time to buy one if the economy stays the way it is. we can live without tv - although my wife would beg to differ - project runway - cooking reality shows - celibrity rehab - they drive me to the PC or a book.
I haven't watched anything except Jeopardy or House in a long time, but we do watch DVDs. He says this month because they are overstocked and didn't sell enough. Plus there's that new HD whatever.
I'm looking too! Hee hee. (Do as I say, not as I do.) They came down so much. I can only fit a 40 inch in the entertainment center. Sony has a real nice one. 'Down' to around $1200. Maybe...
Hey Bill - what if the choice is a 50" tv vs. a 50" JM??
That's easy, Victor: the JM won't stretch your eyeballs sideways!
Victor i would say.............both - a 50" jm would be like buying the cables for the TV
Acer palmatum 'Sonysan'??
and that entertainment center can be altered. we had a corner cabinet to hold the old 36" trinitron with doors. thing was about 5 ft tall - originally bought at the mill store - I took the top off - took off the doors and grabbed the circular saw and carefully cut off the old tv section - placed the oak top on what was left at the base for the TV to sit on - and puff - 46" TV sits on top and the cabinet below holds DVD and cable box - it looks perfect.
still waiting for the corner cabinet that can hold the TV inside - furniture manufacturers have not caught up to that yet.
and about the dvd - hd tv now needs blue ray player - still waiting for those $$ to fall further.
yes i do have a sony - very good
vizio in the bed room - although will not pay another $10 to the cable thieves for it there.
Don't think that could work for me. Mine is much taller. Yes, Blu-ray players are still high.
towels need to match???
;)
I think I'm getting old. I've always been interested in new technology and capabilities, but I just don't get all this stuff these days. How many ways does one need to 'stay in touch' with friends, family, co-workers, or whomever? Email, cell phone, texting, blogs, podcasts, myspace, facebook and the latest rage, twitter. Dave just created a DG Twitter page today. I went to the Twitter homepage and they described as the best way to stay in touch BETWEEN BLOG POSTS! Does anyone do anything real anymore?? (Like rant on DG? Hee hee.^_^)
DDIL got us a SKYPE as well as her husband( our son) for Christmas. This way we can see them when we communicate, but neither of us have set it up yet. LOL. However, I would like to see the grandkids when I talk to them, expecially the 7 yr old who is quite the communicator. LOL
He probably has a Twitter account already!

What kind of account??!!??
Oops - thanks Willie!
I liked the other one better
I already signed up.
skype is a good deal and free - i used it for a couple years doing biz in asia - better than the phone.
I sent a 'tweet' but I don't understand it. Can everyone in the whole wild world and other planets now see what's happening on DG?
I'm going to start an anti-Tweeter website for people who don't want to communicate. Gonna call it Sylvester.com.
I will pay the annual dues. I have a real aversion to cellphones too.
Thanks, Bill, that is an encouragement. DH thought we had to pay something.
Thank you Dnut: my cell phone is not attached to my hip & this really irks many folks I know. I am ancient: grew up with "dial" phones (gasp!), and no way to leave a message unless someone answered the phone.
I don't watch TV at all - too hyper to sit still. But I really appreciate mp3 players - couldn't fit all my lp's in my pocket. Perhaps i should have chatted up the guy who stashed the birds in his pantyhose - he was sorta clever. ewwww......
My dad, who, at 81, still takes the subway three days a week to go work out at he YMCA in Manhattan, always jokes about that. When the subway gets to Queens it comes out of the tunnel and becomes elevated. Instantly all the cell phones come out. He wants to take out a rotary phone and make believe he's dialing!
he would get everyones attention that is for sure and some would even ask him how it works lol
I liked the sound that the rotary dial made.
It did take a bit of time if you were dialing a phone # with lots of 8's, 9's, or zeros.
i still have one on my desk it is so if the power goes out in the house the phone still works since cordless need electrocity to work so I thought it would be funny to have my moms of rotary, it works great and its from the sixties and it was free
We still have a wall phone from the 60's, but it's a push button. That phone was made with lots of metal - you could knock someone into tomorrow if you hit them with it.
Not that I was thinking about doing that. Well, maybe.
hahahahha death by phone hahhaha
my mom still has a rotary RED bat phone in our basement and still in use with the 4 prong adapter .. and a black one in our storage room... man those things can really bust a nail off
I just hung my head when my niece (quite a few years back) had to ask how to use it
Cool!
ok all have to get up in the morning so beddy by time for me good night all
