Spring East Texas Round Up

Gilmer, TX

Thanks blkraven, either will be fine with me, you've seen them in person, so I'll leave the decision up to you. Pam

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Raven- I thought you were the one in CCMGA. When you are up this way for a meeting you can come by and get a load of plants from me. You might have success with these at the Plant sale coming up. Are you going to make the "pot-up" day on 3/12 ?
Think I would like a dragonfly stepping stone. We can talk at the next meeting.
David

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Dde Tex okay youve got me....you know who I am but I m not sure who you are....lol... yes I was at the last meeting and just taking everything in before I offer out my services (Smile) Im not sure about the pot up.. my energy only goes so far at times and Ive learned sometimes I have to be selfish with it which I hate to do. I will try to be there if I feel up to it.. My mom is here for a visit which means it can be anything from a few days or a month.. she has dementia so I cant leave her here at thre house so if shes here for the pot up Ill have to bring her. Im not sure if she'll start fussing while we are there or not she does love flowers though so maybe we can make it. Sometimes its easier not to do things when shes here.
Ill be at the next meeting if Keith sends me directions as to where it is..lol. being new to the area (2yrs) everyone else knows where stuff is .. Im like huh?? wheres that???
The dragon fly stone is on the list and we can discusss trading later.. Trading later gives me something to look forward to. Sorta like Im going to be getting Christmas several times but not at christmas know what I mean?
see you at the meeting
Kathleen

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Pam.. Ill have one of each for you to chose from hows that?? I can always use another one somewhere here at the house.. so you and david are on the list for stepping stones now..

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Kathleen, may I have a sun stepping stone? I have things germinating and growing up and am not sure just what will succeed. I will know closer to the RU date. Hope I can give you Christmas in May.

If you can't that will be fine. I understand your responsibilities. I take care of my grandbaby and mother. Sometimes my time is just taken all up. I would like to learn how to make stepping stones. Maybe we could talk about that at the RU. I love to make my own stuff if it's within my talents. I'm not good with saws and construction. But I can put stuff together.

David, what plant sale? The hot lips you gave me is going strong. I swear the confederate rose is going to bloom. Whats inside that big bud looks pink to me. The plants you gave my daughter are all doing good. Hoping the papyrus will come back in the spring.

I hope to have some brugs, red petunias, Texas star, pink surfinia, purple surfinia, echinacea, red origami columbine and maybe a few otherthings. Still too early to tell.

Gilmer, TX

Sounds great to me blkraven. Thanks!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Raven- I was the one that gave the talk on hollyhocks. I will send or Keith will send direction to the Forest Service place. We will talk then or later.
Tex- the Conf. rose is the pink, large blooms. This gets huge so plant it out when warmer. Mine are still dormant. Be sure to prune the Hot lips back a good bit. It will really take off then and give you a much fuller and nice plant. Most of the things your daughter got were perennials and should come back even larger.
I will have some of many of these type plants for the sale and also for the RU. I find it is just as easy to do 50 or so cuttings as it is to do a few. So I end up with large amounts of plants but I have lots of garden visitors that I enjoy giving my starts away.
The Plant sale is with the Master Gardeners. It is members grown plants, meaning not your typical things. We will have it 4/18 here in Jacksonville. There will be some goodies. When we get closer I will list the things we will have for sale. I know, my bad, sale date is same as SFA. grrrr
DD

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

David, Please do post the things for sale. I will come to that sale. Where will it be? We got a magnolia tree from the locals here last spring. It is doing very well. The hot lips is only 2 branches. Should I cut them back? They are putting on new growth.

I know the confederate rose gets big. I will be sure to give it plenty of space. The passion flower or maypop, is starting to come to life too. I expect great things from that vine.

I just got some triple yellow dat seeds from a generous dger. I am planting those this weekend. If they germinate and grow I will bring them to the RU too.

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

texas grower, I have you on my list list for a sun stepping stone .. if youd like to learn how to make them come on over to my place and we'll make some.. youre not far at all. its not hard at all you just have to have some patience

DdeTex.. Now I know who you are!!!!.. I thought it was you but wasnt sure.. Im so bad with names it takes me a few meetings to keep them straight. I do have you on my list and we will talk later.. please send me the directions cause I have no idea where Im going..lol.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Raven- We will talk at the next meeting which is at the Texas Forest Service. It is located on the loop. When you first get into Jacksonville on 69 there is a red light. This is the loop, go right (east) for less than a mile. It will be on your right next to the funeral home. Hope to see you there. If you want to come to the "poy-up" day at my house let me know and I will give directions to my house.
Tex- the MG sale will be on 69 next to Whataburger. Take a right at the 69-79 intersection. Since it is member grown plants, I do not yet know what folks will bring to sale. I will post when closer to the date. The yellow dat sound nice. Cut the hot lips back to about 6" or so. I hope to have this salvia gregii in red, white and more hot lips for the sale and RU.
D

