Coffee break 3 "Oh Mr. Groundhog....we need to talk!"

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

ahem but they are still trying to roust Balzac Billy out of his hole with a stick as far as know. I ask you. Poor thing probably has an ulcer from all the stress. All the more reason it should be 'Gopher Day'.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Early spring! Yes!!!!! I luv it when a plan comes together ^_^

The delphinium are growing inside - right?

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

oh yes in flats over three feet of snow outside

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

- that's what I thought - I guess I should start some of my delphinium inside as well. I have some that I winter sowed outside, but I have saved the New Zealand Hybrids for indoors.

Yippee! Something to do tomorrow evening!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

hybrid will grow well that is what I seeded actually put in four packages of different hybrids in a regular size flat just filled it with soil no peat pack or pots and they are just coming up will have to move them to pots in a couple of weeks and will reuse the flat for something else

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Okay - so I start the seeds - then when the seedlings are bigger, I repot them - correct?

I only have 8 of these seeds so I really don't want to waste them.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

if you only have eight start them like two in each pot using 4 inch pots wet the soil first squeaze out the access water put the seed on the top pat them I did not cover them and put them in plastic bags to keep in moister and give them some light but not south window east or west they like to be cool and be patient took three weeks for mine to start to come up at the end of four weeks if nothing is up put them in the garage where it is colder for two weeks and bring them in again I cooled my seed in the garage for two weeks before planting them

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I'm having a german-chocolate-bar-and-coffee break right now, and thought this is the appropriate thread for a quote from my familiar Gardener's Bed Book by Richardson Wright:

"In all the world's vast library there is no better reading for a countryman than the catalogue of a mail-order house."

He wrote that in the 20's or early 30's - if he could only see what a selection we have today!

My seeds have been in the fridge since I bought them - so no concerns there. I will follow your advice precisely :-) Our Old House is generally kept at about 60 degrees, so I don't have to worry about the delphiniums getting too warm ^_^

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

thats good mine is at 68F and the vent is closed in the room where I put them they do like it cool

Thomaston, CT

I haven't started any seeds yet---maybe in a week or two---I'm buying more that I can direct sow--getting lazy!

I can/cant start yet. Good grief they would be 2' tall. Did it once on March 10th, never will do it again.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

the seeds im starting need at least three months inside before they can even be outside and then another two months outside before they can be planted and some will not be planted till the fall so in other words I m only starting perennials that are slow growers

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I posted my big list of perennials on the old thread. I'm prepping a few more that have to be washed for a week or two and then there will be a hiatis.... and then..... TOMATO babies ^_^. I would kill for a fresh tomato at this point in my life. I ate my last home grown late November sigh.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

You wait me to send you A Tomato????? I will just run down to south Florida and run right you there to you!!!! LOL

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

My dear Wren if you are telling me you are ACTUALLY having ACTUALLY fresh tomatos that ACTUALLY didn't come from some mass hothouse greenhouse growop then I ACTUALLY will swoon!!!!!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

the closest I have come is very nice tomatillos for salsa. But not the same...
Wren, if you are into cross country delivery...and we have no snow, either!

Thomaston, CT

I'm getting mighty sick of lettuce & cuke salads--I do buy radishes for color---but it's hardly the same as a nice, ripe juicy tomato!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

They do or did grow tomatoes down in south Florida. I am afraid that WA is a little bit to far!!!! LOL

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

I know - opposite side of the country. But one can always wish...

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

lol!
Exactly how does one conceal a bird on each leg?
Code name: Lumpy.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

He put them under tights. Maybe a little chloroform? I get searched EVERY time we fly, and every time something like this hits the news, the TSA agents find another level to their "random" searches.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Yes, I saw that part, but still, it would be lumpy, and protruding...
victor - don't!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

The last few times I've flown I've been the one picked to take my sneaks off. It is annoying but it's really much more annoying, most, or all would say catastrophic, when the jet hits a building. So I'll take my shoes off and smile while I'm doing it.

Do you think the agent said "Is that a bird in your pants or are you just happy to see me?"

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Ooops, Katye, I think I did it.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Everyone takes their shoes off here

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee. Yes you did, Weeze! At the airports around here, you always have to remove your shoes too. Doesn't bother me at all.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

LOL, Venu! & Victor did say there were 3.....

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Everyone takes their shoes off or gets tested for GSR. I'm not complaining about safety measures that actually keep us safer! I fly through a lot of different airports, and I can't go through the metal detector so I ALWAYS get searched. Sometimes it's efficient and friendly. Sometimes it's ineffective and amateurish. When they figure out how to be professional and efficient about searching under everybody's tights and long underwear, I'll be fine!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

honest question: besides this guy with the birds, etc., who puts things in their tights or thermals?
I can understand vigilance for safety, but, I'm not sure I'd want to ask a traveller to empty their tights.....whoa!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Could be worse. You can be asked to empty your tights when you're not wearing any.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

our airport makes everyone strip naked. It has added a whole new dimension to flying.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I bet it has. No Connecticut for me ;)
