Thanks dovey. I made one for my mom for Mother's Day last year. I made the bottom plate bigger on hers so the cardinals wouldn't have to stand sideways on it! I also managed to make the feeder a little lighter.
Show Us Your Birdfeeders Vol. 11
How long have you been taking a ceramics class?
I would love to do that, but so far the classes around here run quite a lot for a 8 week course.
I love your leaf design
Dove
dovey.........sure thing, can't guarantee that it will be up to code.
Oh no - Not the Code guys!
They always ruin everything
Two story... nice.
All with left over wood, I know my husband can do that, I'll have to show him some pictures
That's very nice swissy!
Swissy, great birdhouse. Very neat hanger, and the hook for cleaning is a good idea. I would buy more than one of those if I could find any as well built as that one, in my area.

The Bird feeder was my "hubby's" idea, after the Squirrels or a Bear damaged our plastic feeder so badly (we found it one day on the ground) he was taking the "green" things out of the old feeder, cut round holes in the Wooden Feeder and pushed them in the holes. He was a bit inspired by the European Chalet look. The wood on the roof he covered with leftover Asphalt shingles. I just need to give a new paint job.
That's a feeder or a house?
After my earlier post asking how to feed the small birds without the blue jays scaring them away and eating all the seed we came up with this solution. A quick visit to walmart to buy a cube storage set and a $10.00 feeder, a little plexiglass for the roof, and we have a blue jay proof feeder. The chickadee and sparrows seem to like it but the starlings, blue jays etc can't get in. We hope the finches will use it when they return. The base has window screen in it to keep the spilled seed from falling through the cube mesh.
The commercial feeders with wire cages seemed to cost $90.00 or so while this cost about $35.00 Canadian and we still have cube sides left over to build another two feeders.

That's nice eastjack!
What a good idea! Thanks for sharing it.
oh, i gotcha! neat.
I really need to get crafty/handy here!!
eastjack, great feeder. sure wish I had your or at least some Chickadees. They are my favorite bird. And I did have a pair for several years, then a Sharpshinned hawk either killed them both or at least scared away. And haven't seen any since.

Our local garden center had an info fair last Saturday and I purchased this feeder. I resisted for a few minutes but decided that since they only had one someone else would own it if I didn't purchase it. I couldn't allow that to happen. It has a feeding station on each side and fills from the back. I'm now searching for a location.
Rocco, how beautiful....is it carved in wood ??
I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much....
Rocco,
I love greenman, that's a great looking feeder
The face isn't carved from wood but appears to be cast from resin. It is very well constructed, all the joints are perfectly matched. The height is about 18" Whoever made this feeder paid a lot of attention to detail. The best part is that it cost only $14.00. The person that sold it told me that it was weather resistant but I plan to install it in a protected area, maybe under an eave.
That's a beautiful feeder!
Rocco, I too would have saved someone else from having buy it. Really neat feeder/birdhouse.

dellrose, you may not think it a good picture, but sure is interesting. No mocking birds here. That is a really good picture of the goldfinches at the thistle feeder. I have one of the upside-down ones as that is the only way I can feed goldfinches, otherwise the darn House Sparrows eat all that expensive nyjer seed.
I am really hoping to see some sign of spring soon. Got 3 inches of new snow yesterday, haven't gotten all 200 feet of my pathways shoveled clear of snow yet. It is 6 degrees outside and too cold to go out and shovel snow.
Donna
I need to find me a pine cone! They had a cute little PB feeder at WBU, but they wanted $11.99 for it and I just didn't think it was worth that much.
Ruth...I feel for you with the cold weather. It was 67 degrees yesterday and supposed to get down to 20 tonight and snow tomorrow. Darn weather anyway! I don't have too many House Sparrows come to the yard as they are mostly in the fields around the brush piles where I feed corn and sunflower seeds. I hope your weather clears up...I am such a wimp anything below freezing sends me into a tizzy!
Nanny...I don't have any pine trees around here and I found mine at a park in town. I got a few more the other day and am going to hang one in the feeding cage for the Bluebirds.
Mrs. Ed...I love that thistle feeder more than the Finches do...it is so easy to clean and fill and there isn't so much waste on the ground. Nice shot of yours...it does look like my house!!
Rose, I love the feeder too, but you have to be careful. I was trying to clean the tray of some frozen seed/hulls and the bottom popped off. For those of you who don't have this, that's how you fill it, the bottom tray twists to come off.
Now the thing is, I bought this for the redpolls. They are MIA since January. haha.
My little Redpoll has been MIA also...boo hoo!
Mine took off with the pine skiskins I think!!
Heehee,That's so cute! I'd love to get one but the DH has me on feeder restriction!
Aww, pelletory, try this: "But sweetie, it's only 12 dollars. *bats eyelashes*"
Ha ha they are all the same! What another feeder dont you have enough? Tee hee............
When I put up a new feeder and he says where did that come from I say oh it has been in the shed for some time!!!!!
yah GM, that's a good one. I remember you saying that last year. I'll have to try that!
LOL, I say that too GM but he's smart and is on to me! I think he's been taking inventory:-)
Marna, He knows the price of some of them. Then he counts the others and says "Even if they were only $--? dollars that still comes to $---.
Smarty Pants!
