That native witch hazel might be the one I have, Shelly. I certainly don't remember my mother ever mentioning planting one, and besides, it looks like it just grew there and was not planted by anyone. It's right under a white oak tree and some birches. Gets quite a bit of shade, and I don't have the heart to cut down the oak or the birches, so there it will stay. I have to battle the briars that constantly grow in there. I would love to get rid of them. Thanks for the link, btw.
That hellebore shot is great! Ahhh, yes, good old Motel 6. I have stayed at many in my day. Memories.

Not a palas but when youve driven 10 hours its a mighty good place to rest your bones.
I like Motel 6 for roadtripping.
One year we drove to Oregon to visit son's family with my mom. We usually stayed at Motel 6 or Super 8. It got to be a joke though, cuz, we wouldn't realize it, but in the middle of the night we would hear train whistles. After a few nights, we would just wake up laughing, then try to fall back to sleep. Eventually we got smart and looked to see if there was a train track nearby. Now, if we ever travel, that's the first thing we look for - evidence of trains. Memories!
We usually stopped at a Cracker Barrel, cuz mom likes it. Needless to say, we had the menu memorized, so our stop time was reduced, cuz we knew just what we wanted. They have the best pecan pancakes.

the best part about this property is that the other homes are far and in summer as the trees leaf out I do not see a single house after living in toronto for 23 years I now appreciate my privacy

Oh pretty. I like the trail that goes along the tree line. Looks like a nice place for a walk any time of the year. Oh you have rocks too I see, at least they look like a useful size and it looks like you have some nice evergreens too. My lot is the same, in the summer can hardly see anyone. Two sides are bordered by conservation land that goes for 80 acres. Nice and private but with all those woods comes all those critters like Bambi and friends. Still I would not change it for houses all around and even with a lot of brush to thin out I bet you would not trade your new location either.
my lawn tractor is also a mulcher and I have the attachement that collects it into two big bins so it is easy or I mulch and leave it lol that is even easier
We have taken a motel 6 directory on road trips with us, and compare that to maps to see when and where we might stop for the night.

OMG Scicci - 25deg!!! that's way tooooo to cold. I sure hope that you're able to stay nice and comfy, and don't have to go anywhere. Those pictures are great. The first two are my fav's, but they're all really, good!
Good old Motel 6. Yep, I know what you mean Jan and Jo Ann. When I drove to tennessee in a whirlwind trip, we did motel six the whole way. I agree with Jo Ann. When you've been on the rd for 12+ hours a day, So long as it's clean and house a bed... it's just fine! Although I didn't have so much of the proplems with the train tracks being right next to the building. However, I suspect that's because we took Route 66 as much as possible. I would imagine that if you were taking a northern route across the country that their would be train tracks everywhere.

I posted this on the PNWest 'frsty things' thread as well, so it's the second time seeing it for some of you. The snow is coming back so it warmed up and melted the frost yesterday. I Prefer the frost!!

I agree... yep cold. Easy to convey that feeling when you just get "rays of light" through the trees instead of actual light. But, I'll take a ray of light anyday over anything else that that they sky produces.
Jo Ann, I agree... it looks odd as a thumbnail, I can't even tell what it is as a thumbnail. I took bunches similar to it and have been posting them in the "frosty things" thread that I linked over here a few days ago. It's been fun with several of the folks from here stopping in to share over there. You'd be proud Jo Ann I was up at around 4:30 this morning!

I guess what I ment was... around here, you really can't sleep with your windows open unless you only crack them and have dowls, or something tougher than a screen to get through. I do it sometimes because I'm pretty removed from things, but folks down in the valley don't.
I love the first really nice day, usually an odd day in late March when you can open the windows and let the fresh half winter and half spring air in to fill the house. Usually doesn't last long, but that day the air is so fresh and wonderful. Not an every day thing until around May like JoAnn says, but boy for those few hours, nice.