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

David please do give us the time of the sale, I have been ill and can't see making SFA this year (although their plant list is WONDERFUL as always) and of course your sale is only 15 miles from me. I'd love to come.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

The sale starts around 8:00 ish and goes until we sell out- maybe 3:00 or so. I am an early bird so I will start unloading at day light depending on how many truck loads I have to make. Some of the "good" stuff goes fast. This is our fund raiser for the year so most members have lots of nice plants to sell.
Hope you can make it. Also the folks going to SFA that are passing through need to stop and see us.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Hi! It's me again. Came over to see whats new in E TEX and found all you wonderful guys.
I do not plan on coming this year. My health is just too bad to make plans. But the date is marked on my calender and i may show up to meet you all. If some plants show up with me that'll be good. I disappointed people who were expecting plants last year and i apologise.
I've a question from my SIL in Kilgore. He loves cream field peas and Brookshires in Kilgore has just stopped selling the frozen or canned cream peas. Do any of you know anyplace still selling them? Also know anyone with cream pea seed for sale? He thanks you.
cocoa_lulu, you've got mail. Hope i did'nt disrupt the thread too much
Thanks again,
Vickie

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Vickie, Texas means friendship, so welcome to our thread. I hope you get to join us. I am sorry you are feeling so bad. I do pray you get better.

Kathleen, thanks so much for the stone. Where is Wells? I mught just take you up on that offer to learn how to make the stones.

David, I will trim little miss hot lips back 6" then. I will probably be one of the first ones at your sale. I'm looking forward to it. Do you think the triple yellow dat would do good under a white brug?

Karen, God answered my prayers for you. I asked Him to give the Dr wisdom and get to the bottom of the problem. I am thankful for the answer. Now maybe you can get on with your life.

Gotta run, the grandbaby has a dirty diaper. One of the many joys of my day. :)

Dallas, TX

OOOKKK... so tell me where Jacksonville is? Is that where Charlene lives? I really have all the coops confused. Would you believe Sarah in the Epi forum told me about Arlington? lol

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sylvia,
Jacksonville is about 30 min south of Tyler on Hwy 69. you can take I20 to Tyler and then go around the loop to Hwy 69S. Loves Lookout is on the North side of Jacksonville on the left as you get into town.

tracie

Dallas, TX

omg ... I will need to follow someone, I never been any farther than Waxahachee. lol

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

The way I like to go from Dallas to Jacksonville is a bit different. Less traffic, good roads and faster than the loop in Tyler.
Take Hwy. 175 from Dallas towards Kaufman. Continue on to Athens, in Athens take loop to left and follow until you see the Jacksonville sign take left. Again on 175 go to Frankston and on into J'ville. In Jacksonville 175 will intersect Hwy. 69. Take left on 69 north, about 1 mile on right will be Love's Lookout.
This is about 2 hours from the I-20 and 175 exit. Not a bad drive at all.
DD

Dallas, TX

I'll use your instructions DD ... Thanks

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

So glad you're coming to our RU Sylvia! I've always wanted to meet you. See you there!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You better dmail Sylvia your cell phone number DD, she gets lost real easy!! LOL!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Hello neighbors. I will be flying down and joining up with Beck and coming to the RU. So put me on the head count please, but I will not be trading. Don't think the airlines would take all those plants. So, I'll just drool. It will be nice to see everyone! We may have some others from other states joining us, but are still working out those details. See you in May. Peg

Gilmer, TX

Peg, We'll be trading other things besides plants, so you never know what you may be going home with from this little get together.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Anyone that needs my cell number, just Dmail me and I will send it out to you.
Peg- you could always get the flat rate Priority box and mail it to yourself. There are always some must have's that you cannot pass up.
DD

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

And then there are seeds!!!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Exactly, you can carry seeds with you Peg. It will be good to see you. I will put some on my list.
Josephine.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL... Peg... see there all kinds of ways to skin a cat... If it were me... I'd have to mail my clothes home...have to keep the babies with me!!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

We can always mail you plants...as well!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

David, the confederate rose opened and it is a fluffy white. It is full of buds. I can't wait to put it in it's permanent home and watch it grow.

Thanks for this beauty, Jeanne

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

I've not done so before, but I'd like to participate also.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Well redrahde, you're so close, it would be disgraceful if you didn't come. Please do.

David, the confederate rose has blushed. Must have been something I said. Now it's a pretty pink.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)
